I'm happy I was able to upgrade from a Ryzen 7 1700 to a Ryzen 9 3900X, but the rest of the experience has been middling at best to be quite honest, and I'll admit I leaned into the "future proof"-ness of AM4 too hard and arguably deluded myself a bit into buying a top-tier board under the assumption of better support when that hasn't ever really been the case (though there were very few options on the market at the time when Ryzen first released). Let it not be forgotten that the same "Promontory" silicon serves as the underpinning of both the 300 and 400 series chipsets - cutting AGESA v2 support on 300 series chipsets was and still is purely a business decision. If you're okay with tinkering and questionable long term stability, consider looking into cross-flashing. It's a very imperfect process, but it can get you some level of ReBAR/Zen 3 functionality.

The Ryzen 9 3900X was priced so favourably as compared to it Intel "equivalent", the i9 9900k, that I went AMD for the first time ever. Well, I am not disappointed at all. My system runs incredibly smooth and stable and I am also someone who always has multiple applications running while I game -with no issues whatsoever. I'm not sure how any benchmarks relate to my experience but all I can say is that I am an extremely happy AMD client now.

I have it paired with my Ryzen 9 3900X. In Windows at 1440p it plays everything flawlessly. Haven’t tried ray tracing yet. MechWarrior 5, Fallout 4; Civ 5/6, Mass Effect remaster, Minecraft, it all works.
