The Pelonis Silent Turbo gives the typical pedestal fan model some modern improvements. It includes 12 speeds and a full range of settings, allowing precise control of your home environment to your liking. You can use the dial on the remote to find the speed you want quickly with the touch of your finger. It also recalls the prior setting you used after it has been powered down and unplugged for a short while. It has a timer, which is quite handy. The Silent Turbo's height can be adjusted, climbing to a remarkable 54" elevation, and it has the added bonus of being one of the quietest models we tested. Unless you are directly beside the fan, the Silent mode is very difficult to notice. The base is weighted, making this pedestal highly stable among the options in our testing. 
Even though the Silent Turbo doesn't make a lot of noise while it is in use, we were somewhat off-put by the annoying loud beeps that occur during switching of settings and button pushes. The different modes don't always offer too much of a change when applied and can come off as somewhat "gimmicky," also needing a few seconds time to produce a different speed once it was changed.  Despite its 12 speeds, the Silent Turbo isn't the most powerful model we tested &mdash; even in its own category of relatively low-power pedestal units &mdash; let alone in comparison with some seriously high-velocity floor and window models. But we still appreciate the convenient options and features and low operating volume of this air mover &mdash; especially for sleeping through the night.

Need a pedestal fan with lots of options and a fully functional range of speeds? Our favorite model is the PELONIS Silent Turbo. This fan has 12 different speeds so you can achieve the ideal airflow for your needs. Stretching just over 54" high, it's one of the tallest fans we tested and also the quietest &mdash; barely audible when on its "silent" mode. It has 3 additional modes, including "sleep" which gradually slows down over several hours, and "natural" which has variable speeds to blend more organically into the background. Additionally, you can set it to turn off after 30 minutes, 12 hours, or anything in between. The handy remote comes with a battery, and the lights power off after a few seconds, making it ideal for nighttime bedroom use. Unlike many others, it also remembers your last settings when you turn it back on, so no need to fight through all 12 speeds every time you want to use it. A heavy base aids with stability, too. 
Although the Silent Turbo is one of the quieter fans, it beeps rather loudly every time you change a setting. This is not exactly ideal when attempting to operate the fan in a quiet bedroom. A couple of the modes seem very similar, and it took several seconds to settle into the correct speed when changing a setting. Additionally, this is not the most powerful fan we tested. Despite having 12 different speed settings, the highest rate of airflow measured at just 10.5 mph, which is below average for this group of contenders. With all that in mind, we highly enjoy the convenience and less intrusive noise you get with this model.

The Honeywell Double Blade 16 is a standard pedestal fan with enough upgrades to make it a solid fan and a solid value, too. With normal, constant breeze, and variable breeze modes, this three-speed, remote-controlled fan has plenty of options to help you find something comfortable for you. A timer adds another extra touch of usability, and for those of you who appreciate powerful speeds on every setting, the Honeywell is sure to please. We measured its highest power at 12.7 mph, which is significantly above average for this group. It tilts both up and slightly down and has quieter beeps that are less obnoxious than many.
However, there's no option to turn those beeps off. The Double Blade also won't recall your last settings when turned off and defaults to the lowest speed when powered on, without oscillation. It's not a quiet fan, either, particularly on the highest settings, which makes it difficult to watch TV over without turning up the volume. And while the operation lights on the front will dim after several seconds, if you're particularly sensitive to lights in the bedroom, you may end up covering the front of this one. Overall, however, we found this to be a useful fan with a fair range of features and good power for less money than many others, making it a great value option.

It's not particularly quiet either &mdash; especially at high speeds &mdash; making it more challenging to watch TV without cranking up the volume. Ready to feel impressive winds from across the room? The Lasko 18" Cyclone is a powerful fan that spreads air effectively around even larger rooms. This oversized option creates a veritable buffeting wind on higher speeds, just like its name implies. It's fairly lightweight and offers an exceptional range in height, from 42 to 54 inches &mdash; the most of any model we tested. While most remote-controlled fans beep with every button push, the Lasko stays silent. It remembers your last settings when turned on each time and can be helpfully positioned anywhere from slightly downward to nearly vertical. On top of that, it comes with a small Velcro patch for the remote that you can stick just about anywhere &mdash; like on your bedpost or nightstand &mdash; to keep it close by. 
Though the Lasko Cyclone does have a timer, it only goes up to 4 hours, which may not be enough for some folks. It has a push-pull tab on the motor to control oscillation, rather than including that on the remote like many others. The super-wide, 21-inch circular base takes up a significant amount of room and slides readily across hardwood floors. As a light, plastic unit, ours bounced and vibrated at every speed &mdash; not audibly, but visibly. Unfortunately, the lights on the base also don't dim or turn off, and this is one of the loudest, highest-pitched fans of the bunch, making it not a great option for picky sleepers or for use when watching movies. Though, if you're a fan of white noise and a powerful breeze, you may just love this big unit exactly as it is.

The Lasko S16612 with Thermostat offers surprisingly convenient functionality beyond its optional thermostat functionality &mdash; which we love. Eliminating the need for a smart plug, the built-in thermostat allows you to set your desired temperature from 60-80 degrees &#40;in 5-deg-ree increments&#41;, which automatically turns the fan off when the set ambient temperature is reached and back on when temperatures rise. This fan emits a lower pitched hum that more easily fades into the background than many other models' higher-pitched whirring noises. We almost couldn't hear it amongst all the other noises in the house at its lowest speed. The remote is both simple and fully functional, controlling every aspect of this fan &mdash; including oscillation &mdash; with a beep-less push of a button. Though lightweight, this model is also more stable and less wobbly than most.
However, the lightweight plastic disc base lacks any feet to hold it in place on a hard floor. While we don't think this is a huge problem, if your furniture gets frequently bumped into by children or pets &#40;or adults!&#41;, the Lasko S16612 will slide. And, if you have a giant living space and are hoping to place a fan across the room that can still reach you with a powerful breeze on the couch, this one may disappoint you with its below-average wind speeds. If you plan to carry it around your home, we also found that it sometimes comes apart mid-transit &mdash; though it simply slides back together again easily. At the end of the day, if you want a fan to help keep your area at a more consistent temperature, the functionality and simplicity of this fan are here to help.
