 The antenna flop is just a really good way to show you the cheapness. But yeah, this one just feels a lot better. And for something that I'm deploying outdoors, well, I want kind of higher quality stuff for something that I'm deploying in a home. I need a design that's not this

 Everything just worked. And I was even able to follow some unified tutorials step by step in Ohmata. And they worked just fine. I mean, they copied the entire interface even down to the little side settings menu where you adjust the individual device parameters, such as the access point radios, VLANs and all that stuff

 In terms of overall performance, I'll have some more videos coming out here in the near future about the performance of the access points and the switches and we'll go more in depth and, you know, really focus on the features and stuff of these things. But just overall, I have no complaints about the stuff's performance. This access point is a freaking monster and outperforms the U6LR. So it really comes down to the design sacrifices that they had to make in order to meet this price point with the fact that they're a new platform

 So really, TP link, you guys are there on the software level. You guys are there on the hardware performance level. I would love to see you guys up the actual like industrial design, because that's really the only place that you're not competitive right now. This doesn't come close to this

 I could only get about 300 to 400 MB/s from ER2706 vs close to my actual gigabit connection that comes from one of my ISPs. My second internet account is a business account which has a much faster ping (1 ms) or less latency and 600 MB/s download speed, compare to the Spectrum 1 GB/s line with 20ms ping. So with the ER605 I could take advantage of much faster ping like my business line while reaching out to the close to maximum download speed of the faster internet with almost 800 to 850MB/s outcome when merging the two lines. This was obviously the big deal for me and I was surprised to see such outcome from the cheeper device but that was exactly the main reason I bought them both to compare

 The older one is different in the design when you compare the two together. The newer ER605 is the one with more RAM and faster CPU and it's the one I purchased for comparison. The best sign to know the difference between the two is the USB WAN port available on the newer ER605. Now after testing the response time and speed measurements between the two, newer ER605 and ER2706, the two different transmission scenarios on load balancing and link backup with exact the same configuration on web filtering and firewall options, it turns out that the cheaper but newer ER605 with the 4 cores CPU has a mush faster response time as well as much faster internet speed and bandwidth when you set them up for WAN aggregation and the difference with my internet configuration were huge

 I COULD just run this on one of the multitudes of Raspberry Pi units that I have lying around, but like the nerd that I am, I like to have matching hardware.  RMA is being processed now, will update review if the performance changes.

A Very Positive Addition to My Home Network

 To avoid headaches, I say suck it up and buy this thing.  Only downside is that before this I ran the Omada software on windows and on a raspberry pi 3 running raspian and it wasn't great. The raspberry pi especially would constantly lock up. I have a beefier server I could run a container on, but based on the Rpi3 experience I'm happy I just bought this device and can call it a day

 Hey, what's going on everybody? So today I'm going to show you how to set up a Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X from scratch for use with your home network. So first off, the EdgeRouter X is not like your typical home router that you would buy from Walmart or Target or whatever. You can't just bring it home, plug it into your modem and then your desktop and everything. Be good to go right out of the box

 Please don't plug anything emitting power into 1, 2, or 3. It'll probably mess it up. I haven't tried it. I don't want to gamble with my money

 It's just not plug and play. So first off, the router I'm going to use in this video is just the regular EdgeRouter X, not the SFP version. So if you don't know the difference between the regular 5-port EdgeRouter X and the 6-port EdgeRouter X SFP, the regular EdgeRouter X only has the copper ports and it is only able to accept power over ethernet and pass it through. It doesn't create it itself

 So let's just go back to the main page, which is the dashboard tab. And let's also open up another website just to see if the internet is working. Let's go to walmart.com

Edgerouter X First Time Setup

I'm using a Ubiquiti Edge Router X w/ Smart QoS and it's a plug 'n play solution if you don't want to deal with a more of a technical fix.

I've been having issues with my internet with xfinity for a while. I have 100/5 right now for 35$ and when my wife for example joins a zoom call that does about 3MB/s up and down at the same time while i'm playing - lets say Rocket League, it throws it off SO bad. I legitimately have to be connected directly to a modem because you'd think being on ethernet is good and all until someone else decides to use the internet.

Another instance is I get random desync while gaming on other games (DayZ) where I would be playing with a buddy, pinging the server on cmd would be fine but the latency is just through the roof. I am unable to decipher the root of the cause.

Why does even a little bit of uploading eat my gaming performance?

 A reboot fixed that. But a couple of days later, it hung for good. The router booted, but wouldn't hand out IP addresses and you couldn't ping it. Reboots and then a factory reset didn't fix it either

 Somewhere in between a consumer router and "to complex for the average joe" IT admin wanna be. It does some pretty good deep packet inspection and the NAT/Firewall rules are flexible enough that you can do your own hairpin NATs - or just the builtin port forwarding feature. It gives you quite a bit of traffic flow info to track the NAT/Firewall rules. It's a bit more in depth on the GUI but still has the ease of use that you get in a consumer grade router GUI

I'd give this a 2 star rating if it wasn't for my experience with Ubiquiti products. This router keep freezing the GUI (cleared by clicking the reload button) and the router itself hung on me the first week (no routing, couldn't ping it). A reboot fixed that. But a couple of days later, it hung for good

 I have enough faith in Ubiquity products that I just sent it back and ordered another one. I've been running their radio panels for several years now and they just work - period. No reboots, etc. Set and forget

I've always liked the Ubiquiti stuff - at home, I use their AP's (and have for businesses in the past) and used to use a USG-3.  However, when connection speeds increased, the USG-3 was not cutting it - Smart Queues (fq_codel) was simply not able to keep up (I have a 350mbps symmetrical FTTH connection). I sold it, and much to my dismay, continued to use my ISP-provided modem.  Fast-forward to today - I just moved (same ISP) but the router they provided me has a lot of bufferbloat - 90ms+ when downloading

 So, due to Ubiquiti's lack of a suitable offering in the range I'm willing to spend, I buy the ER-4.  Overall, this thing is great - I've never used an EdgeMAX product, but I setup UNMS and I'm happy with it. Overall, it just works - a great device. Setup was a breeze

 I sold it, and much to my dismay, continued to use my ISP-provided modem.  Fast-forward to today - I just moved (same ISP) but the router they provided me has a lot of bufferbloat - 90ms+ when downloading. So, due to Ubiquiti's lack of a suitable offering in the range I'm willing to spend, I buy the ER-4.  Overall, this thing is great - I've never used an EdgeMAX product, but I setup UNMS and I'm happy with it

 I can get it to work, but the limit on mine seems to be around ~300mbps of actual throughput - a sizable hit, and not one I'm willing to make.  The next thing I want to do is setup an OpenVPN connection, to use over a VLAN, to my lab network. This, while it works, simply is a pain in the ass - I personally don't know why I didn't test this more, but I hate having to manage VPN functionality that fully exists in the CLI. It's lazy

A great box if it fits your needs

 The "wizards" don't reflect current configuration, and they all have the same UI (and silently ignore things they don't want to pay attention to, so you'll think you've set things up when you, in fact, haven't). Also, the wizards do only very minimal setup---you have to drop down into the utterly non-intuitive CLI to do anything useful. The router is lightning fast, though. Has no problem handling GBit fiber

1 ???  April 1 observation, of ER-4, using firmware version 1.10.9: This router performs well, as an IPSec VPN endpoint. But it goes into never never land if the power goes out and back on
