I'm looking for recommendations on backpacks that would be good for family day hikes in hot/humid weather (and in cooler weather). I really want something useful that doesn't result in an immediately sweaty back!

The stuff sack that comes with the sleeping bag (I have the regular size) is pretty useless when needing to save space for backpacking. It creates kind of a sphere and doesn't compress the sleeping bag as much as it can be compressed. With the regular stuff sack, coldest weather configuration, it will not fit into the lower department of my 70L Deuter backpack, even though there is ample space in there for a sleeping bag and a pad. This pack has worked out great! I wanted something smaller than the RUSH24 (I’ve had that pack for years) to build a pack for indefinite sustainment. A larger pack makes it easy to overfill with stuff you don’t really “need”, and that translates to more weight. My goal was a pack that equaled 10% of my body weight (or 18lbs). I loved the concept of this bag. How great ! 3 bags in one. Unfortunately the zipper situation is a bit out of control. When in 5° mode the are 2 zippers to go through before you get out for your mid-night relief

One other draw back is the zippers are operated with that pull cord which sucks, because the pull cord on one of my zippers broke. So now im gonna have to use a shoe lace or zip tie to fix the problem. That is litterally the only ounce of damage to this pack though, and ive been using it pretty harshly for about 2 years now.

I recently got this bag for a weekend backpacking trip in the NC mountains. Temperature got down to about 15 degrees F and I was nice and warm with the 5 degree set up. I am a hot sleeper so I was worried than the 5 degree would be too much but it was fine and I did not sweat. The only reason I am giving this 4 stars instead of 5 is that the zippers get stuck very easily so I am a little worried about the long term durability of the lining

I have noticed that they are already showing some wear marks. Again nothing major, as I do carry 45lbs of weight and use the pack to go on 5-6 mile rucks almost daily as well a few extended 10-12 mile rucks on a few weekends. Total time with the pack on per week is probably somewhere around 15-20 hours. Overall a great pack so far

I especially like the multiple secure pockets for devices. The color is great and the storage pocket is a nice touch that doesn't get in the way when I'm not using it. It's held up really well over the last few months of using it on a daily basis.

So if you get caught in some rain, i'd worry about water, starting to seep in here: there's no aqua guard or rain flap, but still nice. You can reach ...

Phenomenal backpack! Shoe compartment holds an extra pair (W US 10.5) for travel, lunch bag for work commute. Very roomy, efficient use of pockets for additional storage. Lightweight and comfortable to wear

It makes the pack wonky and it won't set down well unless it's SUPER packed. If it's super packed, it bulges upward into the main compartment and cuts the room in that part down so much you can barely fit anything in it. I bought it for my carry-on for a trip to Europe and ended up not using it because it was awkward and didn't hold much at all. Now I am stuck with it since it's been a tad over the 60 days and NF won't take it back

Another nice feature is the drainage holes at the bottom. If the water bladder springs a leak the water can quickly drain out the bottom before soaking the entire pack (it's happened to me before during hikes or MTB rides, I crashed once on the MTB and sprung a leak). I do have a couple suggestions for improvement: 1) I hike in the mountains and hills of Japan when I visit the country and I would like to use this pack as a carry on item with my notebook PC. The pocket in the main compartment is wide enough for most notebook PC but it could be better
