Why the Tern BYB Folding Bike?

 I purchased the Tern BYB in the beginning of 2020.

 At the time, I was a bike shop owner and had a lot of plans to travel in 2020 for professional

 This is something I purchased long before being a Tern employee.

 I purchased it with a few things in mind.

 The first being, it packs down in that super small, compact setup with no tools required.

 But as a bike mechanic, the last thing I want to do on a vacation or a trip is to deal with

 And the BYB packs up super small in that Airporter slim, that piece of luggage that you saw me

 I personally checked it with Southwest without any baggage fees.

 The second reason I picked up the BYB was because it fits all the adults in my family.

 So if I go on a family vacation, it's really rare that my wife and I get to go on bike

 rides together because we have two young kids.

 And this is a bike that fits both of us.

 So I can ride it, she can ride it, my in-laws can ride it, and it's just there ready whenever

 And then the third thing is, it makes it so I don't have to rent a bike or deal with the

 I use a little front Kanga rack that attaches without any tools required.

 for my phone, just snaps in and then I can use this for navigation using Ride with GPS

 Before I set out, I set a route up on Ride with GPS on what looked like low stress routes.

 I had that loaded up on my phone and it was locked in my handlebar and I could just ride,

 enjoy when it was around me and my phone would tell me when I had to turn, much like your

 So I loved bringing my bike, low stress, it was something easy for me to deal with, especially

 because I wanted to focus on my family and my small children and the bike was just there

 when I had the opportunity to go for a ride.

 So what I have here is the Ling D8 folding bike here, which is a regular folding bike. And then I have the BYB folding bike here. They both are 8 speed. So we're going to do a comparison between the two

 So what you really want to do, remove the kickstand and just basically bring it together. And then also folding your handle post right here. And you can see there's a connector right there, and then you can just join it in there and then it snap it together. Then the next step is to pull out your folding bike in a vertical position and then dropping your handlebar here

Tern BYB Overview - Folding Bike | Calgary, Alberta | Edmonton

 Hi, welcome to Power Motion YouTube channel.

 Today in this video, we're going to talk about Tern BYB folding bike.

 So the BYB acronym stands for Bring Your Own Bike.

 Now what is so special about this particular bike is Tern has spent almost four years to

 What they want to do is come up with a brand new design that is unlike any other design

 So what they have done is instead of a two folding joint, they actually make three folding

 joints, two on the main frame and then one on the handle post.

 So as a result, you can make a very tight or compact folding bike in a 20 inch style.

 So one other thing about this particular bike is they definitely spent a lot of engineering

 And compared to a regular 20 inch folding bike, this one is actually 30% smaller.

 So in this video, I'm going to pull it over to show you the spec of this bike, as well

 as doing a comparison between the regular 20 inch folding bike and compared to the BYB

 There are basically two models on the BYB.

 There's a P8 and then there's an S11, which means that it either have an 8 speed or 11

 So let's get into the spec of this bike here.

 So on the top, I have the ergonomic handle grip.

 It has a trigger shifter here, which is a Shimano Clara shifter in here.

 And then you also have the famous Android 2 stem, which allows you to adjust the handle

 I think it's aluminum fork and almost like a blade fork.

 So basically it has to give you a slightly better aerodynamic.

 And then on the tire, you have a Shore Bay Citizen Tire.
