Plus, depending on where you live, this could be the worst time of year to be testing a tent.  I live near Houston, and with all of the rain and humidity we are getting, any tent is just a good way to condense water and collect it.

What have I done? Any advice welcome on this condensation catcher I just bought?

 I bought a six moon designs. I'M reading this 124 centimeter or 49 inch carbon fiber pole, and if you watched my hike uh to foster brook, i pointed it out in that video specifically uh be, and i explained that this is why i i bought the carbon fiber pool. What does it add? It adds 51 grams to my gear, loadout, that's 1.8 ounces and it folds to 44, centimeters or 17 and a half inches fits easily in your backpack um, all right back to the aeon lithium from tarp tint, the aeon lithium is 490 grams or 17

 Take you around the back and show you one more thing and i'll give you a little tour of some of the technology. That'S in this tent. Obviously, it's a single person dyneema composite fiber. This is where your other tent pole goes, and you can see that just try to get this in the ground here

 What i like about this is the tarp kit includes six easton, very lightweight tent pegs. They come with the tent, so the weight of the tent includes the tent pegs. When you look at it all um gon na watch that online right, i tend to use carbon fiber from z, packs uh. These are 6

Tarptent Aeon Li - A "Non" Review

White out fog and rain, probably in the 50s, overall huge bummer of a last day. I’d been really looking forward to the Kendall Katwalk and all I saw was white and I was soaked by the mist and rain. At least it was a quick downhill jaunt into town where my ride was waiting. 

 I met several people who started at Steheken, which was my backup plan. From Snoqualmie there are shuttles to Seattle but I had family pick me up. 

Incredible views of Escondido Ridge, Summit Chief and some nice glaciers. Went through some bigger burn patches but overall nice trail. Was hoping to stay at Spectacle Lake for one last swim but as the afternoon wore on temperatures dropped and a cloud rolled in. Decided to head to Park Lakes instead for a faster hike to Snoqualmie the following day

 Beautiful day, sunny with a nice downhill walk the whole way. Checked out the new pedestrian bridge they put up over Bridge Creek – solid work. Got to North Fork around 6 after taking a few side trips and stopping to chat. We both put up our little UL shelters and talked gear and I tried her 1/8" pad

Get some z-packs vertice rain pants. They are less than 3oz and they will block wind and bugs when needed. 

Overall, you can hike with what you have right now, and you’d be fine. You’ve obviously dialed in your kit (other than your clothes), so you can drop stuff as you go.

Ditch your camp shirt. Either use your hiking shirt (true UL) or incorporate a long sleeve insulating layer, like 150 merino wool, as a sleep system or hiking system item.

How tall are you? You should replace your tent and buy a DCF tent that pairs with your trekking pole or poles. If you’re 6’4”, get a tarp tent Aeon Li. If you’re less than that, get a z-packs duplex, tarp tent double rainbow, or something else. 

**Location/temp range/specific trip description:**

PCT starting May 10th at Campo. Heading NOBO to the Canadian boarder.

**Goal Baseweight (BPW):**

I don't really have one, just looking to cut down as much weight as possible within my price range.

**Budget:**

$1500. Ideally I'd like to be well under this budget but I understand that quality lightweight gear is often expensive.

**Non-negotiable Items:**

A stove for warm meals

**Solo or with another person?**

**Clothing Options:**

I still need to buy most of my clothing for this trip. I'd appreciate some budget friendly options for all of my clothes but especially the following:

* I've heard that some people have durability issues with the CNOC Vecto 2L, I've used it on a few short trips and it has worked great but I'd appreciate feedback from someone with more experience.
* For backpacks I'm debating between the Osprey Exos 48 and the Osprey Levity 45. I've used an Osprey backpack for a long time and have loved their fit and warranty. I'm open to non-Osprey suggestions though.
* I'm going to use a long sleeve hiking shirt in the desert for sun protection but I'm not sure about how to best protect my legs. Wind pants maybe?
* This is my first thru hike and I'd appreciate any advice you can give me.

2021 PCT Shakedown Request

 So it's a little-bitty feature, but it is so much nicer just to be able to roll that door back and slap the magnet into place. Now I kind of wish that they would have done that going all the way down the door. So another thing that tarp tent added to their storm door was something that I'm honestly not a big fan of, and that is velcro now, with these tension, tents and those vestibule doors. Typically, they lay over top of each other and they stay there because of the tension on the front

 I'M used to using that z, packs vestibule, there's storm doors, how it closes, how it functions, and one thing that I really like that tarp tent did with this. Is something that I kind of thought was a gimmick in the beginning, and that is the fact that they used magnets, for there were door closures now, if you've ever woke up in the middle of the night, and you've tried to close your storm doors, because the Wind was getting bad or because you knew it was gon na rain and you've had to mess with those little toggles or those little dongles or whatever. You want to call them and the little loop system to roll the door back. They are a pain when you're half awake or whenever it's freezing cold and your hands are numb well, what tarp, tent decided to do was add magnets to the little closures

 The stitching's great the quality is phenomenal and I think something that tarp 10 has really become known for over the years. Is all those little attentions to detail like those magnetic doors like those side, vents and typically I'm not a person that likes bells and whistles on a tent? But I feel like tarp tent is really trying to fix some of those common problems that all of us have with single wall, tents, so yeah, I'm really looking forward to trying this over the next year. **Goal Baseweight (BPW):** Lighter the better... Less than 14 for sure and ideally less than 12 lbs

**Budget:** Around 2 - 300. Rather soft numbers though

**Non-negotiable Items:** I like the pocket rocket over the BRS stove and do not want to get my soul crushed by cold soaking. Week long trip? Sure! Months? Hard pass.

I definitely like my pad and wouldn't want to switch it up (stomach / side sleeper).

**Solo or with another person?:** Predominantly solo

**Additional Information:** I'm just looking to get my stuff shook down one more time before I go out. I feel as though I should be fine but many eyes are better than two. I'm departing first of July (as that is when my work assignment / contract runs up). I'm very much excited to spend time in the wilderness and see the full majesty of the rocky mountains along with getting a work out trying to run past the basin.

I noticed that one of the heaviest pieces of my kit is tent. I've used it for a few years and while I think it would suffice for this kind of trek; it is heavy. I've been looking into getting something from six moons designs, switching to tarp + bivy, or buying one from the rei sale. But this would eat up most of my budget, but if it's worth it it's worth it. I'm not opposed to trekking poles or trekking pole tents at all

My down jacket from uniqlo is kinda trash (what a shock). It feels very warm, but I have noticed that fragments of feathers are leaking from it occasionally. As someone who has camped in the Colorado Rockies many times I know how cold it can get. So I'm thinking of upgrading this too (probably will regardless since I don't want to have a featherless feather jacket when I get below freezing). I'm debating on adding a sun hoody or a fleece or both for parts of this trek.

Not sure If I will bring my camera tbh. My phone's camera is trash and I feel like it's something that I would like to have had after it all. The ultralight answer is no... but still on the fence.

 I've already got it set up so I'm going to take it down, put it back in its stuff stack, show you what that looks like, and then we're going to actually set it up and talk about specs and all that good stuff that you want to know. Okay, so let's get it taken down, see how fast we can go. [music] So [Music] Okay, there you have it. That maybe took two minutes, three minutes the most

 Okay, so when you get your pro trail li from tarp tent in the mail essentially it comes with the tent and it comes with some complimentary patch material and a little zip lock that says it's always free if you need more, just ass which I think is pretty cool. And then when you open up the stuff sack comes with, um, really, kind of like a how-to booklet that directs you to find their instructional video on the internet. And then it comes with four ultra light tent stakes and then obviously the tent. So let's actually get it set up this time and we'll show you how fast we can do it

 When you get this in the mail, it's stuffed by the manufacturers. they are the pros so that was just a really quick job of me folding up the tent, putting it in its stuff sack and it comes out to measuring just about 15 inches if you guys can see that and it weighs hardly nothing. TARPTENT PROTRAIL LI | FIRST IMPRESSION AND REVIEW | ONE OF THE BEST ULTRALIGHT BACKPACKING TENTS?

 put it in the ground. So now you're going to come around to the head end. You're going to unzip the vestibule just a little bit so that you can stick the trekking pole in and there is a cap and grommet here. You have to make for sure that your point is in there where you could damage your chuck or your tent so you have to make for sure

 Vestibule is plenty big enough. My bag everything fits so you got plenty of room. Vestibule is plenty big. My whole pack sits in it, but no issue

 It comes in very big. You've got plenty of room for however you decide to roll it up. first, I'm going to get out my polypro. It does have a real thick bottom, but a piece of polycryl is so cheap and so lightweight and just a little bit extra protection

 You're going to unzip the vestibule just a little bit so that you can stick the trekking pole in and there is a cap and grommet here. You have to make for sure that your point is in there where you could damage your chuck or your tent so you have to make for sure. You also want to pull it straight as you can with the tailwind so you'll insert through the bottom. Make sure you get inside that, pull it tight and then you're gonna come down here and pull out the guy off this corner here

ConstructionThe Tarptent ProTrail Li fly is made with a spruce green 0.51 oz/yd-2 Dyneema DCF, while the grey floor is made with 1 oz/yd-2 Dyneema DCF. The fly is strong enough for use in protected campsites without high wind, while the floor is thick enough for use without a footprint if you’re sleeping on top of forest duff and not on sand or more abrasive surfaces. If you do manage to wear a hole in the floor, Dyneema DCF is very easy to repair with a patch (supplied free from Tarptent) or tape

 The primary advantage of using Dyneema DCF, besides its 38% weight savings over silnylon, is that it doesn’t sag at night or when it gets wet. For example, when I’ve used the silnylon version of the Tarptent ProTrail, I’ve found it necessary to guy out the center of the sidewalls to counteract sagging in wet weather. That’s not needed at all with the ProTrail Li sidewalls which stay drumhead tight all night and/or when it rains. The ProTrail Li also does not require seam-sealing like Tarptent’s silnylon tents and dries very quickly when exposed to sunlight after a night of rain
