Other than the menu I have not been able to reproduce the sound I got from my previous Onkyo.. but I am still working on that.

 So forgive me, forget and let's move on. So if we take a look at the back of the receiver, we'll see that up top we have a USB power supply followed by four HDCP 2.2 compatible HDMI inputs and one ARC HDMI output. Along the bottom from left to right we have a coaxial and optical input, the FM antenna connection, four analog audio inputs for any RCA cabled devices, two sub outputs and your five channel speaker connections

 All I need is something that can push 5.1 and push it well enough so that I can be fully immersed when I game. So without any further ado, let's go ahead and get into the video and see what I chose. The Sony STR-DH590 is a 5

 Now hit the home button on the remote and go to the easy setup tab in the middle. Click that. Then click English or whatever language you prefer. Click start and proceed through a couple of screens

 As a side note, if you're going to be using 4K HDR, using proper HDMI cables is a must. I highly recommend these affordable Rocketfish cables, the link can be found in the description below. Now let's get into the setup because I'm extremely eager to test and start gaming. We'll start by plugging in the calibration mic to get my level set

The BEST 4K HDR Home Theater Receiver UNDER $200! - Sony STR-DH590 Review

 This was one I bought for myself and then graduated to a different unit and it's been setting in my to be filmed, to be listed on eBay pile for a couple of months now. Finally getting around to it. It is a STR-DH590 which is a still sold, still for sale model from Sony. It does have Bluetooth

 I have it hooked up to a pair of very small bookshelf definitive speakers. Every speaker set that I hooked this to sounded very, very good. The speakers that were in the room where this was, ironically I had a budget Sony hooked to these, were Cornwalls and those Cornwalls sounded absolutely wonderful hooked to this Sony. That's why I left it alone as long as I did

 You know, it's not, dare I say, I say Macintosh. It's not a Macintosh. So some of my other receivers that we have around the house, you know, they're running way way lower distortion rate and it's not a bad distortion rate, it's just not the best. So anyways, is it a good budget receiver? Well, let's look

Sony STR-DH590 Multi-Channel AV Receiver - Is this one of the best modern budget receiver?

 We have a calibration microphone basically you set this at your head height in your seat and the receiver will play a bunch of sounds through your surround sound speakers all five going around you and it'll measure the sound and determine the best way to set them up with the power and such to give you the best surround sound experience. Controller it's pretty simple if I don't hold it upside down that'd be great you got your power these white buttons all your inputs then you got Bluetooth pairing music movie and two-channel multi speaker settings so you can just run a sync regular two channel for say listen to your vinyls moving music there's different presets I believe. PureDirect surround sound night mode and dimmer I don't know what those do but dimmer changes the brightness of the screen I'll show you that in a bit display amp menu I mess around with this this is where you can do all of your EQ settings you can change the how many decibels your speakers are all playing at back options regular four-way controller if an ok in the middle home I've never used that I didn't use this controller much volume mute pause tuning forward and backwards and then fast forward and rewind I guess if you're using your Bluetooth stop and then skip forward and skip back so that's either for tracks of music or maybe if your if your TV is if your TV is compatible with this or maybe a DVD player or something take out the phone and you see the amplifier itself with this sticker paper stuck to the top before connecting speakers paper pretty sure no one connecting speaker cable so I'm pretty sure it's talking about the polarity make sure you get positive negative all that there's heat warning there so don't want to place anything obviously on top of the heat events so we don't cook it up you know don't want to start a fire for new amplifier that wouldn't be good put those to the side then you get owner's manual warranty all that good stuff here on the bottom and you get the amplifier itself I'll bring you down so you can get a better view of that in a minute all right so for the sound test I'm going to have a pair of poke audio t15s I know earlier I said just the one but I kind of uh excited to set it up so I set it up with what my system already before I could actually film the part where I show you the back of the amplifier so I got to take everything apart in a little bit so I can show you but right here it's the cable for my surround right speakers and then my surround laughter over here my desk somewhere because I don't have them plugged in right the second anyway you have a pair of poke audio t15s bookshelf speakers about hundred dollars a pair or fifty to a hundred dollars depending on the sale three-quarter inch tweeter it's all silk I think actually five and a quarter inch mid-bass driver a lot of excursion I have some videos I can show on that later if you want me to the previous old Sony tower speakers got them at a thrift store for ten dollars for the pair got an eight inch driver maybe two inch mid-range and then a one inch tweeter tweeter mid-range or just pure garbage but the driver shakes the house the ten inch driver shakes the house now the same thing over here then a pair of old JCPenney MCS bookshelf speakers I can have from the old amplifier head just have my decoration kind of like the the old-fashioned styling of the instructions behind them for a center channel I have just this one's plugged in this is a 90s Panasonic bookshelf speaker I don't have a proper center channel speaker yet but it'll do this is actually has pretty good bass and treble and the tweeter is not bad either like a one inch tweeter and then a three inch driver it's pretty good for us it's working pretty good for a center channel speaker I got the amplifier there obviously you plugged into it in the back I have got let me turn my light on it'll be right back all right so back here I've got I believe this is the fire TV box my chromecast HDMI cable coming from my Xbox and then this is the one going out to the TV right here I have a micro USB plug in so I could power the chrome kit fire TV box then the RCA cables are for a Sony tape deck just bought it yesterday it's broken need some repair but I think changing the belt should fix it just a regular old 80s tape deck just got the speakers wired in there interesting that they only gave you a four-way five-way binding post for the main left and right speakers instead of all the speakers all right so what I'm gonna do now is I'm gonna power the TV on then I'll show you how easy this connected the Bluetooth one of the things that really caught me off guard it was so easy to hook up to the Bluetooth you just actually use the remote there is a loud click when turn on that's already pairing to my phone it's in pairing pairing mode and I turned on my laptop off to the side we're gonna use that so I can get better sound quality out of my phone then on the GoPro because I'll just be all muddled it's not gonna sound the best you know the video stabilization is pretty good you back us all right so my laptop is being temperamental and doesn't want to connect to the amplifier I can guarantee that's my laptop not the amplifiers fault so I think we're gonna switch it to my chromecast you can change the names on everything so TV that's TV's wrong here I don't have anything plugged in tape that's one of the RCA's I believe that was SACV very familiar on the back of the amplifier Xbox and PC it's one of my HDMI's chromecast another HDMI fire TV another HDMI laptop that's also one of the HD mice but I've combined Xbox PC to save the space and then Bluetooth again AM FM tuner it's a very smooth dial it takes quite a bit of work to turn it but it's very accurate it's very satisfying as well let's go back to chromecast and we'll fire it up there we go it's gonna pull up the song on my laptop and we'll cast it through YouTube it'll be about the same audio quality anyway so there I got my laptop hooked up to the chromecast and I think I'm gonna Top here all the same stuff Dolby Auto DTS audio calibration calibration I can't English today. Alright on the top here just to keep it closed because I can't find any masking tape I got wire strippers and then the inert grenade not a live grenade obviously that's just help keep the lid shut because I couldn't find the tape obviously and then just some regular 16 gauge copper wire ten bucks maybe for a hundred feet so let's get cracking and opening this thing. Make sure this isn't lined up with the camera

 We're going to reason that for the test. Underneath the amplifier here you're going to see just a SciTech flight simulator control panel that's not going to be used here today I'm just using that the prop of the box so you can see the information here hopefully it comes out somewhat nicely. Alright so just on the box let's talk about what you can see. Hi-res audio that tested it actually sounds pretty nice 4k HDR so you can run your HDMI cables in and have HDR 4k it's nice 60 frames per second as well it's 5

 This powered my Defendant Technology Mythos STS tower speakers, those speakers were four grand for the pair and this had no problem powering those along with my other speakers. Sony states it's 145 watts per channel, it's not, it's not. Once you have all channels powered, you're probably looking at around maybe 60, 65, maybe 70 watts per channel for 8 ohms. Different modes up front, you got your push power button, you got your AMB speakers, tuning mode for your radio, different buttons on the front for your two channel, multi channel mode, movie mode, music mode, night mode, so you can go into different dims so at night you don't have to have it as bright for your different type of display and you got your big rotary volume and input selector and on the remote you just, you can just do everything, you can go into the GUI on the TV and do all your settings and such, your calibration and such and on the back, which is your typical back, swing it around here, as you see it's pretty simple, nothing too extravagant, you got your wire hook up for your channels for your speakers, again this is just a, it's an entry level AVR, your front, center, surrounds and you can use this for rear surround or height surround and you can also biamp it, you have 5 HDMI for your gaming, streaming, cable and such and then eARC for your TV and so then you have some RCA jacks, coaxial, optical, it's nothing, it's nothing too complicated, it's pretty, pretty simple

This is something for someone who lives in a small living environment, they might just have a bedroom, a small living room, they don't have a big area to fill and they might just have to be on a budget, copy. So yeah, budget, this is about two years old and these sell for, still being sold, anywhere from $400 to $450

Sony STR-DH790 7.2-channel home theater receiver | Crutchfield

1 has better on screen menus than brand new Sony 7.1 unit.  Sony has been building A/V receivers since at least 1990, I had a 1990 Sony unit, which honestly for what it was was better than this new unit. How could Sony build A/V receivers for 32 years and design such a lackluster product that is in every aspect but one bested by a 2006 unit?  Yes, I could have spent $150 more for a competing brand's unit

 Could it have hurt you Sony to have included a $0.10 LED so a user can see at a glance where the volume is set? Or at least paint a white strip on the volume dial?  Old Onkyo 7.1 has better on screen menus than brand new Sony 7.1 unit

 Which means it can't have one remote control change power and volume. And since that is such a huge usability issue I had to upgrade. Who wants to be forced to use 3 remotes today to controlled from what should be one unit?  Old Onkyo 7.1 sounds better than brand new Sony 7

Very Average Unit, Corners Cut

 Emergency flashlight with three different settings on it. So a really cool unit. What's really cool is this screen on the front that tells you battery life, how much battery is in here, how much battery consumption you're using. Really cool

 So we have a few buttons towards the top, so speaker button here, we can turn our speakers on and off, or we can turn on the speaker A, speaker B, and then we have our tuning mode for AM, FM, two channel or multi input so we can change our listening formats here, movie, music, and night mode, then we have a display button where we can change what's being shown on the display, so we can show volume, we can show our source input, we can show our sound format, and back to volume there, and then we can dim that screen or turn it off completely with that button, and then our Bluetooth pairing here, and pure direct mode there. So input selector, this allows us to go through all of our multimedia options here, so FM, AM, TV, Bluetooth, media box, Blu-ray, DVD, satellite, cable, gaming, and CD, and then it loops all the way through, and of course we have our volume knob, which is actually pretty solid feeling, so not bad at all, not bad at all.
