The quality of the fabric and materials are good. For a couple more hundred bucks i could’ve upgraded to the gen2, but did not know until i got this xl tent but hey it was on sale, plus i needed it early on this year before the crowd. So far i liked it, just needed to upgrade to telescoping ladder, and maybe a see thru rainfly on the top. Kept us warm inside with 30-40 deg temps at night

Didnt know about the Gen 2 till i got this one

 Not really suited for someone over 6’. I’m 5’9” and it fits me with room. It’s cheap material and needs careful care to not damage. Get a mattress topper if you are a side sleeper or have bones in your body

I installed tent and was so happy till I went to put away and found they sent small cover not xl well can’t drive it as it needs the cover and it’s going to rain. I called smittybilt they said they knew this was an issue but had no covers but would see what they could do and would call back in no more than 2 hrs after 4 hrs I called back and was told they will have one to me “soon”.UPDATE: they have sent out a correct cover. Hope the tent held up under the tarp till it gets here

 We sleep up top and have room to stretch out and have our bags up there as well. I’m 6’-04” and she is 5’-10” and it’s perfect. We have been in other RTTs and they would be ok to sleep in but no room for bags. We like that so we don’t have to go back and forth to the car

 It’s a maze to walk through the annex when they are there but it works. This tent is amazing for the price. We eventually want to move to a hard shell RTT but this one has been great and a fourth of the cost of the hard shell we want. We love the Velcro LEDS that come with the tent and the quality is great

Mostly good, the aluminum u-bar to hold out for entrance buckles in rain storm had to make new one. Have had this for 2 camping seasons now and the straps to hold it together while stowed are all frayed and had to be replaced dont believe they were weather proof. Did add an extra 3" memory foam pad to sleep more comfortably. All in all a good tent and would purchase again

  Edit (9/16/16): We have camped out in the tent once in the backyard to try it out before we take it on a long trip. We have had the tent setup for about 2 weeks so the girls can play in it and we can make sure it can "weather" a decent storm. It had stayed dry through 4-5 heavy rain storms with winds gusting 25-35 knots.  Also, we figured out how to remove the rainfly so it is for sure removeable

Definitely a good buy if you need a large roof top tent

 Design is good. I can’t imagine it being able to withstand the stated weight rating, but my family is all on the skinny and short side, so I don’t foresee an issue. Glad I went with the XL. Although I know Smittybilt does not recommend these for vehicle top mount (they say for only trailer use nowadays), it fits great on the top of my LR Discovery 2, and I don’t feel like the added weight up top will be that terrible

Possibly the best value in roof tents

This tent is huge, I have a 2017 Tacoma long bed and it fits just right on there. If you have the short bed, this will be too big The inside is huge, we have taken it camping several times and I feel like 4 people can easily fit in there. Two adults and a German Shepherd slept in there just fine. The ladder is a little funky, when you open it up the side that sits on the ladder side feels really weak

 I would prefer to be above ground than down there because what we saw is we opened up our tent, shine the light down below and there's six or seven javelinas attacking our food bin for two hours. So I don't want to be down there when they're attacking our food bin right outside our door. I prefer to be above ground. Bigger animals might still be able to crawl into your tent but pro tip just don't leave any food in there

 A rooftop tent can handle all four seasons and it is constructed with coated denier canvas made to withstand the elements and can last for years with proper care. We have personal experience from when we traveled to West Texas a couple months ago and the whole trip we had about 30 miles an hour wind. Our rooftop tent was able to withstand all that wind. We traveled with some family and friends and they were planning on putting down their ground tent

 Who knows? So I think that the rooftop tent is definitely worth it because you can go and start your adventures wherever you park. The number three reason why we believe the rooftop tent is definitely worth it is because of the extra cargo space that you will have with a rooftop tent being on top of your vehicle. So our Tough Stuff Alpha is able to fit four pillows at the back as well as a comforter or a sleeping bag in there and we're able to close the tent down and go on our way. And they all fit in there so you don't have to worry about putting that at the back of your vehicle

 We are from Houston, Texas and we have traveled all throughout Texas as well as to the Texas Hill Country and all the way to Big Bend.

 So I don't recommend camping in a hurricane or a river in my opinion.

 You don't have to worry about finding a good spot to set up your ground tent.

 Pretty much you park you put down your tent and you're good to go.

 Some sites maybe rocky muddy have uneven ground. Nobody wants to worry about that.

 That's why a four wheel drive vehicle is perfect for a rooftop tent because it can take you wherever you want and then you can set up and you're good to go.

 However please understand that we do not have a four wheel drive but it was still perfect.

 We were able to go wherever we wanted. We haven't been able to go to other places such as Utah or Colorado where you might need a four wheel drive.

 So I think that the rooftop tent is definitely worth it because you can go and start your adventures wherever you park.

 The number three reason why we believe the rooftop tent is definitely worth it is because of the extra cargo space that you will have with a rooftop tent being on top of your vehicle.

 So our Tough Stuff Alpha is able to fit four pillows at the back as well as a comforter or a sleeping bag in there and we're able to close the tent down and go on our way.

 And they all fit in there so you don't have to worry about putting that at the back of your vehicle.

 Which means that you can go and bring more fun camping necessities throughout your trip.

 So we're able to bring our cooler, our inflatable paddle board and kayak as well as our cooking gear that we're able to put in our chuck box that my husband made us.
