The Roofnest Sparrow EYE is one of our favorite rooftop tents of all time. The ease with which it can go from travel mode to camping mode and back again is mind-blowingly quick, and the process is almost as simple as lifting the hatchback on the back of your car. The initial rooftop install is nearly as easy; there is no assembly required for the tent itself; just lift the entire box onto your roof rack and tighten down the bolts. An overhead cargo net and two side pouches provide storage and organization for the interior of the tent, and in case you need even more storage, the hard shell top can accommodate up to 50lbs of gear. Even when in travel mode, there is still enough room inside the closed tent to leave pillows, sleeping bags, and other bedding inside, further simplifying the setup process when you arrive at your campsite.
We are impressed with how spacious and comfortable the EYE feels for a two-person model, but it still does not compare with the other three-person models we tested. It also lost a few points for durability due to the lightweight 320G polyurethane-coated polyester/cotton blend that makes up the tent canopy. Other tents use a more robust 600D ripstop material that is inherently more durable. Our only complaint with the installation of this tent is that the bulky box may be too much for two people to lift on their own, and you may find it more manageable with 3-4 sets of hands. Otherwise, the Roofnest Sparrow EYE provides a luxurious rooftop camping experience that is hard to find anywhere else.

After being put through our tried and true gauntlet of evaluations, it was clear that the Roofnest Sparrow EYE is one of the best hardshell rooftop tents available. We've gotten used to spending upwards of an hour assembling other models. With the EYE, this was not the case &mdash; it was great to put this tent on the rack mere minutes after opening the box. When you arrive at your campsite, it takes about 45 seconds to convert the EYE from travel to camping mode, thanks to hydraulic pistons that help to open the tent like the hatchback of an SUV. Inside, there is a USB-powered light strip, a cargo net, several storage pockets, insulation to help battle the elements, and one of the most comfortable rooftop tent mattresses we've ever slept on. Not only is there enough room inside to leave blankets, pillows, and sleeping bags in place while you're traveling, but the EYE has a special storage area complete with a weather-resistant pouch for even more gear on top of the roof. 
The main drawback we found with the Sparrow EYE is that it's bulky. Due to the pop-up nature of the design, the footprint of the tent stays the same size whether you're in camping or travel mode. When it's folded up, it's not any taller or wider than soft-top models, but it is much longer. This attribute means it won't work for those who want to keep their tent at the same height as their cab over a truck bed. If you own a smaller vehicle or SUV, you can technically still use this model as long as you have the appropriate rack, but the wind drag will most certainly affect gas mileage. The other hitter with the EYE is the price. If you're shopping for a rooftop tent with limited funds, we'd recommend reading up on some of the more budget-friendly models in our review.

 Hey what's going on everybody? My name is Ben and I'm Maddie and we are The Rooftop Trekkers.

 We're out here in Lake Chelan today and we're going to show you around our roof nest sparrow.

 Now I'm going to show you just how easy it is to pop the roof nest sparrow. All you have to do is

 unlatch the four clips, one on each side, and the roof nest will pop right up. Once you have all of

 the latches unclipped, it's super easy to pop the roof nest. You just simply push up on the front

 and push up on the back and it pops right up. Now all you need is your ladder so that you can climb

 up and get cozy. Here's the ladder. It's super easy to set up.

 One thing we love about the roof nest sparrow is that it comes with shoe bags.

 So you clip these shoe bags on the outside of your roof nest

 and then you can put your shoes inside and it helps keep your tent really clean.

 And Maddie likes a clean tent. One of the things that we love the most about the roof nest sparrow,

 other than how easy it is to set up, is the big windows that it has on each side that have the

 capability of opening up all the way so that you can get the best views and get all the fresh air.

 Oh it's cozy up here. Hey babe, I hope you brought some beers. One of the things I used to hate about

 standard tents was how bright it got in the morning when you're trying to sleep in.

 So one of my other favorite things about the sparrow are the

 are the sides of the tent totally zip up to keep all of the sunlight out in the morning

 As you can see it gets super dark in here. Sorry babe, sorry I have the lens cap on. There you go.

 Oh thanks. These very cute string lights have a bit of character and make the nest very cozy.

 There's about eight different settings that you can choose from depending on your mood.

 Oh we're feeling very ravy tonight. We're gonna be raving in the roof nest, oh yeah.

 Something else that is really nice about the roof nest is all the storage. Over here you have

 storage for things like your cell phones, your headlights, different stuff like that. There's

 also some hooks to hang your clothes, your hats, anything like that and up here we have a couple

 bungee cords to hang various things over. So it's really nice to have some storage up in the roof

 nest and it's always good to have places to put things. As two very tall people, we're both about

 six foot. We really appreciate that we're able to sit up straight in the roof nest and not have

 our heads hit. It just makes it really comfortable for hanging out, eating dinner, just chilling in

 here. In addition, an advantage of a hard shell rooftop tent versus a soft shell is the ability

 to store your bedding inside of the tent. So inside the tent we always leave our blankets

 and two pillows so it's really nice to not have to pull it in and out of the car every time. We

 just leave it up here in the roof nest and we're ready to camp at any time. We are very spoiled

 with our roof nest because it comes with a three inch thick foam mattress that is super comfortable.

 We get a great night's sleep on it. We can both fit sleeping side by side. There's just plenty of

 space up here for two people. You can even add another person or a dog. There's just plenty of

 space to get cozy up here. There's also an anti-condensation mat underneath the mattress

 so that helps keep the condensation away from the mattress. So if you don't want to keep your

 windows wide open like so, there's also mesh on the windows that you can zip up like a standard

 tent and this can keep any bugs out, cut back on the breeze a little bit. It's just really nice

 to have the option. So now we're going to show you just how quick and easy it is to tear down

 the roof nest sparrow. All you need to do is pull down the ladder, pull down the front,

 then the back, and you're good to go. Easy peasy.

 Something else worth mentioning is there are handles on the front and back to help you pull

 it down and then once you get the whole roof nest down you just stuff in the extra tent

 This definitely helps when it's a little bit colder outside. One of the things that you notice, you lose a lot of heat through the base of your tent because as it as the wind gets up underneath it, it just sucks all the heat out from underneath the tent. Roofnest Sparrow Roof Top Tent Review: In the Garage

 Hey guys, this is Rustin with Overlanding USA. Welcome to the Overland Network and another episode of In the Garage.

 Today I'm in the garage we're gonna be talking about rooftop tents, particularly this roof nest model named Sparrow.

 We're gonna go over a few of the features of this tent.

 We're also going to talk about some of my experience with the tent, some of the pros, some of the cons, and why I think you should buy one.

 Okay guys, talking about this tent in particular. Like I said, this is the roof nest. It's the model name is Sparrow.

 It's one of the more compact ones that they sell. They sell one model that is larger than this. It's called the Eagle.

 The only difference being that this Sparrow is about 48 inches wide. The Eagle is 56. Eagle weighs slightly more obviously.
