Smittybilt Gen 2 vs Smittybilt Overlander

Not really suited for someone over 6’. I’m 5’9” and it fits me with room. It’s cheap material and needs careful care to not damage. Get a mattress topper if you are a side sleeper or have bones in your body

What we did to fix that was we actually have a two inch memory foam pad that we got on Amazon that we throw on top of this. It's not in here right now...

Mostly good, the aluminum u-bar to hold out for entrance buckles in rain storm had to make new one. Have had this for 2 camping seasons now and the straps to hold it together while stowed are all frayed and had to be replaced dont believe they were weather proof. Did add an extra 3" memory foam pad to sleep more comfortably. All in all a good tent and would purchase again

Edit (9/16/16): We have camped out in the tent once in the backyard to try it out before we take it on a long trip. We have had the tent setup for about 2 weeks so the girls can play in it and we can make sure it can "weather" a decent storm. It had stayed dry through 4-5 heavy rain storms with winds gusting 25-35 knots. Also, we figured out how to remove the rainfly so it is for sure removeable

All cars are rated for a max dynamic roof weight of 150lbs (stability and safe turning). Sturdy roof rails are key! Preferably, I’d like to add a 3rd roof rail for weight distribution over the long term. The ladder is a shining spot. It’s nice and wide and safe for those late night restroom trips

Design is good. I can’t imagine it being able to withstand the stated weight rating, but my family is all on the skinny and short side, so I don’t foresee an issue. Glad I went with the XL. Although I know Smittybilt does not recommend these for vehicle top mount (they say for only trailer use nowadays), it fits great on the top of my LR Discovery 2, and I don’t feel like the added weight up top will be that terrible

I’m 6’3” and have a lot of experience lifting heavy construction material. I was able to heave the 116lbs RTT on to the rack with no problem. However, if I had help I would have used it. I do not recommend doing this on your own

This tent is huge, I have a 2017 Tacoma long bed and it fits just right on there. If you have the short bed, this will be too big The inside is huge, we have taken it camping several times and I feel like 4 people can easily fit in there. Two adults and a German Shepherd slept in there just fine. The ladder is a little funky, when you open it up the side that sits on the ladder side feels really weak
