 Nice detail is that there are grooves on the bottom part of the lens to provide more grip while you are mounting the lens on the camera, because the area where you can grip the lens while mounting it is pretty short, there is no switch to turn the autofocus on and off, you can do that in the camera, but it is not image stabilized. On Sony cameras it provides full functionality, so the autofocus works in every mode, including face detection, eye autofocus does work, face tracking works as well and so does the clear image zoom which works with every lens on Sony a6500. And now let's take a look at the performance, instead of the paper tests I will test it in real world using our testing landscape and the central sharpness is very good right from f1.4

 So first of all what is it? Well it is wide angle lens with 24mm full frame equivalent focal length and very wide f1.4 aperture, that means that it lets in a lot of light and it can blur the background even at that wide 16mm focal length. It is made mostly of metal, the rear part of this lens is fully metal up to the rubberized focusing ring, the build quality of this lens is top notch, it feels incredibly solid, it feels like a premium product, matte black surface finishing is very nice and it will probably be quite durable, it has some heft to it, it is actually pretty small considering that it is wide angle lens with such wide aperture, because there has to be a lot of glass to concentrate all of that light onto the sensor. The length of this lens is 92

4 center sharpness is very good and stop down it is razor sharp from corner to corner, it is also very suitable for landscape shooting, autofocus with this lens on a6000 series cameras is excellent in both stills and video and this lens also provides full functionality as if it was Sony lens. For me this lens also changes usability of Sony aps-c cameras, where the lens selection is generally perceived as a weakness of the system and now there is finally a specialized wide angle wide aperture lens available for the system, until now only Fujifilm had 16mm f1.4 lens for aps-c and it costs more than twice as much as sigma 16mm f1.4, not even Canon and Nikon make one, there is a Leica 12mm f1

 Overall the build quality is excellent, there is nothing that I could complain about, lens hood is also supplied and the quality of the lens hood is also very good like on other Sigma lenses that I've tested, there is also 67mm filter thread for mounting filters. In terms of handling and controls, there is just the focusing ring, it is extremely smooth, it takes up half of the length of the lens, the amount of resistance and the travel of the ring are in my opinion perfect, so this lens is very suitable for manual focusing and in Sony a6500 it also shows the focusing distance scale on the display, focus peaking and focus magnification are available as well. 4 are very satisfactory, comparable to the shots I make with my preferred Sony 28 mm f2. Update: I tested it over the weekend and I am impressed. The small photos here might not tell, but the actual size pics show that lens is very sharp at low light even when wide open, and there are close to no chromatic aberrations at high contrast. A wonderful lens I can highly recommend!

 I still have to test it for videos, what I can see and read in youtube it performs very well though. The pictures I took with this Sigma 16mm f1.4 are very satisfactory, comparable to the shots I make with my preferred Sony 28 mm f2. Update: I tested it over the weekend and I am impressed

 a quality lens in this category. It is very well build, feels solid, great grip with a rubberized ring. It is large, but it feels right in my hand with a Sony a 6300. Most important for me: it is extremely sharp, from center to corners

It's for Sony's E-mount cameras, and Micro Four Thirds with their smaller sensors, and it costs about £380 in the UK, or $400, making it potentially good value for money, if it's any good. I'd like to thank Sigma UK for loaning me a review copy of this lens for testing, although as usual, this is a totally independent review

4C can really fly. Its distortion is rather strong, and the bokeh could be a little smoother, but its value for money, build quality, high contrast, and close focus distance are all brilliant, and aside from anything else, it's a fantastically useful lens. Those dramatically wide images combined with the bright maximum aperture makes it just so enjoyable to use. It's been a while since I've given any lens this particular accolade, but especially considering its very good value for money, it has to come highly recommended

8, they're almost perfect. The corners stay this sharp down to f8. Overall, those results speak for themselves here, really. The image quality of this lens is simply brilliant

4 with autofocus is very much non-existent so this is a great addition for the Sony E-mount shooters. Now in terms of its size, it is a bit large especially when you attach the lens hood. It is also a bit front heavy so you may not feel as comfortable with it if you are using it on an A5000 series camera. Although if you are using it on an A3000 or A6000 series camera, you should have enough grip to properly hold it without having to feel too uncomfortable

 This lens is a hefty boi at 405 grams so take that into consideration if you're going to have to mount it somewhere. The lack of image stabilization is fine if you're just going to be taking pictures or mounting it in 1 place for videos like me, but I wouldn't recommend trying to vlog with this lens because the camera shake was pretty noticeable. I unfortunately can't speak to the quality of this lens for landscape photography, but overall I'm thrilled with the build and image quality that this gives me for my streams.

Perfect Streamer Lens

 Number one, to this point there aren't any APS-C bodies that I've ever used including the Sony a6500 that I'm doing the review on that I find does as well at higher ISO's as equivalent full frame bodies. And so a lot of pluses there, it behaves very nicely for, with all of the different protocols with the Sony body, Eye AF works well and it does provide good video servo AF and face tracking and video. I have found in a few, you know, more challenging maybe backlit situations that focus will waver a little bit, but at the same time, I haven't yet seen anything on my Sony systems that corresponds as well to what Canon's DP AF does on the Canon side. And so part of that is also due to the nature that Sony's face tracking for video AF isn't top notch or at least not as good as what Canon's is

 It's a reasonably priced lens and you know, particularly when you consider some of the cost of some of the either Sony branded lenses or the Zeiss Tuit series, this lens has a very attractive price tag of around $449 in the US market and while that is the most expensive of any of Sigma's offerings for mirrorless, it's in the big scheme of things, that's a reasonably priced lens, particularly when you consider what it is, a wide aperture, very wide aperture and wide angle lens. And so I don't know that there is any wide angle lens that has more going for it on Sony's E-mount APS-C than what this lens does. And so it's easy for me to give it a recommendation, in fact I gave it the highest recommendation I can. I bought it for myself, I eliminated the Sigma 19mm f2

 But I think I understand the logic behind that, that this lens is somewhat of a hybrid of optical technology and then as well as some electronic technology in terms of delivering the end product. But of course I think what matters for most of us is going to be that end product and thanks to the fact that Sony does allow for third party profiles to be embedded in its cameras it means that as a result whether you're shooting JPEGs or if you're bringing the RAW file into a RAW converter like an Adobe product for example, I find that already the profile is there along with the RAW file, you don't have to wait for Adobe to add that, it's already embedded there in the RAW file and so it's easy to apply that and thus get the end result. And so in some ways you have to do more work to see an uncorrected result than you do to see the corrected result. And so if you didn't tune in before for our image quality segment I would encourage you to take a look at that here where I break that kind of image quality and the end result down in more detail

 Hi, I'm Dustin Abbott and I'm here today to give you my final review of the new Sigma 16mm f1.4, this is a DC DN lens. It is for mirrorless systems including Sony E-mount where I'm reviewing it today and also Micro Four Thirds. Now this lens bears Sigma's contemporary mark and the explanation that I've been receiving for this that while it looks like an art lens in terms of the build and design and of course the fact that it's a very large maximum aperture lens, is that the contemporary designation comes from the fact that the end product of the image quality, and that includes things like distortion and chromatic aberration and other aspects vignette like that, that the end product is not all the internal correction of the lens elements and the optical formula but it relies in part on the embedded profile either in a Sony or a Micro Four Thirds body to kind of complete the picture

If you are getting EF lenses, I'd definitively look at the used market.  You can find L lenses in great condition in the used market for reasonable prices as many folks are moving to RF lenses.  Most (but definitively not all) people take really good care of their L lenses, cuz, let's face it, they are \_expensive\_!!!     That might open some space for getting an R.

Now for body, i  was looking at rp since I'm already blowing a good amount of money on lens, i want to just buy entry level mirrorless (rp) from canon. I wanted to know what do you guys think about the RP, the pro and cons you have experience so far?

 We'll have to wait for formal lab testing to see how evenly sharp it is, but 85mm designs are typically pretty even in clarity from the center to the periphery.

8 STF GM OSS, which features a special lens element that adds feather blur, creating perfectly circular highlights behind your subject. But perfectly round highlights are uncommon. The pricier Zeiss Batis 1.8/85 shows a similar effect, and while the shape isn't as extreme, Sony's top-end FE 85mm F1

 It's in stark contrast to the slow, plodding autofocus delivered by Sony's other budget FE prime lens, the FE 50mm F1.8.

The FE 85mm doesn't boast its own optical stabilization system, so if you own an E-mount camera without in-body stabilization, you'll want to think about spending more on the Batis, especially if you plan to use the 85mm for handheld video. More recent full-frame bodies, as well as the APS-C a6500, include in-body image stabilization, mitigating the omission.

Sony FE 85mm F1.8 Review

 That's one reason why I opted for this 85 mm f/1.8 prime, since the f/1.4 GM version is quite heavy in comparison.

It doesn't have all of the bells & whistles from the Sony GM line or even there G series lenses, but it's an excellent lens as many professional photographers have stated in their reviews. I decided to buy this lens for traveling to complement my other prime lenses that I have, since I often like to use primes when I want to travel light. That's one reason why I opted for this 85 mm f/1.8 prime, since the f/1

8 IS is simply so much better, and the price difference isn't as big as with the EF equivalents, that I'll always just recommend the 35mm. And if you already have the 35mm and don't particularly use it, well, the 50mm f/1.8 isn't going to do much for you, either. 

2, which is *technically* worse but is more flattering right out of camera for portraiture and overall is a bit more interesting. Still, I bought a Zhongyi Mitakon 50mm f/0.95 and once I A:B'd that with the RF f/1.2, I made the choice to sell the Canon lens and have yet to regret it

8, f/4 or so on, you won't see a difference in sharpness in real-world use; test charts in a 'lab' environment may be a different matter, but I don't care about test charts for evaluating portrait lenses and in my use, from f/2.8 onward the two lenses produced identical results.  

 The f/1.8 feels a little worse than the EF STM version, though not by much and that could have just been copy variation at play; in any case, it's definitely not quite as well built as the 35mm, which is still the best-built RF STM lens. So if you have that 35mm just imagine one step below that and that's the build of the 50mm.  

I want a nice portrait lens to use indoor and outdoors with good bokeh with the R5. is the RF 50 1.2 worth 10 times the 1.8 version? i don’t really like the noisy slower AF of the STM lenses but i do like how small and compact they are. what are some advantages of the 1.2 that make it worth the expense? is the bokeh and sharpness that much better?

<p>I have the RF 35 1.8 that i don’t use that much anymore ever since getting the Rf 15-35. I find the AF of the 35 pretty slow compared to an L lens. is the RF 50 1.8 AF as slow as the 35?</p>
