Shure MV7 vs Shure SM7B

If your main recording scenario will be analog, we suggest going with the actual SM7B or another XLR option, but if you want versatility, or will be using an exclusively digital/USB connection, the MV7 is an excellent mic worthy of its price. In the higher-priced USB mic realm, we’re also fans of the $350 Apogee Hype Mic, the $285 Blue Raspberry, and the $200 Razer Seiren Elite. But the Shure MV7 easily stands among these options, bringing something different to the table with its dynamic capsule and its XLR/USB versatility.

..if you really think hard about it, it is thus trying to be like a condenser mic, but whereas a condenser mic has a built-in preamp, this SM7B needs an external preamp! In-between, that's where it is

Also, if you don't already have jobs reading audiobooks, a very cheap setup isn't going to get you any, especially paid jobs. Taking a job just because it is willing to pay is also hurting the entire economy in the long run, as the value per recording drops significantly if you agree to an extremely low pay. You should be charging ideally X amount up to X amount of words, and then an additional fee per word, per rewrite. You shouldn't be doing a book for less than a few hundred dollars

Free / low cost software preferred. Not a fan of subscription services like AdobeCC or MS365.

You can choose your monitor mix, you can do different compression and, as you can hear, it sounds fantastic through the usb. I think it sounds fantast...

Our new Shure SM7B doesn't sound nearly as good and I think cost $400, but it is super good at blocking off background noise. That's the only thing it is good at. I know it is famous since Michael Jackson liked it, but I think he liked it for its distortion. Why can't we make decent microphones for a reasonable price?

I already had this mic but never used it since I had an SM58 and Yeti... this is the best mic I've used probably period in my entire podcasting and YouTube career

High noise floor Seriously, unless you're a veteran in the podcast or voiceover field and can list five solid reasons for purchasing the SM7B (none of which includes "the look"), don't buy this microphone. If you're rocking a Scarlet interface, don't buy this microphone. Most podcasters are going to get a better sound with an Audio Technica AT2100 or other entry-level dynamic (or--if you have a solo podcast and a quiet environment-- even a midrange condenser ). Plus you'll save a few hundred bucks

I'm mostly looking at the Shure MV7 vs the Samson Q9U now. Both seem like they would be totally fine for my purposes. Which would have better off-axis/background noise rejection? And what other mics should I look at? Ideally older models that are more available on the used market to save money. Budget would be up to MV7 new price so I guess $250
