If you have a wide seating arrangement, look into the Samsung Q80/Q80A QLED. It has worse dark room performance than the TCL 6 Series/R646 2021 QLED because its IPS-like panel has low contrast, and the local dimming is mediocre. However, it has wide viewing angles, and the image remains accurate when viewed from the side. Its speakers sound similar to the TCL, and it has better bass, but you still won't get the true rumbling and thumping you'll get with a subwoofer. It has many gaming-friendly features like HDMI 2.1 bandwidth, variable refresh rate (VRR) support, and low input lag. However, it's not a good choice for dark room gaming, and the local dimming feature performs worse in Game Mode.

If you want a TV with the best sound and a LED panel, the TCL is a great choice. If you prefer something with wider viewing angles, check out the Samsung.

I didn't get the chance to hook up a ps5 or an xbox series x to this tv in time for the review, but i can tell you that, based on its specs should be very good for those new consoles. The tv has 4k 120 hertz input

 You can see there's quick access to a lot of different settings, including game mode picture mode and other extras. You can get to really quickly without diving deep into the menu. I like that, a lot.  What you're buying this tv for is design and features. It has a really nicely integrated external look with a great remote and a really nice smart tv system. It also has excellent connectivity if those are reason enough for you or you just like the samsung brand. The q8t is the best value in the lineup for 2020

Samsung Q80T QLED TV review

 And the fast refresh rate is no doubt great for gaming. Also, the "smart" features (like using streaming apps, etc) is much improved from older TVs at this price point. This TV has a faster processor and that makes switching from Youtubetv to Netflix, etc., much easier

 The soundbar works, but I can't use one remote to control volumes, etc. That's disappointing. The 6 speaker sound on the QLED 80A is an improvement over older TVs at this price point, but not as good as a soundbar w/ subwoofer. Wish I could figure this out (if anyone knows the solution, please comment and tell me)

It's good/ as advertized, some quirks I don't like

 Too cumbersome and quality is very lacking on the 3rd party apps I've found. Only other option I see is casting, but why did I buy this tv if I have to cast? Casting is in low res as far as I've found so not a great option. Voice recognition is worthless and doesn't seem to understand much in the way of commands and finding stuff. Kinda like trying to get Siri to understand what you're looking for

  However, Samsung needs to get a better guide for use. Very cumbersome to add channels and does not have app availability like a Roku. It's "atmospheric" screen saver is just awful as are most of the other options. Forget surfing the internet

  I will update this review if I choose to replace rather than get a refund, fingers crossed the process isn't a nightmare and it can be resolved expeditiously.

 One for the Splitter and now I have to use the sound bar remote for volume. I was really hoping I could just use the TV remote as advertised. Oh well.  btw, I HATE the home screen, stays on forever when you turn the TV on

 The home screen is cluttered and confusing and it stays on forever it seems, blocking you from getting to the screen behind. Took digging in outside sources (YouTube) to find a way to turn that crap off. I'm sure SAMSUNG wants us to see the adverts (Why does a TV cost this much when it's being used as a billboard for SAMSUNG client Adverts?) so if you get one of these they don't make turning the Home Screen off intuitive. YouTube has several others who feel as I do about the Home Screen who can show you how to turn this brain melting clutter off

 Thankfully there are few things I'll use this TV for that don't use HDMI. Sadly, it means two more damned remotes cluttering the place. One for the Splitter and now I have to use the sound bar remote for volume. I was really hoping I could just use the TV remote as advertised

Digital Sound Issues, Home Screen is cluttered and LINGERS

 It's bright, has rich colors and contrast, very good black levels, all the bells and whistles you can hope for. So why am I give this only 3 stars, you ask? Let me explain..

Why do you do this, Samsung?

 Possible I had a defective one as was surprised. The remote is tiny and what bothered me the most was the Samsung tv channels that were embedded in the tv and would turn on tv to those. I returned it and maybe just a bad set.

Wanted to love this tv

 After hours of reading web, etc. I called Samsung (not expecting much) and was stunned I only had to wait about 2 minutes and the (very nice) person had me re-pair the remote using the bluetooth setup procedure for remotes. Apparently, at that setup point there is a firmware bug that unpairs the remote! Hope this helps if someone runs into it.  Minor Problem: Our prior Samsung TVs automatically recognized the DirecTV receiver and AppleTV 4K

 The Pioneers spoiled us so we're very picky about the other 4 TVs and always wind up with the top models available in the needed size. I received the the Q90A 55 inch March 2 to replace a Samsung Q70R 49 inch in the bright day lit exercise room because it has 60 watts of sound so I can now hear dialog over the treadmill!  I tested picture quality watching Amazon's "The Expanse" via the AppleTV in 4K. This show has jet black space scenes with tiny bright white specks of items, the credits are tiny in bright white against jet black. Everything is razor sharp with zero blooming! Just like the plasma!  The show contains many fantastic scenes full of dark and bright colors on jet black that are rendered perfectly, while still keeping skin tones natural

 I am posting here in case someone else runs into them, otherwise the TV is fantastic. I noticed a firmware update was ready once I got it working. Here goes:  Major Problem: The remote froze right after you select your network and the password screen display. I entered one letter of the password and everything froze

 I found that only the power on/off button worked, no other remote buttons worked. I tried a different Samsung remote and it did exactly the same thing, worked once and stopped. After hours of reading web, etc. I called Samsung (not expecting much) and was stunned I only had to wait about 2 minutes and the (very nice) person had me re-pair the remote using the bluetooth setup procedure for remotes
