Consider the Salomon STH2 13. It has the most elastic travel of any binding on the market so you can essentially set your din lower without risking pre release.

I just got a new set of Line Sick Day 104’s. These will be my powder/trees/bumps/freshies skis. I have another set for groomer/ice days. 

I say I’d fall in the higher end of advanced intermediate, or lower end of expert. 200#, 5’11”. 

My other set has Marker Griffon bindings. I like em. 

But I’m conscious of safety on these given the type of skiing I’ll be doing on them. I used to have Look Pivot bindings on an old set of skis. 

Question would be, is any set of bindings really safer? Do the Look Pivots have a real world advantage there or is it a gimmick?

I don’t really see needing more than 10 DIN for my style of skiing FWIW.

Binding advice, please

 Hey guys, what's up, it's Jake, today I have a review for you of the Salomon STH2WTR bindings. Now these bindings have a DIN range of 5 to 13, and are generally meant for intermediate or advanced skiers, even really advanced skiers can ride these comfortably with good confidence in their bindings, holding them down to the ski. Now these bindings have a very wide mounting stance, a wide teflon base plate for the toe, and generally solid materials. They're mainly plastic, but it does keep up relatively well with durability, I have them mounted on some fat Icelandic skis that I've been using for powder, I used them out in Utah over February break, and they were really nice, really ripped, and I was really happy with them

 Now these bindings have a very wide mounting stance, a wide teflon base plate for the toe, and generally solid materials. They're mainly plastic, but it does keep up relatively well with durability, I have them mounted on some fat Icelandic skis that I've been using for powder, I used them out in Utah over February break, and they were really nice, really ripped, and I was really happy with them. So other than durability, these are very durable bindings, they have high quality plastic materials, not metal, but that keeps them relatively lightweight, but they aren't as light as you think they are for an all plastic binding. Some features are the WTR is the walk to ride system that allows you to use touring boots with walk base plates that allow you to more comfortably walk on say asphalt or cement

 The difference between this is this is a heavier binding, and it does have a lower mounting stance and a metal heel piece, so you're not going to be breaking your heel piece on this. Other than that, coming back to the Salomon binding, it's relatively fairly priced. Ski bindings these days are very expensive, but you're not going to find a much better binding other than the two I mentioned for really powder and park. So if you have a chance, and the price is right, definitely check it out

These bindings are the only in-bounds binding I trust. After having used other brands in the past, these Salomon STH2 bindings are second to none. For me the weight of these bindings gives me the confidence to make hard charging turns down the fall line without worry of pre-releasing.

 Hey, this is Dylan from The Ski Monster and today we're going to go over how to adjust your Salomon STH ski binding. First we're going to begin with forward pressure. We have a screw on the back of the heel piece and when we engage it we want it to be flush with the housing. Let's start by clicking that in and seeing where we end up

 That's perfect forward pressure. The second step is we're going to adjust the toe height so we make proper contact with the AFD. So we're going to engage our boot again. We're going to give it a tug back to make sure it's seated properly and we're going to take something similar to the thickness of a business card and slide in between the AFD and the sole of the boot

 So I'm going to put this to a 10. So we grab a flathead screwdriver and we're going to turn this clockwise until the line matches to the proper number, which is 10. Simple as that. Now we're going to move to the toe piece

 We have a screw on the back of the heel piece and when we engage it we want it to be flush with the housing. Let's start by clicking that in and seeing where we end up. So we can clearly see the screw is sticking out too far which would indicate that the pressure is too loose. So we need to grab a Phillips head screwdriver and make clockwise rotations until that binding and screw it flush

 The Marker, however, uses a traditional pin binding toe that doesn't offer the downhill safety or performance of the Shift. The Shift MNC 13 is compatible with all norm boots on the market, offering the ability to use flat alpine, walk to ride, and ISO 9523 touring soles. My boots of choice are the Scarpa Freedom RS with a flex rating of 130. These too lean towards downhill performance

Shifting into downhill mode is very easy with these bindings, though it does require stepping completely out of the binding. I don't consider this a problem, as speed during transition isn't my highest priority

 It's a good idea to pivot the boots to clear any ice from the inserts. Lock the pins into place by pulling back hard on the front throw. I'm not very adept at positioning the pins accurately, and these bindings lack a convenient boot stop, such as that found on the G3 Ion or Marker King pin, so getting the pins engaged reliably can be a bit tricky. Once locked in, however, they provide a foolproof and secure fitting

 After mounting the Shift MNC 13s to a pair of Liberty Variant 97 skis, I was ready to put these bindings to the test. My evaluation consisted of five days in Aspen Snowmass with ample time skiing uphill and down to get a feel for the performance of these bindings. Between dawn control sessions with the dog, following my kids on green and blue groomers, and doing laps at Highlands Bowl, I experienced a variety of snow and terrain throughout the week. Setting up to tour is relatively easy with the Shift binding

 Without the budget or interest in maintaining a quiver of skis for all possible conditions, I was looking to create an all-mountain setup that would serve my particular style of skiing, which is 70% inbounds and 30% backcountry. With no intention of racing uphill or down, my primary objective was to achieve a well-balanced, all-purpose, affordable ski setup that was biased toward downhill performance, reliability, and varied conditions over lightweight, touring-specific, or powder-only use. After mounting the Shift MNC 13s to a pair of Liberty Variant 97 skis, I was ready to put these bindings to the test.
