My vote goes to the Salomon Stance 84. All-mountain ski that isn't too crazy wide underfoot. Performs WELL beyond its price point and construction.

I am an intermediate skier who is looking to purchase skis. Most of my skiing is on piste.  I am comfortable skiing all types of runs. I am looking for a good all-rounder that is easy to carve and turn. Suggestions, please.

Helping choosing skis

 You get the benefits of metal. You get that smooth feel, maybe not as much dampening as the wider skis, but still pretty good. It gives you that confident, inspiring, smooth feel. But they're a little more adaptable, a little quicker edge to edge, a little easier to control, and they're not as fatiguing either

 They're responsive, they have a performance oriented feel, but they're not too demanding. They aren't as tiring, they're not as fatiguing, as heavier skis, and they also both happen to be really, really fun in the moguls because of their shape, construction, and just overall responsiveness and quickness. Great ski. Very, very versatile all-mountain ski, maybe not the best in soft snow conditions at just 84 underfoot, but the shape will allow you to play around in some softer snow in some variable conditions

 Welcome to our 2022 ski test. Right here we've got the Salomon Stance 84. There's two new Stance skis for the 22 season, this and the narrower Stance 80. And essentially what Salomon did is they took the overall concept of the Stance 90 and 96 and kind of tweaked it into a slightly more affordable and slightly more approachable version and also a little narrower too at 84 underfoot

 It's definitely going to be aimed at your advanced to expert level skier, somebody who wants precision and performance in a stiff ski. It does take some work to get this thing up on edge because it is stiffer but once you are there it is planted, it is glued to the snow, you will not shake this ski. Lower speeds, less aggressive skiers are probably going to struggle with this ski but somebody who likes to ski fast and aggressive, they're going to love it

So it's a blend of having that dampness and stability underfoot with that metal and then the snap and energy and responsiveness of the carbon in the forebody and back here in the tail. Really it's all about blending that confidence and control in a carve turn with the lighter swing weight and more maneuverability of the lighter tips and tails. It's a really good way of building a ski

 This is a 177. It generates a 16 meter arc. It's definitely happy there. It doesn't really love the 25, 26, 30 meter turns, high speed stuff, but in that mid-range it really just is right at home

 And then we get their TIC frame. So in the Stance 90, 96102, they get the full metal treatment with the carbon flax cutouts. This one has metal underfoot and then carbon in the forebody and through the tail. It remains an extremely powerful and precise all-mountain option that’s perfectly happy in the hands of hard chargers at speed. Volkl did make some tweaks to the Titanal Frame construction: shorter skis now have less metal and are a little softer, while longer options are stronger with more metal. You also get the brand’s 3D Radius (also found in the Kendo below), which effectively gives the ski three different turn radii. In practice, it’s pretty impressive, and the M6 feels comfortable at everything from tight and quick turns to wide GS sweepers.

It’s a close call between the M6 and Nordica Enforcer above, and both are versatile, standout models. In parsing out the differences, the Mantra is noticeably wider at the tip (by 8mm), and its stiffer build gives it the advantage in terms of stability. But the Nordica is more comfortable in tight spaces with its nimble, easier-to-manage flex (this also makes it a better option for intermediate-level skiers). Both are excellent one-quiver options for riders that spend the majority of their time on groomers or in regions with moderate snowfall. 6'0 270lbs here. Volkl M6 Mantra 184 is what I ski, and before that I was on an older pair of Matra's. This is what you want, or something similarly stiff like a Nordica Enforcer etc.

I recently switched from boards to skiing again and am looking for a solid all mountain ski that will actually let me carve instead of just folding and sliding sideways.  I don't have much faith in the Amazon sponsored lists, and every manufacturer seems happy to say that their ski will work great, so I'm looking for real world info.

I am 6'3" and presently 260lbs and falling (down from 300).  I intend to reach a 230lb goal weight by next season.  I am mostly on 184 k2 poacher twin tips, but the whole twin thing isnt as fun as I had expected.  I have a worn out pair of 193 salomon xscreams that are old and shitty.  I ski midwest groomed/ice 95% of the time 2+ times a week with occasional real snowfall and 1-2 trips west.  I'd say I'm solid intermediate maybe a little advanced, sometimes I like to go 25-30mph according to gps.

I have been told to get skis with metal, and avoid the capped ones for ones with more rigid sidewalls.  Hoping to look late or off season because I just spent alot on proper boots.  Anyone have advice?

2023 Volkl M6 Mantra - Ski Review

 So we get tailored titanal frame and we get tailored carbon tip. Tailored titanal frame is pretty darn cool. Simply they took some metal out of the tip of the ski. So if you're to compare m5 mantra, m6 mantra the metal frame, especially just right in the end of the ski or only in right, in the end of the ski and in the tail as well

 Something that really kind of jumped out to me is. Is this morning we skied with uh, with a local local skier named christy who's who's, very, very good. At skiing racing background, she's been with vocal for a long time as like an athlete ambassador type position, she normally skis something like a 170 secret. I had her test the 177 m6 mantra this morning and watching her

 You know you're, probably going to take this ski off trail from time to time, just because, if you're choosing this width chances are you're going to be skiing, something other than just a groomer. So it's achieving that high level of carving performance, high level, precision and responsiveness and edge grip, while still being a relatively versatile ski. So all of that stuff carries over to this new mantra. They did a really good job of retaining what was already great about it, and to me that the highlighting characteristic of this ski has always been its precision

 So taking some swing weight out of the tip of the ski and what makes it tailored is it changes per length? So this is kind of similar to, or at least reminds me of what blizzard's doing with their true blend wood core. Basically, the the engineers at vocal are looking for ways to kind of custom, tweak the performance for each length of the ski, which i think is really cool and, and i think something that we'll probably see work its way into more and more brands in the ski Industry so take this 184 take the 184 and the 177 m6 mantra. This 184 has a longer thicker part of the metal. You know, essentially, the this portion is very similar, but this portion is longer and you know without measuring
