For many, looks and aerodynamics are key purchasing factors. If you want an ultra-thin rooftop tent that still houses a super comfy mattress, we recommend the Roofnest Falcon 2. At only 6" tall in travel mode, this model is about half the thickness of every other model in our review and is as easy as it gets when converting from travel to camp mode. Open a couple of latches, and let the hydraulic pistons do the rest. When it comes time to switch back to travel mode, the Falcon 2 only takes a few more seconds to fold up than the fastest models we've tested. While in camping mode, this tent has tons of storage, including several pockets around the tent, a large pocket array on the roof of the tent, and two boot bags that hang outside to keep your grubby shoes out of the sleeping area. It comes with dual USB-powered LED light strips that fully illuminate the whole tent when plugged into a power source. If you so choose, Roofnest has optional crossbars available so that you can store kayaks, paddle boards, or bicycles on top of the Falcon 2. 
Because of the slim profile, there is a lack of storage space while in travel mode with the Falcon 2. The tent shell barely fits the tent and mattress, so you really cannot leave anything inside while traveling other than maybe a summer sleeping bag and a couple of books. This model doesn't even have room for its own ladder, so make sure to consider where you're going to haul these things if you decide to go with this tent. Perhaps the biggest drawback to the Falcon 2 is the price tag. If you want a low-profile state-of-the-art rooftop tent, it will take its toll on your pocketbook.

 I wound up having to climb on top of the tent and put my weight on it to push it together. It's not a huge issue — after all, the ladder makes getting up there easy — but it's certainly not the most dignified method. (Roofnest's explainer video shows an employee shutting it from the ground with ease, suggesting that either my example was an aberration or the company only employs people with super-strength.)

It's well-made. Roofnest's line of tents (they make two others, in addition to the Falcon and Falcon XL) are pitched as premium products, and they certainly look and feel the part, from the sturdy exterior to the thick waterproof canvas skin to the shockingly comfortable memory foam mattress. Roofnest claims it’s able to handle storms and cold weather alike; of course, my night in it was a clear one in balmy July where temperatures barely dipped below 70, so I’ll have to take their word for it.

 Who knows? So I think that the rooftop tent is definitely worth it because you can go and start your adventures wherever you park. The number three reason why we believe the rooftop tent is definitely worth it is because of the extra cargo space that you will have with a rooftop tent being on top of your vehicle.  We have the Tough Stuff Alpha which is a hard shell rooftop tent and it can sweep up to four people.

 We are from Houston, Texas and we have traveled all throughout Texas as well as to the Texas Hill Country and all the way to Big Bend.

 There are so many reasons why I love our rooftop tent and today I'm going to give you our top five reasons on why a rooftop tent is definitely worth it.

 And I'm going to give you a couple extra reasons why towards the end so stay tuned.

 The number five reason on why I think the rooftop tent is worth it is because of the durability.

 A rooftop tent can handle all four seasons and it is constructed with coated denier canvas made to withstand the elements and can last for years with proper care.

 We have personal experience from when we traveled to West Texas a couple months ago and the whole trip we had about 30 miles an hour wind.

 Our rooftop tent was able to withstand all that wind. We traveled with some family and friends and they were planning on putting down their ground tent.

 Well they did put it down however it was so windy that they decided to take it down because they didn't want it to fly away because it was moving around too much.

 And then they ended up sleeping for the duration of the trip in their vehicle.

 So it's very nice having our rooftop tent be able to withstand all of that wind.

 So from our experience it doesn't matter where you live a rooftop tent can withstand all the elements.

 So I don't recommend camping in a hurricane or a river in my opinion.

 You don't have to worry about finding a good spot to set up your ground tent.

 Pretty much you park you put down your tent and you're good to go.

 Some sites maybe rocky muddy have uneven ground. Nobody wants to worry about that.

 That's why a four wheel drive vehicle is perfect for a rooftop tent because it can take you wherever you want and then you can set up and you're good to go.

 However please understand that we do not have a four wheel drive but it was still perfect.

 We were able to go wherever we wanted. We haven't been able to go to other places such as Utah or Colorado where you might need a four wheel drive.

 So I think that the rooftop tent is definitely worth it because you can go and start your adventures wherever you park.

 The number three reason why we believe the rooftop tent is definitely worth it is because of the extra cargo space that you will have with a rooftop tent being on top of your vehicle.

 So our Tough Stuff Alpha is able to fit four pillows at the back as well as a comforter or a sleeping bag in there and we're able to close the tent down and go on our way.

 And they all fit in there so you don't have to worry about putting that at the back of your vehicle.

 Which means that you can go and bring more fun camping necessities throughout your trip.

 So we're able to bring our cooler, our inflatable paddle board and kayak as well as our cooking gear that we're able to put in our chuck box that my husband made us.

 So with your tent being on top of your vehicle that means that you can bring more of your necessities like I mentioned before as well as more family, friends, your pets, whatever else you may want to bring.

 Reason number two on why we love our rooftop tent is because of the safety of being above ground.

 You don't have to worry about creepy crawlers climbing into your tent as well as wild animals.

 So just lions, bears, snakes, raccoons, whatever it may be. And down here in the south we have alligators as well as javelinas.

 Javelinas are pretty much these wild animals that look like boars, wild pigs.

 So we were sleeping and in the middle of the night we heard these animals ransacking our food.

 So it takes us with the Tough Stuff Alpha which again is a hard shell rooftop tent.

 It takes us about two minutes to set up as well as another two minutes to tear it down.

 Super fast. However I've heard that soft shell rooftop tents take just a few more minutes longer than that.

 We don't have experience since we've never had a soft shell rooftop tent but that's just from what I've heard.

 But I think both of those are definitely faster than a ground tent.

 We don't even have to air down an air mattress because the comfy foam mattress folds up on the inside.
