 Now for the good stuff, the buttons are great, the screen quality is great, and the attention to detail in replicating a gameboy is fantastic. I would buy this again but I would wait until they assembly process improved more. I will be giving this to my kid who could care less about the build quality and buying one for me six months to a year later when quality is more consistent. I always planned on buying two, I’m just going to wait on the second one now

 It is quite difficult to show this warping in a photo and may not cause a problem especially if you install the cartridge assembly and leave it in permanently. I received one of the first production run so quality and fit should improve over time, but the warping of the connection point will not until they thicken the plastic of the connector to improve rigidness and the d pad will rotate until they shrink the cutout or add an anti rotation notch. Now for the good stuff, the buttons are great, the screen quality is great, and the attention to detail in replicating a gameboy is fantastic. I would buy this again but I would wait until they assembly process improved more

 The fit and finish of the unit I got was off slightly. The factory installed case screws were stripped at the bottom edge and the photo shows the remaining uneven gap after forcing it closed. The unit was definitely hand assembled which is perfectly fine but may lead to fit issues and inconsistent quality. The on and off switch has slight clearance issues with the cartridge lock mechanism as well

Product may arrive damaged but it is still fun

Great Execution But Not Perfect... Still Highly Recommended!

 Of course there are exceptions but the games you play need to be suitable for the control system. We tested games for the Game Boy Advance, NES and PC Engine and found all of them performed well. While failing in many similar systems we found the game controls responsive and that's pretty much what you need isn't it?  You can power the G-Pi over USB but this can't be used to charge the device and you're limited by the length of the cable. While many emulators are supported games that rely on the D-Pad and two or four button controller layouts seem to be easier to use

 Note that the Pi Zero WH which ships with the GPIO pins is incompatible with this case unless you remove the pins with a soldering iron that is.   To end the story I packaged up all 3 GPi Cases I'd bought and sent them back. Honestly they are junk. All 3 had bent, warped, system boards. Not the cartridge part rather then System Board thats on the main case's connecter is totally warped from production

 Perhaps the second batch had a higher failure rate, but at this point I would not recommend this device until they can get their manufacturing process down. Unfortunately, Retroflag does not have a support email address and I've not had any response from their "sales" email address within 24 hours, so I'm left with only the option to return this defective device.  Update: It appears running the device for a few hours without the Pi cartridge installed resolved the lines issue and the whine. I've updated the review to 3 stars to reflect the fact that I love the device, but the build quality is low

 It's one of my favorite things in my possession right now. I mean, I've been using this a lot lately. The build quality is great. That's a pro

 You're in it for $80 plus a micro SD card. I'm using a 16 gigabyte micro SD card that didn't cost very much. So under a hundred dollars, you have an awesome little portable that's extremely customizable and there's not really that many cons. I mean, one con could be the compatibility using a Pi Zero W

 We don't care about that. It also came with a bunch of screws and then this really awesome dual-headed screwdriver. Oh, he's like the screwdrivers these guys have been giving lately. They've been pretty quality little screwdrivers instead of the little cheap ones that just are hard to use

The BEST New Retro Gaming Handheld - Retroflag GPi Case Review

 I will mention that the GPI case does not come with screws for the CM4, so you'll have to source your own. On my second device, I've gone with a smaller heatsink that doesn't obstruct the lid. I don't have screws yet for this case, so I'm keeping this in place with some folded pads. This seems to be a better mix between the two heatsinks, but the easier solution would be to just use some cheap mini heatsinks

 Most of the heat from this processor is radiating out through the screen and out from the top where your fingers won't be. I mentioned earlier that there is enough space here for a heatsink if you want one, but there are some things to consider. Right now, I have an 11mm heatsink installed inside my device and it fits without any problems, but the lid cannot close over this without some modification. I don't want to do that, so I'm still deciding if I want to keep this open or use a smaller heatsink
