My plan is to get an ebike for dropping of my toddler on the way to work and picking him up on the way back. Thus the bike needs to accommodate both a child and my work bags/panniers. 

I am torn between buying a cargo style ebike (ex. Rad Wagon) or a commuter bike (ex. RadCity) and attaching a cart (ex. Burley Bee)  to transport the toddler. Any ideas? Advice? Experience?

My thing is that the cargo bike are big, clumsy, hard to store and aren't versatile. What if I want to take my ebike on a long fun ride etc? I feel like having cart that can be attached gives me more choices.

All thoughts appreciated.

A cargo bike vs bike cart for commuting with a child

 But this is by design, according to CEO Mike Radenbaugh. After all, it’s not meant to replace your regular bike, it’s meant to replace your car. 

The RadWagon from Seattle-based Rad Power Bikes gets me most of the way there. This electric cargo bike is the first legitimate car replacement that I’ve encountered in my (admittedly) short time testing and reviewing e-bikes. The RadWagon mostly replaced my own need for a car for over a month of testing. I used it to take my kids to school, commute to work, and go grocery shopping

We have a family trip coming up in a few weeks and need to get an ebike asap that we can tow our burley on with 2 kids in the back. I need to be able to get it quickly and use it for this purpose. I need it to fit on a standard hitch bike rack as well.

After this trip my husband wants to commute to and from the train. There will be hills and about 6 miles each day.  

Removable battery would be key.

Overall, the Tern HSD P9 is a sturdy electric cargo bike that’s easy on the eyes and easy to stash away when needed. It’s highly adaptable and has a decently powerful drivetrain that shrinks most hills down to size. While I don’t think the HSD is for everybody, I do believe that it aspires to be easy and approachable enough that anyone can ride it. 

 What do you get for that extra cash? Easy storage is nice, but most of that cost is for the Bosch mid-drive motor. The German company arguably makes one of the most reliable and dependable systems in the world — and that comes at a price. 

The best measure of an electric bike is how easily it slots into your everyday life. By that metric, the Tern HSD P9 is one of the better ones I’ve tested. 

I find myself torn over the value proposition of the Tern HSD. It’s a smaller, lighter cargo bike than most, which is certainly an advantage, and yet, it costs noticeably more than other, more powerful cargo bikes. What do you get for that extra cash? Easy storage is nice, but most of that cost is for the Bosch mid-drive motor. The German company arguably makes one of the most reliable and dependable systems in the world — and that comes at a price

A midtail cargo bike for the whole family

  The service at REI is exceptional.  It's cost is more, but you get your monies worth in the design, build and handling. I'm always stopped by others who want to know about it and where to purchase one.  Great bike

 I am 87 and have ridden a bike all my life. Now I can ride 9 to 10 miles a day up hill, in strong wind, anywhere I want to go.  The service at REI is exceptional.  It's cost is more, but you get your monies worth in the design, build and handling
