Tern HSD P9 would be the choice if you want the ability fold down the seat and handlebars to carry in the back of an SUV or station wagon with the car seat folded down, without needing to carry the bike on a car rack. Gazelle Ultimate C380 HMB has a Gates belt drive and Enviolo CVT hub, the big advantage would be the ability to shift gear when stationary vs both Tern HSD P9 models use a derailleur.

Overall, the Tern HSD P9 is a sturdy electric cargo bike that’s easy on the eyes and easy to stash away when needed. It’s highly adaptable and has a decently powerful drivetrain that shrinks most hills down to size. While I don’t think the HSD is for everybody, I do believe that it aspires to be easy and approachable enough that anyone can ride it

Had you asked for the comparison to be an R&M Multicharger, I would have said the Tern HSD line. I'm not sure, but I would look at some of the European brands like Cube. R&M's are overbuilt and are super customizable, making them hard to compare.

In my book, a Tern HSD S8i with a couple of large panniers is a perfect fit for your needs. I also concur with the other poster in this thread on looking into some type of cover/bag to seal your bike up not only for keeping it safe from weather/road conditions but also away from prying eyes.

Tern HSD is great for adjusting between different-size riders, hauling kids and stuff, and just being a great, fun, dependable bike.

The catch is, it's quite a bit more expensive than the figure you mentioned.

I have an HSD (Haul Shit Daily) and love it! Its perfect for trips to the grocery store or hauling a kid. They support a ton of weight and Tern has dozens of options for racks, baskets, child seats, etc. to make it fit what you need.
