It's pretty good and indeed I reached out to QSP They said sure we'd happy we'd be happy to send you one of us always I told them to talk about the good the great the Bad the ugly might be a gem might be junk. They still did send it along nonetheless We have to assume this is the very best quality controlled one of these guys ever and I'm doing my best not to let that Effect the nature of my review next thing size comparison This is actually a moderately sized knife at least by my standards I'm here it is against the Ontario rat number two another good budget folder in D2 steel Um, well at least this one's in D2 here

 It's right on the edge of gem, right? This fit my hand just a little bit better. I think it could go over there But even as now I I will very easily concede It's a well-made utility cutter in my car and d2 steel and even in 2020 where with that That's getting less important or i'm sorry less impressive by the moment where the value just keeps there's a race to the bottom Among a lot of these chinese brands, which I think in some ways is benefiting consumers at least over here for the moment You know, but nonetheless, um, it is definitely worth acknowledging that this is doing everything right, right? So, um at the end of the day I guess my final conclusion here is that if you're looking for a 35 dollar knife and this appeals to you in any way shape Or form then go for it. It's an absolutely solid piece And uh, no doubt this will be good. So if you're looking for it an expensive piece Uh, well you will find this little penguin is probably worth your waddle

 Oh my god. So we'll go to conclusions here conclusion You know what? It's 35 bucks, right? Uh, it's a solid budget piece I mean, it's got nice micarta ambi layout for most things a smooth action a nice blade and a price that is Well 35 bucks and it's a price at which these knives become a lot more accessible to a lot of folks out there You know, I tend to spend a lot of my time on the channel looking at higher end pieces look at it You know, oh a million dollar, you know 675 but you know There is a really good joy to having something that is accessible to a large part of the audience, right? And to a large part of the knife world There were a lot of folks for whom you know 400 bucks is simply off the table like no absolutely not But where 35 bucks is something that you could definitely look around for and this is a one of those things, right? The sharpening choil, like I said, it's a little off the screws are a little weird inside the clip there And it all feels a little lazy and the handle is a little bit kind of ergonomically weird I guess for lack of better term, but you know what 35 bucks? Okay, whatever And the thing is there are increasing numbers of knives available at this price point, right? I mean it used to be that 35 bucks was just like whoa amazing But no nowadays a lot of companies are starting to do that. I mean and even coming in lower than that You know crkt has got entries. You've got things from uh, rake roikey, whatever you want to pronounce it You've got all kinds of civivi is coming in in that range even gerber is coming in on there, you know And you've got a bunch of options in that area, but this is this is a solid one Everything here is working just fine

 This is the QSP knives penguin. Um first off though

 Well QSP has a neat camp fiery logo thing going on there. They are a relatively new Chinese company

 Um, but they do have a reasonable American distributorship

 And so that's a it's a nice thing and they've been really focusing on putting out some budget focused pieces lately

 Uh, let's go on ahead and jump into the good the great the bad the ugly of this very interesting little piece right here

 So the good side to start with um, I do like the scale material here

 This appears to be a denim style micarta, which is quite literally just a denim

 And in fact, if I i'm just gonna wet my finger here with a little bit of rubbing alcohol

 And that'll kind of let you see yeah, if you get this wet

 It genuinely it looks like freaking blue jeans or something like that. And in fact as it will over time

 Accumulate oil just from natural use in your hand, etc

 So, um, honestly, it's it's kind of a cool look

 And I think the micarta here is maybe a little bit better than what we see on a lot of lower end Chinese pieces lately

 Um, and so I you know that that's nice. It's a nice little detail when it is something

 I very much appreciate next thing this guy has an ambidextrous clip and uh thumb studs

 So uh, the the clip itself is actually interesting in that it isn't uh screwing into the outside of the scales instead

 So what we see here is that I mean it is screwing into the outside of the scales

 But there are these two little holes on the top here and depending on which you can unscrew these screws

 And then drop it in the hole on the other side

 I don't know that it's offering you a whole lot and I got to be honest here the the benefits of having that

 Completely flush underneath there are kind of lost by having screws sticking up in there

 If they countersunk those screws, then this would be perfectly flat along the scale. That would be interesting as it stands though

 It's different. Is it majorly different? No, not really, but it is a cool thing

 It's nice to see him playing around a little bit with the design space, right?

 Um, and like I said ambidextrous studs mean that although this guy is still a line lock and is still designed for righties

 So to speak, um, this is going to be more ambi-friendly than most next thing

 This guy has some polished liners to it. Um, you know is the polish. Oh my god. No, not necessarily

 But you know what? It's quite good enough. Um, and it adds a little bit of something to it

 I feel like it adds something and frankly the blade itself is a reasonably nice polish on it

 So that's good. Next thing the action on this guy is actually relatively smooth

 Um, after disassembly it is it's a smooth action and you know what? It's a reliable that can it deploys very easily

 Um can't argue with that there and then finally on the bad side the uh, i'm sorry finally on the good side

 That is the blade on this guy is nice. It is a d2 steel

 Um, and d2 is of course one of those steels that is becoming increasingly sort of the default out of chinese

 Small chinese brands and that's you know, frankly

 I would say a good thing a lot of folks aren't gonna like the lack of stainlessness that it exhibits relative to
