 Pretty much all of my vinyl that's in good condition gives a sonic experience that is as good as or better than a good streaming source (Tidal Hifi or Spotify Premium high quality) for the most part. I could probably spend another grand to upgrade the turntable to something like a Pro-Ject X1 and get a bit more dynamic range/less noise because of the improved bearing setup for the platter and the better tonearm.

I'm 6 months into this hobby.  Purchased a Fluance RT81 ($250) and a pair of Edifier 1280 speakers ($100).  The sound is OK, but streaming Spotify to my Sonos/Ikea Symfonisk speakers ($200) still sounds better in most cases. 

Any advice on what price point I would need to get Vinyl sound that surpasses that of my streaming speakers?  My $350 system isn't getting me the sound quality I want, though i realize its on the low end of the price spectrum.

Also, should I be paying more for the turntable, or the speakers?

What price level of turntable+ speakers does it take to actually sound better than streaming?

Pro-Ject X1 ( pick it 2S MM ). The versatility and upgradability of the NR1200 is amazing and it sounds pretty decent too! Practically a Swiss knife 😁. Further down the line would add a Yamaha A-S1200 ( or similar ) for amplification and phono stage, would use the NR1200 as preamp.

 Hello there and welcome to the Onuclear Channel. Today I wanted to discuss a turntable, namely

 the Project X1. I've had it for about a year. I enjoy it immensely. It was released about

 the same time, well, probably exactly the same time, as the X2. Both models share a

 very substantial, heavy, and beautifully finished plith, an acrylic platter, and aluminum feet

 flat on the bottom, very easy to adjust, very simple, elegant, and well-designed. Handmade,

 audiophile level, both tables comparable in quality. Just the X2 is heavier, larger, a

 little bit more stable, but nevertheless both of a very similar quality. I wanted to focus

 on the X1 though because I feel like it's a great value. For $500 less than the X2,

 you get such a high quality design and performance. It is virtually silent when you play your

 music. You hear your music, not the sound of the mechanics of your table. Previous tables

 I have heard, I had one expression for a number of years, and I found that table to be lovely,

 but much noisier, possible grounding issues, hum, things that I do not hear with this table.

 It might have been inherent to my space, possibly not necessarily the design of the table, but

 nevertheless I noticed these things. And when I hooked up the X1, in the same environment,

 same components, same place, everything the same, did not have any of those issues. So

 that kind of ruled out other possible factors and just made me believe that this particular

 design is just a quieter design. Whatever the engineers did, I think internally they

 probably changed location of some of the components, maybe some things are better isolated. Whatever

 they did, they did it right. It is a virtually seamless and silent sounding, beautiful table.

 So I wanted to focus on that. One other thing about the X1 which makes it a great value

 is its adaptability. If you choose the X1, it comes outfitted with a Renier Sumiko cartridge

 in most markets. They might have upgraded to another level. There are three levels of

 the Sumiko. It might come with the next level up from the entry level. I am not sure. Regardless

 of that fact, the fact that you have three levels, you can upgrade without replacing

 the body. The cartridge being made up of a body and the stylus, you only have to replace

 the stylus if you decide to upgrade, which is relatively inexpensive. So of course we

 have to remember that with the X2, you might get a higher level cartridge, but you are

 paying for that. In this case, you can slowly upgrade and modify as you go along. There

 is also a fourth level cartridge, the Amethyst. The Amethyst does require you to replace the

 entire assembly. It is a different body. So in that case, you do have to spend more money,

 but the first three levels, very reasonable. So that adaptability factor also makes it

 a very appealing choice. So those are the things I wanted to focus on. A very elegant

 simple design. It does one thing. It plays a record. There are no extras. There are no

 fancy automatic extra features. It just plays your music the way it is intended to be played

 and the way it sounds. From your audio source, that is what you are hearing. You are not

 hearing anything else. You are not getting anything else other than a simple, direct,

 elegant, well made table from Project. The X1, highly recommended. And thank you today
