After using an air fryer for a while to make french fries (um limp buggers I might say), I decided to buy the GranPappy based on price and reviews. I love the air fryer for chicken tenders, tater tots, etc. but it does not make crispy homemade fries (even though they say they do). I did not want to spend alot of money on a stainless steel fryer, which I had previously for many years until it died

 I do agree with the other reviewers that the plastic scoop that comes with the GranPappy is useless, I use a wooden-handled spider.  Cleaning has been simple, dump the oil, wipe out the inside with paper towel, cover or add new oil and you're good to go! If you're tired of cleaning stainless steel fryers or just want a "no-frills fryer that works" I recommend the GranPappy. It's simple but does a great job! Sometimes simplicity is the best.

Simple, But Does the Job--Crispy, Fluffy Homemade Fries!

Our old Presto GranPappy, which we had for over 30 years, finally needed to be replaced, so we purchased a new Presto GranPappy. But when the new one was delivered, we found that the new one is very different from the old one.  (1) The new one is visibly smaller than the old one. We had expected it to be the same size

 (2) The lid that comes with the new one is cheap plastic, rather than glass and metal like the old one. (3) The new one does not have an adjustable temperature control like the old one; it simply plugs in. (4) The scoop provided with the new one is cheap plastic, rather than stainless steel like the old one. (5) The new one has no basket to place items in so you can lower them into, and raise them out of, the hot oil

A Disappointing Replacement

Photo for size comparison-I have nothing against the Fry Daddy or Grandpappy, other than it has a limited amount of oil you're allowed to put in. Once receiving the product I realized this, did not know this beforehand. My main purpose was to purchase this to deep fry homemade corn dogs. Unfortunately, the way the product works is, to keep the oil evenly temperatureized you can only fill it so far, which is only about 3 in up from the bottom

This electric deep-fryer made food that was almost always perfect, and in the same time and number of batches as our Dutch oven. Its large basket held lots of food and made it easy to lower and lift that food during use; its high walls and lid contained messes nicely. And while we didn't love cleaning its many parts, a built-in filter and handy oil storage container made the process a bit easier than with other models. One caveat: Like the other fryers, its temperature range maxes out around 374 degrees, so it can't quite fry quick-cooking, high-heat foods such as tempura as nicely as a Dutch oven can.

 Whether T-fal or any other one is find some way to get the unit's underneath your vent to it. The reason for that is when you fried food, there's all kinds of steam and grease. It's going to be released into the air and it's going to get all over the walls. It's going to get all over your cabinets, It's going to get all over the ceiling, and then your wife is going to get all over you if you don't want that

 They've been using it for over a year, so I'm gonna say the TfL has very good reliability. Okay, the best piece of advice I can give anyone for using a fryer at home. Whether T-fal or any other one is find some way to get the unit's underneath your vent to it. The reason for that is when you fried food, there's all kinds of steam and grease

 So I really like the thermostat. The other thing that I like a lot, is the oil filtration feature. You can flip this dial back and forth and the oil in the hopper after you fried food will drain through a filter, filter out all those particles and all that mess, and allow the oil to be captured down in this hopper and be clean and the usable for the next time you want to fry. So I really like the oil filtration feature

 And after a big day like today, that's a good time to go ahead and just change out your oil. Okay for a brief recap today, we've taken a second look at the TfL Easy Clean semi pro fryer. We initially reviewed it over a year ago and I like the unit at that time after a year of pretty heavy usage I Still like the unit I've had no mechanical issues with it so I'm gonna say it's very reliable unit. The things I like about it the most or the adjustable thermostat just put it on whatever temperature you want, don't worry about it
