Presto 05411 vs Presto 05461

After using an air fryer for a while to make french fries (um limp buggers I might say), I decided to buy the GranPappy based on price and reviews. I love the air fryer for chicken tenders, tater tots, etc. but it does not make crispy homemade fries (even though they say they do). I did not want to spend alot of money on a stainless steel fryer, which I had previously for many years until it died

The price is great for such great performance. I bought this when there were no reviews at all, so I wasn't sure how it would turn out, but I am very glad that I picked this one. Cooking capacity is perfect and performance is excellent. I bought my mom the same one and she loves hers too

Our old Presto GranPappy, which we had for over 30 years, finally needed to be replaced, so we purchased a new Presto GranPappy. But when the new one was delivered, we found that the new one is very different from the old one. (1) The new one is visibly smaller than the old one. We had expected it to be the same size

Unfortunately, the way the product works is, to keep the oil evenly temperatureized you can only fill it so far, which is only about 3 in up from the bottom

No big deal but good to be aware of it when lifting. Biggest advantage of this type of fryer is obviously the separate oil pot which allows for best cleaning. There are some sharpish edges on the pot to contend with when lifting the pot from the main body.

It's the difference between using a "professional" fryer, as opposed to "something that works." I wouldn't tout this as a fryer that can handle 4-5 portions, but 1-2? Absolutely. It can put out a couple of orders of fries, falafels, etc., if your key temp is around 350F

frying needs specific temps, so...? As you might guess it is difficult to keep temp spot on like this

It disassembled pretty well for cleaning but some of the dirtiest parts of the fryer are not water prof and are much harder to wash as they can't be submerged. I also feel it heats up very slowly and my oil burnt after one use even though past fryers have had oil remain good for multiple uses. The temoerature doesn't get as Hugh as some other fryers. This one doesn't even go to 400 and the reccomended frying temoerature of some foods is 390 so it's hard ti get those right
