Years ago, I had Pioneer head units in my vehicles, so I knew them for their quality back then.  I purchased this drive primarily for reading a bunch of my existing Blu-Rays and DVDs. In total, I've probably had it read over 100 various discs so far, and I've only had it not work once on a DVD that had a lot of scratches

 CyberLink has been COMPLETELY unresponsive. The account registration process does not work (does not send the confirmation emails for account setup or download info). Works great! I’ve been burning out hours and hours of family home videos into Blu-Ray, and they play great on my tv blu-ray player... Although I had to purchase burning software from a third party

Is the Pioneer really Mac compatible? While one can certainly play DVDs or Blu-ray disks using Apple’s preinstalled DVD player. However, the Cyberlink software is not compatible for ripping. Thus, in addition to the cost of the player, the purchaser will need to shell out for more software.

Item was listed as new; what I received had definitely been opened and, not what I would consider as being new. Outer packaging (box) was not sealed, inner plastic packaging/bag & tape was ripped. USB data cable was missing and CyberLink software download code looked like it had been torn off. Also, instruction manual looked like it had very small food or sauce specks on it; not only not new but, rather disgusting

Sony BDP-S1700 Blu-ray and DVD Player

Small, inexpensive, Plays Discs, However, Sound quality for a blue ray player is so-so. Sound Crackles and skips on regular intervals for some reason unknown. I have a Toshiba and PS3 I've been playing discs on that play them better than this player. Sorry, but, I would recommend a more expensive player

 Also, the remote and batteries were just dropped inside the box - not packed in anything. My remote was ok, but heavy handling during shipping might be problematic. Setup was easy - just follow the directions, hook it up to the internet, and wait about 10 minutes for it to update, and away you go. The only major complaint about the unit is that when playing a DVD, the "auto" setting for audio default to playing the music tracks on DVDs - this can be remedied by going to "options", then scrolling down to "audio"

 - but my TV has an integral Roku so I don't need the extra apps - but this was less expensive than the next blu-ray player, which just makes this a little more versatile. Note that it is wired (not wireless) and it comes only with a remote and batteries - no HDMI cable, no ethernet cable, so you'll need to pick them up as well. Good Blu-Ray Player for the price

 Then I contacted Amazon about an A-Z guarantee return which the Amazon representative said they did even got an email confirming this. Today I called Amazon to see where the refund is and I am told it does not qualify for an A-Z refund as it is outside the 90-day window! Looks like to me if Amazon read these reviews they would see a defective player is being sold and should refund all of us by pulling it out of these deceptive seller’s account. So no now I will be eating the $60.15 I spent of this hunk of junk! There is only three months left on the Sony warranty and I doubt they will have their 800 number up or chat working! I will not purchase another Sony product or electronic products off of Amazon again
