Only lasted a year

 It comes in two thin lead sizes, so if you were looking for detail work the Aren's array of pencils but then that includes the Aren's Nero as well would be something that you'd want to check out. We have strong pocket clip, excellent grip, and I mentioned that we have the ribbed metal sort of situation going on there. Great design, quality eraser. Okay, lots to love about this pencil

Pentel Orenz Nero Mechanical Pencil Review

 I tended to get lighter markings from the lead, and small indentations from the pipe on either side of the lead. The writing experience was actually smoother for me than a traditional pencil, but I didn't care for it. It felt less precise, since I was getting less tactile feedback from the paper, but I don't think this had an actual effect on the quality of my penmanship. It's worth noting that I write with a fairly shallow angle, so that may have been part of the issue

 Personally, I found that the slightly thinner grip of the Orenznero was less comfortable over time. Even the Kurutoga was too thin for longer sessions, so I slide a rubber pencil grip I've had for over a decade over the stock one. This configuration certainly won't win on aesthetics, but it's gripper and more comfortable than either pencil is stock.  In terms of bang for buck, the Orenznero currently costs $24

Nice look and feel, but not for me

As mechanical pencils go, this a great addition to Pentel’s historic line.  First of all, let me say that the grip is one of the best Ike ever used, very comfortable. The weight is good and the look is superb.  My only complaints are, the clip is small and feels fragile, I like the original Pentel P-200 clips best

The headline says it all. If you want what is possibly the heaviest mechanical pencil on the market, then this is for you. The build is extremely sturdy and the weight of the pencil gives your writing a lot of impact with little effort. Potential buyers be forewarned, this is a rather expensive product and there are reviews of this pencil breaking within a short time frame, so your mileage will vary

\- Black color only Rapid Pro. \- Rotring 300 (but all other sizes of 300 got discontinued). So no more 600 or 800 in 2mm, nor silver Rapid Pro 2mm. At this point there’s only quickly diminishing remaining stock (and inflated resale on eBay) or second-hand for those models

Does anyone know what is happening with these? I can't find one anywhere (none in stock or any dates on availability) and I am getting concerned I might have missed out on the chance to own one. I have a couple different ones including the rapid pro but am set on the 800 2mm for whatever reason

But what I don't like about the Rotrings is that the grips are too small for me (Except Rapid Pro, Rapid and Tikky). I like series like Graphgear more in this regard.

 There's a lead cushioning mechanism which slides the lead back a little under pressure and returns it. I find this system to be a bit too soft and easy to trigger.  This pencil has a retractable 4 mm sleeve. I find the "retractability" somewhat disappointing

 I want the length of the sleeve to be consistent, and I want it to be rigid so that it doesn't slide up when I use the pencil at an angle and rotate to use a sharp side of the tip. It makes use with fine edge rulers not as easy as I would have hoped, either. I don't understand why they even bothered with the drafting tip at all.  One final point I have concerns the titular "red ring" between the barrel and the grip

 The length of the forward conical section past the grip is acceptable, keeping the view of the sleeve unobstructed, but the forefingers close enough to the paper. Up top, the aforementioned clip is affixed tightly on there, and is very tough to remove. It's not going to rotate or come off easily, which I consider a plus for my usage. The clip presses tightly to the body at the end

 There's no lead hardness indicator up top or anywhere else like the 600/800, or most drafting pencils, so keep that in mind. The eraser cap comes off with ease, but I haven't had any issues with it coming off on it's own. There's a little play between the edges of the cap and the body, but there is no rattling during writing. The top of the cap is open, revealing the eraser

 It was almost as though the tube's width suddenly expanded -- even though when I received the pencil, the fit was perfectly snug. I'm glad I noticed the looseness before losing the eraser cap altogether. Another drawback is that the pencil seems to take a lot less lead in storage than some of the others I own (such as my Zebra M-models, which hold nearly a dozen extra leads). For this pencil, trying to fit more than 2-3 extra leads in the reservoir jams them up in the inner tube, so it doesn't seem like this would be a particularly great pencil for long travels

 Another drawback is that the pencil seems to take a lot less lead in storage than some of the others I own (such as my Zebra M-models, which hold nearly a dozen extra leads). For this pencil, trying to fit more than 2-3 extra leads in the reservoir jams them up in the inner tube, so it doesn't seem like this would be a particularly great pencil for long travels.

 But just yesterday, I noticed that the metal tube covering the eraser was loose, and for no apparent reason; It wasn't broken or bent in any way. I had to put a bit of sticky wax on the inside of it and slide it back down over the eraser top in order for it to stay put. It was almost as though the tube's width suddenly expanded -- even though when I received the pencil, the fit was perfectly snug. I'm glad I noticed the looseness before losing the eraser cap altogether
