I've been researching the Iron Ranger for months and finally pulled the trigger.  I am disappointed in the quality control.  The upper of the left boot is stitched 1/8'' off center comparable to the right boot.  To be clear, these are not supposed to be factory seconds, but that's what they seem to be

  The difference isn't really visible out of the box, but when I put them on and looked down its obvious they are not symmetrical. I think IRs are still boots I'd like to own, so I've re-ordered and hope the next pair are "paired" better.  Unfortunately, that means time and effort to re-order and exchange, as well as delayed receipt of the product for at least another week (apparently on back-order).  3 stars for poor quality control and the hassle

When I first put on these boots, I was a little worried because there was a lot more volume than I anticipated. The instep is definitely higher than what I am used to seeing in brands like Red Wing, RM Williams, Blundstone, and many UK manufacturers; so my foot was really swimming around in there when I tried them on. However, the length was perfect for me and I knew that I would regret going a half-size down because my toes would rub on the tapered toebox. I ultimately decided to put a thin leather Saphir insole into the boots to make up the volume and they fit perfectly

 I was hoping for more give/molding to the footbed but it didn't go as planned. I ended up just taking an insole out of an existing pair of shoes and using that. The insole wasn't very thick but it added some cushion underneath the ball of my feet and some arch support. I didn't necessarily want the arch support but I did want some cushion to ease the hot spots under my foot (ball of feet and under my heel)

 I'm not sure I like the insoles yet. The SuperFeet insoles raise my heel up more than the generic insole I was using before, however I don't feel the same heel-rub. It doesn't feel like it'll be an issue with these insoles. My heel feels nice and snug against the boot

 I'm too lazy to go out and try them on in a store, so I bit the bullet and bought a 7.5; I wear an 8 in running shoes (Adidas, Reebok, Saucony, Asics), 7.5 in Vans, 7 in Converse All Stars. It seemed that the reviews were split 50/50 between a half size down to a full size down

 I consider them more fashion forward. However, I was surprised at how much heritage there is with Red Wing; I had no idea.  I've already gotten a few compliments on them. They look great

 Bearing in mind how long they're reputed to last, how Red Wing will resole them for you to yield additional years of life... Well, it feels like it could just be the beginning of something special

Get fitted in a store before ordering online, as others have suggested; turns out I needed a full size down as opposed to half, resulting in unnecessary exchanges.  Initial impressions (few days)- gorgeous, handcrafted details, thick, durable leather, tough-as-nails outer sole and strong hardware. The break-in has been absolutely brutal; three days in, I had to give them a break after my heels blistered, burst and bruised. My feet are flatter and more gnarled than the average pair, but you can likely anticipate a similar experience if correctly sized

First, I heavily researched a pair of new boots tirelessly for months. My primary goals for the boots I wanted were to be leather, hard wearing, but also be able to be worn with semi-dress clothes as I work in an office environment. I also wanted to be able to wear them outdoors to do light work or in my garage-shop. They needed to be a very versatile and good looking boot

 I saw a lot of comments on how hard they were to break in. Don't expect them to be fully comfy out of the box or wear like a sneaker. Set your expectations that these are leather boots with a goodyear welt construction. They did require break in but I wouldn't say they were super hard to get broken in

 I looked on amazon and found a much better price so I got the size 10, one size down.  Second, these are real men's leather boots. I saw a lot of comments on how hard they were to break in. Don't expect them to be fully comfy out of the box or wear like a sneaker

 The material seems to be of very good quality as well. That's why I went with 2 stars instead of 1. I will remain hopeful that these boots will get better, but after 6+ weeks I am doubtful enough to write a review. I will try to remember to update if the situation improves
