My favorite all use shorts are Outlier New Way shorts, literally the only shorts I own now and i've worn them for 4 years now with little to no visible wear. They just released a 5.5" inseam option as well that I just sprung for to replace my old ones (I love shorter shorts). That being said they are pricey, but worth it IMO for the durability and versatility

I'm giving this a no in the recommendation for that reason, but if you're ok or are willing to risk it to see if yours lasts longer, then that would change my recommendation to a yes

(I also found the sandstorm colour much lighter on the website than in reality, but I actually prefer it that way). They're still nice shorts don't get me wrong, but I was specifically looking for something light-weight(ish) that would work in the water and for hiking, and the extra weight certainly doesn't help with either of those things (I've noticed these pair to get warm with even a small amount of physical exertion).

I really appreciate how lightweight these are. The protection-to-weight ratio is outstanding as it feels like you’re wearing nothing. I’d put these in a similar category to the Patagonia Airshed Pro Pullover in that you can put them on and leave them on in delightful comfort. The added stretch of the inner-leg panels makes running even more comfortable

Great design, with double-pockets on the sides with secure elastic bands holding them close. Perfect for a long run or a race or a trail run, when you need a fair amount of gels, lip balm, map, etc., and you need to get at it without difficulty. There's also a waterproof rear zippered pocket to hold keys and a credit card or cash
