 I see something concerning the claims the older Shield models are somehow better than the 2019 Shield TV Pro. I own the oldest and the newest Shields and side by side you can't compare the picture quality or the sound. I put away my older Shield because of the lack Dolby Vision and better audio formats Amazon Prime and Netflix both support the previous Shield models lack. Another issue with older Shields is the poor quality remote prone to random disconnects or flat out dying and I replaced 3 last generation remotes myself

The 2019 Shield has a far superior remote that lights up when touched and if misplaced can be found by basically calling out for it to beep.

Almost perfect but not without important flaws you need to know before buying.

  I used an Ethernet cable for my original Shield, but with the new one I tried to use WiFi because I didn't want to run another cable. However I soon discovered that every 20 minutes or so my entire WiFi network would go down, disconnecting everything on the network, and then come back up by itself within a minute or so.  After searching for the problem on the internet I discovered this has been an ongoing problem beginning with the 2017 model, and unfortunately if it occurs there is no solution other than to use a wired connection, or try to buy a router that might work with it.  It appears it happens most frequently with ASUS routers, but it's really dependent upon the chipset a router uses, as well as the local WiFi environment, so others are affected as well

  ORIGINAL REVIEW: Now that I have my TV and AVR set up correctly the Shield Pro 2019 is awesome!  All of the apps work great, even Kodi with HD audio passthrough. The only thing that wasn't available in the Play Store was AT&T TV Now, but working APKs can be downloaded from XDA Developers. Just google for "The Ultimate DIRECTV NOW and FIRE TV APK Repository" and you'll find it quite easily.  The only caveat is that since HDR is still relatively new it can be difficult to set up your TV and AVR correctly for HDR, even for an embedded systems engineer with decades of experience like me

  So if you plan on using a wired connection it's awesome, but if you want to use WiFi you could be in for a world of hurt. Therefore I lowered my rating from 5 stars to 3. I have a Sony A80J, Nvidia Shield TV Pro, PS5, Definitive Technology Mythos 4 fronts, Mythos 3 Center, Cube 3 Sub and Pro 1000 Rears 5.1 plus 2 outdoor speakers on A/B switching.

 My sound stopped working, checked sound settings (turned off surround sound), rebooted, factory reset, but could not get sound back. Tried support forums no one had a permanent fix, and tried chat support but gave up after waiting 30 minutes.  Just seems like i should not have these kind of simple problems that require more than 30 minutes of troubleshooting for a premium device. I'd call myself an intermediate user i can fix most simple issues like this

 - remote is cool i like how it has accelerometer to turn on backlight right when u pick it up. It should have headphone jack though even if that could increase size.

 When i tried to cast from my phone my phone gave an error message that said device could not be confirmed and to check for updates. Chromecast was up to date, no new updates available as of 07.20.22 - Sound cut out

 Sooooo we left the cube plugged in for me and this for my husband but then when I would hit the home button on the fire cube remote to switch inputs and go to the cube the shield would then overwrite the command and switch back to the shield. It was so annoying. I just unplugged the shield. We haven't even used it in about a month

 We have a family premium account and are able to easily switch back and forth on profiles on our fire cube but on this you have to completely log out and log in a new user account each time. That's kind of a deal breaker for me but not for my husband.  At the time of this writing, it is selling for the absurdly high price of $50. I’m not sure if this is the regular price, or supply shortages have driven it higher, but I found a 3D printed stand on eBay for $8 that works just fine. Don’t get price gouged over a little hunk of plastic.

 The detail and sharpness of image doesn’t even compare.  This was my first experience with android tv, and I find myself really liking it. I’ve used Apple TV, Roku, fire tv, and this just may be my favorite OS on a streaming box.  Remote…the giant Netflix button is the only real con here

I was attracted to the shield pro for 3 reasons, it’s wide audio/video codec and container support, gigabit Ethernet port, and the AI upscale.  I have a plex media server running on a synology nas. The nas is not powerful enough to transcode in real time, so direct play compatibility with a wide variety of media sources was a must for me. The shield pro performs well in that regard
