I have recently purchased the north face borealis and can recommend it. It carries a 15" laptop plus all accesories i might need; the back plate provides good ventilation as well.

I'm looking for a backpack that can

* fit a 15 inch laptop
* protects from heavy rain
* about 20-30L

Specifically I'm looking at Fjallraven's offerings such as the Kanken 17 or Ulvo 23

and Patagonia's offerings such as the Stand up Pack, Blackhole or the Tres Pack

which would you recommend?  
Im also worried about abrasive straps that might damage clothing

it seems Patagonia has good replacement policies?  


I saw the Ulvo and Kanken in person and they felt legit.  although they seem to scuff really easily (wipeable but seems like you need to wipe it often)

 Now, let's get up to the compartments, the borealis features a bungee cord system at the front, which is ideal for lashing on gear or putting in a jacket or a hat or some gloves anything that you need really quick access to. It is secured by this drawstring closure, which means that you can really tighten things up against the bag, or you can also stretch it out to fit bigger things as well, all all the loops for the bungee cord system. There is reflective detailing and the top there is a fleece liner, zippered compartment which goes down to about here and is good for a phone or some glasses. The next compartment is the organization compartment

 There's a little whistle so I'm gonna just blow it. Okay right there. So it has a whistle so this is great for like hiking if you're just like lost or you just want to blow your whistle outside. You can't just like throw stuff inside I prefer to have a clamshell where you know opens up and you can see everything that you're packing

Um certainly people in it that that like you know my preparation profession that would turn up to to events. A lot of them were carrying the North Face Borealis so I started to research into it. I started to try and work out what made this bag special

I wasn't sure if the issue had to do with torso length or something else. If you've owned one have you had issues or not?

I currently have a North face borealis classic backpack, it's roughly 4 years old, and am finding it too small for day to day use with work. 

Just wanted to see what people opinions are of these two bags and which one is better? 

 You know the easiest task and I'll tell you, most backpacks come with a tripod carry on side and I'm very against that because I'm just thinking that it's not practical. You know, with your bag and the time it might, you know it's just not. I don't like that. You know I want to have it either in the middle, up here or down

This is the brand new The North Face Borealis backpack. This is the 2021 edition and the cool thing are these compression straps at the bottom of the backpack. so let's get into it. [Music] I got me this backpack because of my ever going on struggle with you know, finding a backpack that could support me with carrying a tripod around

 That will do everything that you need, so this first of all, is sort of supported by the AAC, which is the American Association of chiropractors. So the way that is kind of designed is going to be much better for your back, so it's nice and comfortable, especially you're, wearing it with sort of heavy loads for long periods of time. So let's take a closer look so starting off with the front. So the front of it starting up right up at the top we've got this small little sort of compartment here

 It tight against your back. So it's not so we're sort of Wiggly and sort of moving around as they're shaking because they're just getting annoying, so you can sort of compress it down. But then, when you need to get into it, you can just pinch clip and get into it to sort of mesh quick access pockets. If you've got water bottles, you can stow them in there nice and quickly, but still access them without having to take the entire backpack off

 This is sort of reflective. You can also sort of attach like a head torch onto that if you're sort of cycling just so that you're a bit more visible out there in the dark around the size. We'Ve got these compression straps. So if you do have sort of any empty space or sit on the inside of the bag, you can sort of tighten these up and that just really sort of compresses

 But then, when you need to get into it, you can just pinch clip and get into it to sort of mesh quick access pockets. If you've got water bottles, you can stow them in there nice and quickly, but still access them without having to take the entire backpack off. And then, if I show you the sort of main compartment, so this has two separate compartments, the one so that the front is kind of the multimedia section. So this is for your pins and your sort of stationary, whatever you need

Bought for its durability for hiking and day trips. Fits perfectly and doesn't trap heat or sweat. The fabric feels indestructible. Zippers are smooth and well-crafted

 It's tough. It sits on your back like second skin. I bought it mainly for cycle commuting. Its' clean lines and perfect size means I can fill it with everything I need for the day and still have a bit of room to stash whatever I need to bring home
