Nikon AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR Review

 Some people say over at Nikon that the reason they did that is, they got a lot of feedback that people said they wanted the focus ring inside and the zoom on the outside, and that still makes no sense to me. I'Ve gotten used to the fact that my brain has to compute that this is the zoom, and this is the focus. The issue is, when I put the 24 to 70 on right after using the 70 to 200, my hand reaches out to the end of the barrel, and I hit the focus before I actually do this zoom. But why do I hate this lens? It'S because I am no longer as stable as I once was when I was zooming or moving and trying to capture a subject or the subject is moving and I'm trying to capture that old lens picking it up right now

 So now you zoom on the outside and you focus on the inside. I am NOT a fan of this. I wasn't a fan of it when they announced it, but of course this lens is so darn good that it's not a reason not to buy it. Now

 If I bring it in like this, I can move and zoom at the same time, if the zoom ring was right here, the other problem is when you go vertical. You go vertical like this. I'M losing a point of contact over here when I try to use this jog dial, so I'm creating less stability as I'm moving, and you can see that with these photos popping up Fergie's walking on stage, I can't get good composition even when she started to stand Still because I am struggling and fighting because everything is shaky because nothing is really attached, so I'm having trouble keeping this balanced, because I can't tuck my elbows in when this arm goes out to the end like this. It'S now further away from my body, causing it to be less stable, and then I start shaking with the lens, and it's in it's hurting my composition

Why I HATE the NIKON 70-200 2.8 FL (1 Year Review)

 This lens also makes me move around a bit to be more creative vs. just zoom in and out. 50mm lens makes me think more about the shots.  * AF-S 60mm f/2

  * AF-S 85mm f/1.8 : I use this most of the time for adult portraits and it has very good low light performance as well. I choose this over the f/1.4 version because the other reviews I've read on the web did not justify the extra $1000 spend for marginal performance improvement and unless I am getting paid to take pictures all the time, I don't see the need to pay the extra cost for the f/1

8: I use this when I just don't know what kind of pictures I could be taking and need to have zoom & I don't have to move around as much. While I don't take landscape pictures (24mm) often, I will use this for a large group outing, birthday parties when I may need to get a wide shot of a lot of people in a room and be able to have a little bit of zoom capability and not have to walk up so close to the people's face. This allows me to get some candid shots when needed. It's fairly heavy at 2 lbs and huge when you put on the hood so I almost never use this lens when I'm on the street because it attracts a lot of unwanted attention

 This is obviously a monster lens so I avoid taking it for street photos even though I've had some nice pictures and experiences on the street but it's so big... I've had people stopping me asking me if I'm a paparazzi and which celebrity I am stalking

This marvelous new-generation Nikon 70-200MM F2.8 VR II (Vibration Reduction) “Trinity” Tele-Zoom works flawlessly with our Nikon cameras (D800, D3200, D300S). Auto focus is very fast; at mid to far distances, auto focus is literally immediate; at closer distances, it quickly follows, searches and obeys where I want to focus on and with a whispering sound locks the focus with the subject tack sharp in the viewfinder (or Live View). Auto-Focus fine tuning is also dead-on at 0 (no variation) with our D800 and D300S (the D3200 does not have this fine-tuning capability)

 I have been wanting this lens for well over a year now. I finally received my wish when my amazing husband bought it for me for Christmas.  I have used the Tamron version prior to owning this one. So, my review will be somewhat of a comparison

 But if I had to choose, I would say the Nikon wins out over the Tamron on beautiful creamy background.  The build quality is a lot better than the Tamron. I like a heavy lens. The Tamron is slightly lighter, and the focus rings could be smoother

6 lens, I can tell the difference right the way. The f2.8 and the glass really opens up a whole new world for me. If you thinking about getting this lens, GO FOR IT !!! You will love it

 I posted a few sample image that I took with this news lens. Regarding the weight, you know what you are getting into, so, don't complain. Don't buy a Porsche and expect to put regular unleaded gas. Bottom line, you only live once, get it and you will be very happy with this lens

 Looking at other peoples pictures and I'm left wondering how come I cant get this lens that sharp on a tripod. I recently had the pleasure of taking pictures of a nesting bald eagle. The lens performed ok, giving me usable shots, but still seems the detail isn't quite there. I took the lens to a local dealer with an Tamron representative and they gave me tips on trying to get the best picture possible ,but even they admit the lens might have to go back

 Feels solid in the hands. Overall seems like a great value once i iron out the kinks. Staying positive as this is a decent investment for a hobbyist.

 I do appreciate the rubber edges by the front elements giving a little extra protection from bumps. The mount is plenty sturdy and easy to adjust\ remove. I do not recommend handhend as this is a pretty heavy lens you need to stabilize. The construction of the lens seems to be good

Which I admit it did provide some nice ones. The focal length for the price is ...

Lastly, the wide angle lock switch seems somewhat unnecessary, as the zoom ring already functions as a lens lock if you push it forward, while the switch only works at 150mm. The marking also feels flipped to me, as when red is showing it's actually locked, whereas in most other safety applications it would mean it's live. Overall I'm quite happy with the lens, and I look forward to taking more photos with it!.

First Semi-Pro Lens. What a difference!

 I compared side by side using Lightroom. Even at 600mm, the Tamron is still clearly better than 300mm on the Olympus. I note that many in the micro 4/3 community like to claim that 300mm is equivalent to 600mm full frame. That is pure baloney

.beyond that the clarity goes downhill with 600mm being noticeably worse. Bottom line.

I'm sorry to be the sad sack of the bunch, but I have purchased, tried in real world scenarios, and it is simply not worth the cost. It is soft, throughout the range from 5.6 to f11, from 150mm and worse past 400mm. Now some of you will look at the "raw" image and say "looks great!" but when inspect closely and compare it to other lenses it is just too soft

 What it means is that I will need to improve my technique to get the keeper rate up. Regardless, I consider it a fair trade off because the images that are in focus are excellent and could not be obtained by lenses with shorter focal lengths.

 The additional weight and bulk is a bigger concern for me since this lens at 4lbs already stretches my limits.  This lens is great through 450mm and very good to 500-550mm. It's noticeably softer wide open at 600mm but sharpens up when stopped down to f/8 or f/9. The IQ at 600 is akin to having a very good 400mm with a 1
