Nikon D3500 vs Nikon Z5

Unfortunately, its autofocus system is very basic, with only 11 detection points. It's not especially reliable when it comes to face or object tracking. Also, it isn't the best option if you're interested in recording video since it can't record in 4k, and its FHD video quality is mediocre overall. Despite that, it's still one of the best cameras to start photography with, and most beginners will be happy with it

Cons- Nikon, despite having issued numerous firmware updates, still cannot get the auto focus working properly. Not even when you are using the camera outside with plenty of light. If you are taking a full length picture of a person in the shade on a sunny day the camera most of the time just won't find the person you are taking a photo of. This is in the auto af mode, with face and eye detection turned on

Get the Canon if you want 4k video capability and a fully articulated touchscreen, but if you're new to DSLRs, the Nikon is a great alternative budget option.

I am still on the fence between DSLR and mirrorless but the smaller physical size and the ease of use is pulling me towards mirrorless. I have really enjoyed using the Nikon Z 5 for both photos and video. My previous DSLR only shot in 1080p so getting the option for 4k video is nice, however; I was disappointed to find out it does not shoot 4k at full frame. 4k video will be cropped but 1080p will do full frame

it sucked lol. Using a D3500 with a nikon 17-55 2.8 lens. I couldnt auto-focus on anything because it was so dark, and the lens wasnt letting me manually focus! I switched it to M instead of MA on the lens but when I was spinning the dial it wasn't focusing, I was trying to make it infinty focus

The touch screen can be used ether by hand or by the designated button on the back of the camera, I found the button works better for me. The provided fifty millimeter lens is of the manual type and using it that way is accomplished well enough. The provided literature on warranty and how to go about setting it up is a painless endeavor and a necessary one because things do go wrong from time to time. Also the operations manual is exceptionally well put together and explanations and pictures together helped me get the Z5 operational very quickly

and, they even managed to screw everything up by going to a 55mm filter. After a hundred and 57 years of 52 mm filters this kit 18-55 zoom requires a 55mm filter. and then there's The annoyance of the constant reminder that you need to extend the lens first before you can start shooting.

Having the ability to 2x zoom in to your subject through the viewfinder makes even manual focus lenses a snap. This paired with the 50 f/1.8 S is such a solid, near-silent combo. I doubt I will ever go back to DSLR

To be honest, the only reason why I bought this was because all modern digital cameras lack the manual control functionalities of the camera. Nowadays, everything is "automatically" managed by the computer within the camera which, in most cases, ruins the pictures. I am so glad that I made the switch to this camera! It does everything that my other cameras does not do! It allows me to manually adjust the focus, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, white balance, and so much more! I will admit that the camera can be a bit "much" to those who are new to the DSLR universe, but I will say that after you play with the camera for a while, you will know all of the menus, options and their locations like a pro! What I love about this camera is that you have the ability to switch out the stock lens for a macro lens (those insane close up photos) or for a telephoto lens (for those far distant pictures) if you choose! For me, personally, the stock lens does more than enough, but if I have the urge to buy one of the other lenses, I can do that because the camera is made for expand-ability! Contrary to what others may say, personally, I believe that the JPEG images are super clean and crisp. While you are not supposed to use JPEGs for post-production, I believe you can get away with some minor post with these files

It even has the option of adding a lens adapter so it can use Nikon F-mount lenses (Adapter FTZ $249) There are so much to love about this camera. I will try to hit on the highlights. PROS: + 2 UHS-II SD card slots. Put in fast U3 speed SD cards in it for faster saves

My biggest issue with Canon cameras was the poor battery performance. I used to lug around three spare batteries to feed be beast with Canons. With this camera I can shoot all weekend with one charge. I must also mentioned that the the great deal Amazon gave me on this camera on the Black Friday deal

The adapter is amazing (you may need to update the firmware. I am including two photos with this review that were taken using a Canon and a Canon mount Sigma lens on this Z5 body. Incredible! With appropriate adapters I am able to use my six EOS EF mount lenses on my Nikon Z5 as well as on my new Canon R5, giving me a plethora of options. The battery life on the Z5 is excellent - I have not run out of juice yet in the field

But I'm willing to order refurb direct for the VR edition of the lense. Got the standard option because I hate lenses with no IS (or VR in this case).

So in this instance the Nikon is perfect for my needs. Both have been great cameras, and I know there several years of technology difference between the two. But it seems like the Nikon is just designed better for my needs. Because of the in-body image stabilization I can use this to take much better video footage, the design of the tilting LCD screen is so much more usable than the ones that just pop out to the side, and it's still light weight! Loving everything about the Z5!
