 Greetings Earthlings, I'm back with a review of a go-to voiceover microphone. So today we're looking at this guy, the Neumann TLM103. And if you do want to pick this guy up, it'll set you back around $1100. I can't believe I spent that much money

 But I'll go ahead and throw some links down below in case you want to check it out. And for the majority of this review, I have the mic connected directly to the 2i2 second gen. Input gain set at around 10 o'clock or 1030. I'm not going to do any post-processing, EQ, compression, but I will likely boost it in post

 And then on the bottom, you'll find the XLR port. When it comes to the specs, this thing has a cardioid polar pattern, a frequency response of 20 hertz to 20 kilohertz, a sensitivity of approximately negative 33 decibels, an impedance of 50 ohms, a max SPL of 138 decibels, and a self noise of 7 dBA. That is so incredibly quiet. So now I'm spinning around the microphone to see what the off-axis coloration is at 90 degrees

Neumann TLM 103 Review Test

When I’m not mic’d up, I always push a lot more, because singing that soft feels tonally unbeautiful. But the level of thickness and clarity my Neumann gives my voice while I’m singing soft sounds so beautiful. Hearing it back so clearly in my headphones is the best monitor mix I’ve ever had for my voice, and it’s making me more solidified in my vocal confidence.

 I can't tell you how many times I've had to re-film videos because this microphone worked sometimes and failed other times. Avoid this. Get a real camera and mic. Seriously

 You can hear the difference for yourself in the video clip. The best part about this mic is it is truly plug and play. Many mics claim it but this one actually delivers it.

 UPDATE: I purchased this mic 3 years ago. It did very little in terms of performance. Here i am updating this review 3 years later. This mic sat around for 3 years as a paper weight since I did not use it because of its poor performance

 This ME barely makes any difference on my Note 8 S4 Active or my iPad mini. It is disappointing considering I spent way more money on this when I could have purchased several cheaper alternatives that work better. Loved the convenience of just plugging it into a phone with a firm attachment but it does very little to improve the audio. I added a foam cover it did not come with one

Does Very Little 👎 Till 3 Years Later 😳

 Additionally, I didn't find a sufficient enough difference b/w this device and the in-camera mic for nat sound. This is mostly a 3-star review b/c it was an error on my part to think it would be iPhone 7 compatible. Rode does have an omnidirectional mic that's compatible with the lightening port in the 7, but it's quite a bit more expensive than this little guy. Unless you REALLY need to isolate your ambient noise, I would say the in-cam iPhone 7 mic is sufficient, and for interviews, I'd go ahead and shell out the cash for the Rode lav+ with extender cord

 I also ordered, but have not yet used sufficiently to review it, one of the clip on telephoto lenses. Between the two new elements, I'm seriously considering not taking my large digital camera on a trip to Europe next Fall.

Excellent Add-on Sound for Special Situations

This seems to be a good mic so far. I especially like that it attaches to my Note 8 with the OtterBox on with no issues. The only thing I don't like in the short time that I have used it is it's size. It's much bigger than I thought it would be, and with the "dead cat" wind shield on it, it's quite huge seemingly doubling the size of my phone as I handle it
