MSI GTX 1060 Gaming X 6G Review | IMNC

 What is up everyone, welcome to my review of the GeForce GTX 1060 Gaming X 6G by MSI.

 This feature rich card has stunning aesthetics, whisper quiet, cool operation and a perfect

 Without further ado, let's dive in and take a detailed look at what this card can do.

 The 1060 Gaming X is home to the Twin Frozr 6 Cooler.

 Redesigned from the ground up, both its design and thermal performance are in a class of

 This redesigned cooler is 40% quieter than the award winning Twin Frozr 5.

 The heatsink itself features a solid nickel plated copper baseplate and special deflectors

 to direct air onto the heatsink using airflow control technology.

 Maximum heat transfer is achieved using 8mm thick, smooth square shaped heat pipes, premium

 thermal compound and close quarters cooling providing MOSFET and memory cooling allowing

 The cooler is equipped with dual Torx 2.0 fans which use two types of fan blades working

 together, generating 22% more air pressure for better cooling performance.

 Traditional fan blades push steady airflow to the heatsink below, while dispersion fan

 blades with a steeper curved blade accelerate the airflow, increasing overall effectiveness.

 As if this cooler wasn't quite enough already, this card features zero Frozr mode, completely

 stopping the fans from spinning while the GPU temperature is below 60 degrees C, making

 for completely silent operation under everyday tasks and lighter gaming sessions.

 A solid matte black baseplate covers the entire underside of the card, improving strength

 and rigidity and adding an awesome look to your system when built.

 MSI's custom tailored 6-phase PCB design uses military class 4 components with an 8-pin

 connector for much higher overclocking capabilities.

 All of these fantastic features from MSI are wrapped around Nvidia's GTX 1060.

 Based on the Pascal architecture, the 1060 is currently the most affordable of the range.

 The Gaming X edition from MSI comes clocked at 1809MHz boost and 1594MHz bass in OC mode,

 There are also selectable gaming and silent modes, with slightly lower clock speeds which

 The card comes with 6GB of GDDR5 memory on a 192-bit memory bus, PCI Express 3.0 X16

 Dual-Link DVI-D, HDMI 2.0 and three DisplayPort 1.4 connectors allow for maximum connectivity

 of four displays with 4K and VR support.

 So it's time to pop in the card and see what it can do.

Title says it, I am currently using an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 and a MSI GeForce GTX 1060 6GB.

 Now this is a game that you could definitely lower those settings all the way down to all low if you want to run on a optimized like esports competitive experience and probably get close to 100 FPS depending on what CPU you have paired with it. As long as it's a somewhat mid-range CPU you're going to get very similar results to what we have right here and I really do think at the given price point around 140 to 150 bucks right now. It's really hard to beat something like the 1066 gig. Next up in a game that is absolutely worst case scenario for something like this card Cyberpunk medium settings with the built-in benchmark we actually end up getting an average of 62 FPS

 So as Matt said, graphics cards they are coming down in price but a 1066gig does perform pretty close to a 1650 Super 4gig so that kind of leaves the question of how much are you paying. If you can get a 1060 for like the $150 to under $200 mark that still is better than 1650s at the moment. So what we're going to be doing is throwing this graphics card in our lovely test bench right here which if you haven't seen our benchmark videos.  Can my PC play Fortnite and as you can see it has no problem getting a high refresh rate experience. So after doing some testing we think one of the best parts about this card is the fact that it can still play pretty much any game at 1080p of course you are going to have to modify some settings if you want to play those AAA titles but of course games like Cyberpunk Apex Legends Call of Duty you are going to have to go to like low medium settings at 1080p to maintain over 60 FPS and obviously this is not going to be a AAA high refresh rate graphics card due to the fact that you're only spending $150

 Once again this is a very demanding game and pulling on an average of 60 FPS shows that this is going to be a good card for a long while especially in most games that are really graphically demanding you at least at 1080p can get 60 plus FPS which is no easy feat especially in Cyberpunk. In the last game we decided to test was Fortnite epic view distance everything else on low in DX 12 mode and yes of course for tonight I do have to give the disclaimer is very CPU dependent but we like to run this test because a lot of people want to know well I have a CPU that dedicated GPU and I need a placeholder option right now while waiting for prices to drop. Can my PC play Fortnite and as you can see it has no problem getting a high refresh rate experience. So overall the 1066 gig is still a very good card for the money again it all depends on price just like this GPU market right now it all depends on price and if you're going to get the most FPS for your dollar but I think at the $140 to $150 price point and maybe even lower at the time that this video is released I think the 1066 gig still has a place in the markets

GTX 1060 6GB | Good Budget Graphics Card for 2022?

 Hey what's up guys, Jack and Matt here with the ToastyBros and we have another graphics card benchmark test for you.

 This is probably one of the most popular cards out there and Steam says that it's number one use, 1066gig.

 So we picked up the 1066gig just to see is it worth picking up in 2022?

 And the prices are going down on all graphics cards used in new so it's very interesting to see if this thing still fits somewhere in the market.

 But before we dive into the testing, let's hear a word from today's sponsor.

 So as Matt said, graphics cards they are coming down in price but a 1066gig does perform pretty close to a 1650 Super 4gig so that kind of leaves the question of how much are you paying.

 If you can get a 1060 for like the $150 to under $200 mark that still is better than 1650s at the moment.

 So what we're going to be doing is throwing this graphics card in our lovely test bench right here which if you haven't seen our benchmark videos.

 Inside this test bench we have the Ryzen 5 5600G with 16 gigs of RAM at 3600MHz.

 So now what we're going to do is go ahead and run this through a swifty test of benchmarks to see just how good or bad this card is.

 Alright guys now that we have this GTX 1060 on the test bench and ready to go let's talk about a few benchmarks real quick.

 Now we decided to test this 1060 in a handful of titles those being Apex Legends, Forza Horizon 5, Call of Duty Warzone, Cyberpunk and of course Fortnite.

 First up in Apex Legends on medium settings at 1080p we end up getting an average about 70 FPS most of the time into the 80s and 90s.

 Now the 1060 6 gig is an interesting card because it is from a generation of cards that is still pretty relevant in games.

 Yes the 10,000 series is starting to get a little bit older but it does still have really good driver support and allows you to play any game you want no problems whatsoever.

 And there also is the 1060 3 gig that can also give you some pretty decent performance as well.

 But I believe the extra VRAM of the 6 gig is really going to help you in higher end games which you'll see later on the benchmark.

 But in games like Apex Legends and other esports titles on high details or if you want to lower the settings you'll still get a 60 plus and maybe even a higher refresh rate experience into the 100 plus FPS range.

 Now next up in Forza Horizon 5 which is a much more demanding GPU game on high settings using that built in benchmark we got an average of 67 FPS.

 This is very encouraging to see that the 1060 still get 60 plus FPS in the latest and greatest titles given the fact that this is a pretty old card nowadays.

 The 1060 6 gig comes packed with 1280 CUDA cores and those 6 gigs of RAM at GDDR5.

 Now compared to something like the 1650 Super that comes with GDDR6 memory you actually notice that the 1650 Super does perform a bit better even though it only has 4 gigs of RAM.

 So that's something to keep in mind not all VRAM is created equally especially when playing these newer games but in Forza 5 I do think just having the raw bandwidth really helps out here.

 Next up in Warzone on medium settings at 1080p we end up getting an average of 70 plus FPS sometimes into the 80s.

 Now this is a game that you could definitely lower those settings all the way down to all low if you want to run on a optimized like esports competitive experience and probably get close to 100 FPS depending on what CPU you have paired with it.

 As long as it's a somewhat mid-range CPU you're going to get very similar results to what we have right here and I really do think at the given price point around 140 to 150 bucks right now.

 It's really hard to beat something like the 1066 gig.

 Unfortunately, here in the studio, we don't actually have a 980 on hand, but fortunately, our good friends at Hardworking Ox did some pretty extensive testing with it, and the 1060 actually beats the 980 in some scenarios. Not all of the scenarios, but man, this thing gets essentially GTX 980 performance, take or take or minus a little bit, for 250 bucks. Now there's a couple things to note here before we draw big conclusions. The GTX 1060 is more expensive than the RX 480 at 249 MSRP, $299 if you want the Founders Edition

 Again, across the board, we see the 1060 performing just slightly ahead of the 480. Interestingly, our system pulled a little less power from the wall with the 1060, about 40 watts, than it did with the RX 480 at around 60 watts, but the 1060 system used more under load at 170 watts to the 480's 160. Now that's the whole system, not just the card, so just so you know. This may be due to the MSI Gaming X having an 8-pin power connector rather than a 6-pin like the Founders Edition

Geforce GTX 1060 - MSI Gaming X Review

 It's a new day, and a new graphics card has launched.

 Much was made about the Radeon RX 480 when it was first announced,

 as it promised VR-capable performance at $200 US or $250 for the 8GB version.

 Sure enough, when it launched, it nailed that price to performance sweet spot,

 killing it at 1080p and even 1440p in some games.

 Now, after releasing the uber-powerful GTX 1080 and 1070,

 Nvidia is aiming to hit AMD back with the GTX 1060.

 At a price and performance point slightly above the RX 480.

 So, has Nvidia negated any reason to buy this card?

 Now, as you can see here, we do not have the reference version of the GTX 1060 here,

 but rather the MSI Gaming X version of the card.

 I went over the unique features of MSI's Gaming X Custom Cooler in

...this video about the GTX 1080 and 1070,

 so click here for a more in-depth overview of what this specific custom card brings to the table.

 In this video, we're just going to focus on performance mostly.

 Now, before we begin in earnest, a note.

 You may have heard about that whole MSI and Asus are sending overclocked graphics cards

 In case you didn't catch it, MSI and Asus both released statements saying that the cards they

 send to reviewers are set to OC mode, which favors performance over power efficiency,

 while retail cards are set to game mode, which strikes more of a balance between the two.

 Now, I left this card on OC mode, since if you're thinking about getting it for gaming,

 which would be pretty much everyone, you'll probably want to turn it to OC mode anyway.

 So, just keep in mind as we look through these benchmarks that this is a custom 1060,

 so you can expect a little bit of a performance bump in this card compared to the reference model.

 And if you buy this card, it comes with MSI's gaming app,

 so you can switch it between gaming mode and OC mode and power saver mode too.

 Now, all that said, let's look at the benchmarks.

 We tested in Ashes of the Singularity, GTA V, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and The Witcher 3,

 Across the board in games, we saw around 10 to 20% increases over the 8GB RX 480 we tested

 as part of our review, which is more or less what everyone expected.

 We saw the RX 480 actually beat the 1060 in only one scenario, the Witcher 3 at 1080p.

 For synthetics, we tested in Unigine Valley and Heaven,

 as well as 3DMark Extreme, Ultra, and the new DirectX 12 Timespy benchmark.

 Again, across the board, we see the 1060 performing just slightly ahead of the 480.

 Interestingly, our system pulled a little less power from the wall with the 1060,

 about 40 watts, than it did with the RX 480 at around 60 watts,

 but the 1060 system used more under load at 170 watts to the 480's 160.

 Now that's the whole system, not just the card, so just so you know.

 This may be due to the MSI Gaming X having an 8-pin power connector

 rather than a 6-pin like the Founders Edition.

 Now a big question gamers might be asking themselves is whether they should go for a GTX 970 or 980

 instead, since those cards will no doubt be dropping in price,

 and who knows what the stock situation is going to be for the 1060.

 With the 1080 and the 1070, they were out of stock pretty quick.

 Unfortunately, here in the studio, we don't actually have a 980 on hand,

 but fortunately, our good friends at Hardworking Ox did some pretty extensive testing with it,

 and the 1060 actually beats the 980 in some scenarios.

 Not all of the scenarios, but man, this thing gets essentially GTX 980 performance,

 take or take or minus a little bit, for 250 bucks.

 Now there's a couple things to note here before we draw big conclusions.

 The GTX 1060 is more expensive than the RX 480 at 249 MSRP,

 Of course, you're probably not going to find many custom 1060s at $249 exactly.

 and all the other ones are probably going to be around there somewhere for the extra cooler,

 So if you are comfortable paying a little bit more,

 you can get that extra cushion of performance over top of the RX 480 at 1080p and sometimes 1440p.

 It's also important to note that the 1060 has no SLI bridge,

 so it does not support multi-GPU setups.

 We're not sure why Nvidia removed this as the 960 did support SLI,

 except to maybe spare them the customer support work

 of trying to help users figure out all the problems with their SLI setups.

 It's strange to see Nvidia restricting SLI in the way they've done with the 1080, 1070,

 and now the 1060, while at the same time,

 DirectX 12 is becoming prevalent with its cool multi-GPU feature.

 I mean, no games use that other than Ashes of Singularity right now,

 Anyways, so that's another plus for the RX 480,

 since it gives you the option to pop another card in your system to run Crossfire down the line.

 Whether that's important to you is up to you.

 But at the end of the day, what we have here is pretty straightforward.

 A slightly faster card at a slightly higher price point.

 If you're gaming at 1080p, the 4GB version of the 480 is still a great option at $199 US.

 But as you move up in resolution and gameplay requirements,

 it might be worth it to spend a little extra to make sure you're covered in the performance department.

 It shreds through any title I’ve thrown at it with 60+ FPS, even on the highest settings and in the peaks of team fights.  Cons: To me, it seems that the fans get kind of loud during intense gaming. But, that may also be partially the other 4 fans I have in my case as well.  Conclusion: I don't have much bad to say about this particular GPU, if anything at all

 I could not believe how nicely this complimented my Red MSI H110M Micro ATX MOBO and my Red Ballistix Sport LT RAM kit.  Pros: It's sleek and beautiful. The LEDs on it are subtle, but enough to make it really POP in any case with a transparent side panel. THERE ARE NOT 500 TINY PIECES OF PLASTIC TO PEEL OFF OF IT FRESH OUT OF THE BOX

 (I know I'm not the only person that spends more time peeling "protective" plastic off of their video card than they do building a PC.) The performance is honestly surprising for such a budget friendly GPU. It shreds through any title I’ve thrown at it with 60+ FPS, even on the highest settings and in the peaks of team fights.  Cons: To me, it seems that the fans get kind of loud during intense gaming
