Its well worth the money, just wish it was a little more robust in terms of Ram and CPU. Although for normal and slightly advanced home use its adequate. I recommend this router, much easier to set up than the Ubiquiti router I had before.

I'm using a Ubiquiti Edge Router X w/ Smart QoS and it's a plug 'n play solution if you don't want to deal with a more of a technical fix.

I will likely buy a second MikroTik security gateway as a backup since they are so reasonably priced, and keep it one firmware and OS update behind as a sort of rollback option.

You'll spend hours trying to get this bad boy to work; but if your time is worth more than minimum wage, it'll cost you far more in time than whatever you save by buying this thing instead of a fancy consumer-oriented router. Unless you know the nitty-gritty of networking or enjoy endless menus where you enter random numbers in boxes labeled with random letters to obtain random dialog boxes with error messages interpretable only by Satan, pick something else.

The "wizards" don't reflect current configuration, and they all have the same UI (and silently ignore things they don't want to pay attention to, so you'll think you've set things up when you, in fact, haven't). Also, the wizards do only very minimal setup---you have to drop down into the utterly non-intuitive CLI to do anything useful. The router is lightning fast, though. So, due to Ubiquiti's lack of a suitable offering in the range I'm willing to spend, I buy the ER-4. Overall, this thing is great - I've never used an EdgeMAX product, but I setup UNMS and I'm happy with it. Overall, it just works - a great device. Setup was a breeze

IIRC, I had to turn of SSH on the external interface, filter BOGONs and a coupla other things. No major changes. I think the link I followed was Manito Networks or something like that. Still, this is the best router out there for under ~$150, and it's been rock solid since installing it

I have enough faith in Ubiquity products that I just sent it back and ordered another one. I've been running their radio panels for several years now and they just work - period. No reboots, etc. Set and forget
