Choose this binding for optimized downhill performance, but do so with caution. As it pertains to inherently compromised backcountry ski bindings, we can seldom make absolute claims. However, we can definitely assert that the Marker Duke PT is the best skiing binding that can also tour. Aside from minor points, the Duke PT skis as well as basic to above average resort bindings. We can say that about few to no other backcountry products. 
That, though, is where the applause ends. To get that downhill performance, the Duke PT is too heavy and complicated to compete on any level with actual touring bindings. The Duke PT is literally 7x the weight of the lightest binding we tested &#40;and 12x the weight of lightest options on the market!&#41; For all that weight, you might get downhill performance that is 2x the light options. That's tough math to reconcile. Basically, these bindings are for resort &#40;or other mechanized ascent, i.e., helicopter or snowcat&#41; skiing that may involve only short ascents. "Regular" backcountry skiing is best done with regular and much lighter backcountry ski bindings.

 So we have a perfect compromise between downhill performance and releasing safety and uphill capability with the pins. So Max, is this your final solution for the one binding to go up upwards, skiing downhill fast and hard? It is the answer to it, this is the perfect binding, the final binding. It doesn't get any better than this in terms of hybrid free ride bindings. What's the weight of the 12 and the 16? So we have 1150 for the smaller version and then reduced if you take the tow part off you save 300 grams so you are at around 850 uphill and for the 16 version we have 1350 and then a bit over 1 kilogram if you have the tow removed

IS MARKER DUKE PT BETTER THAN SALOMON SHIFT?

 I just toured up in this tech. Binding fully tech - and now I have this really locked down sense of confidence to go rip, and you know it's great. We had soft snow to test it in yeah. There'S some hot spots underneath, but I felt like you know Alpine set up, so I mean I think the big takeaway is, if you're looking for an 80 binding, but you you really really really value strong downhill performance

 This is this is a really really really good option now I think it's important to compare it to other bindings and and what I'm doing in my head is kind of drawing a spectrum from kingpin 13, which is already more binding so to speak. Then then, your traditional text fit in bindings, but if you start up the kingpin 13 and then draw a spectrum going through the shift and then up to this, this Duke PT 16 - that that's the that's how I'm thinking of it. You know the kingpin kind of leans they're. All all three of those bindings are designed to do a little bit of everything

 This chat super easy to take them off and super easy to put them back on to so I don't see any downside to take them off. I'M thinking once you put it like you, take it off. It'S obviously you're like oh wow. This is super simple, like yeah, anybody can do it like

 You can tell somebody on the phone how to do it. You could like yeah many. It'S just easy. It'S really simple

Marker Duke PT Alpine Touring Binding Review

 This makes the binding vulnerable to damage in a “knee fall” while touring (as when you pitch forward with your knee trying to go down on a ski and thus yank the binding plate violently forward). Also, they’re heavy at 47 ounces per binding, and thus a poor choice if you’re serious about climbing and don’t tend to break bindings.

Duke is a “frame” or “plate” binding that uses a carbon plastic structure to connect the toe and heel units, so the whole machine can hinge on a toe pivot and thus provide a walking (ski touring) function. Difference is that the frame is wider, very rigid, and latches in a firm system of slots with many times the engagement area of past bindings with similar design philosophy (genre known as “frame bindings”).

 It'S actually heavier than then the shift is which makes sense. I think that that royal family heel piece is known to be fairly heavy and it looks like this binding is going to be pretty darn burly, so it is the heaviest so for comparison. A a kingpin. Thirteen comes in at 750 grams per binding

 So if you saw that I apologize, I was a little bit confused because binding companies list their their weights a little bit differently, whether it's per binding or per pair. So our apologies, so the the Duke PT, especially that 16 din-din version, is going to be the heaviest so it'll be interesting to see. If we get significant more or significantly more, you know stomp ability whether it feels feels more secure than the shift when you're, when you're locked in into downhill mode. So those will be all things that will we'll be testing once we get our hands on this binding

 It'S crazy windy out right now, so if we get lights flickering or if we lose lights entirely, I apologize we're not like 50 mile, an hour gusts going on out there there's also a they call it a lock and walk break. I assume this is going to function very similarly to how the shift, how you kind of step it down and lock the break up. I imagine it's going to be very similar to that. Let'S talk about weight so the way that this binding falls in with weight is kind of interesting

Consider the Salomon STH2 13. It has the most elastic travel of any binding on the market so you can essentially set your din lower without risking pre release.

I just got a new set of Line Sick Day 104’s. These will be my powder/trees/bumps/freshies skis. I have another set for groomer/ice days. 

I say I’d fall in the higher end of advanced intermediate, or lower end of expert. 200#, 5’11”. 

My other set has Marker Griffon bindings. I like em. 

But I’m conscious of safety on these given the type of skiing I’ll be doing on them. I used to have Look Pivot bindings on an old set of skis. 

Question would be, is any set of bindings really safer? Do the Look Pivots have a real world advantage there or is it a gimmick?

I don’t really see needing more than 10 DIN for my style of skiing FWIW.

Binding advice, please

 Hey guys, what's up, it's Jake, today I have a review for you of the Salomon STH2WTR bindings. Now these bindings have a DIN range of 5 to 13, and are generally meant for intermediate or advanced skiers, even really advanced skiers can ride these comfortably with good confidence in their bindings, holding them down to the ski. Now these bindings have a very wide mounting stance, a wide teflon base plate for the toe, and generally solid materials. They're mainly plastic, but it does keep up relatively well with durability, I have them mounted on some fat Icelandic skis that I've been using for powder, I used them out in Utah over February break, and they were really nice, really ripped, and I was really happy with them

 Now these bindings have a very wide mounting stance, a wide teflon base plate for the toe, and generally solid materials. They're mainly plastic, but it does keep up relatively well with durability, I have them mounted on some fat Icelandic skis that I've been using for powder, I used them out in Utah over February break, and they were really nice, really ripped, and I was really happy with them. So other than durability, these are very durable bindings, they have high quality plastic materials, not metal, but that keeps them relatively lightweight, but they aren't as light as you think they are for an all plastic binding. Some features are the WTR is the walk to ride system that allows you to use touring boots with walk base plates that allow you to more comfortably walk on say asphalt or cement

 The difference between this is this is a heavier binding, and it does have a lower mounting stance and a metal heel piece, so you're not going to be breaking your heel piece on this. Other than that, coming back to the Salomon binding, it's relatively fairly priced. Ski bindings these days are very expensive, but you're not going to find a much better binding other than the two I mentioned for really powder and park. So if you have a chance, and the price is right, definitely check it out

Salomon STH2 WTR 13 Ski Binding Review

These bindings are the only in-bounds binding I trust. After having used other brands in the past, these Salomon STH2 bindings are second to none. For me the weight of these bindings gives me the confidence to make hard charging turns down the fall line without worry of pre-releasing.

 Hey, this is Dylan from The Ski Monster and today we're going to go over how to adjust your Salomon STH ski binding. First we're going to begin with forward pressure. We have a screw on the back of the heel piece and when we engage it we want it to be flush with the housing. Let's start by clicking that in and seeing where we end up

 That's perfect forward pressure. The second step is we're going to adjust the toe height so we make proper contact with the AFD. So we're going to engage our boot again. We're going to give it a tug back to make sure it's seated properly and we're going to take something similar to the thickness of a business card and slide in between the AFD and the sole of the boot

 So I'm going to put this to a 10. So we grab a flathead screwdriver and we're going to turn this clockwise until the line matches to the proper number, which is 10. Simple as that. Now we're going to move to the toe piece

 We have a screw on the back of the heel piece and when we engage it we want it to be flush with the housing. Let's start by clicking that in and seeing where we end up. So we can clearly see the screw is sticking out too far which would indicate that the pressure is too loose. So we need to grab a Phillips head screwdriver and make clockwise rotations until that binding and screw it flush
