 All right so now I have the wireless access point connected right here and what this is going to do is show us if you have a really big house and you need to connect some of your devices to the mesh access point which is wireless to the other router like maybe you're getting bad speeds here with just a single router and you need to add another one. We're going to see what kind of speeds we can get from the mesh access point. So I'm going to go ahead and run a speed test here and see what kind of speeds we get. Looks like we're going to see about let's see 300 over 300

 But even though it's dual-band the five gigahertz channel has the capability to use 160 megahertz channels which allows you to get ridiculous speeds with devices that support it. And like the Velop you can also buy multiple Hydras and mesh them together using the intelligent mesh system and you can even wirelessly mesh the Hydra with the Velop or vice versa to get even more flexibility. All right so now I have the wireless access point connected right here and what this is going to do is show us if you have a really big house and you need to connect some of your devices to the mesh access point which is wireless to the other router like maybe you're getting bad speeds here with just a single router and you need to add another one.  So as you can see that is faster than what we saw when we connected directly to the router downstairs. So again this is the benefit of Wi-Fi 6. Okay so here is a chart of the speed test results that we got from both routers at all locations and as you can see these are fantastic speeds in pretty much every situation. I was especially impressed by the speeds from the wireless mesh access point

Linksys Velop MX4200 & Hydra Pro 6 Mesh Wifi Routers

 It took a few minutes, but I didn't have to do anything, and that's about as easy as router setup gets. The appeal of the Velop system is that it's a mesh network, so I plugged in the other nodes throughout the house. The app then automatically joined them to the mesh network, and let me know if I'd place them in a good spot to ensure solid connectivity. This one I placed in a bedroom on a different floor from the main node

 Now this mesh system is designed to provide up to 8100 square feet of wireless coverage. That completely covered the inside of my house and the backyard, but I went for a walk down the street to see how far I could get a WiFi signal. The strength started to drop off as I walked away from the house, because it's now having to go through brick. However, I got two houses away before losing the signal

 However, you can use the mobile app or the computer app to tweak performance and functionality. This includes features like device prioritization and parental controls. Running the speed test, you can see my download speed is showing up as 593 megabits per second. That's actually slightly over the half gig internet service I pay for

This one I placed in a bedroom on a different floor from the main node. It's an area that traditionally gets spotty WiFi. There's a game console here, and I plugged it directly into the Velop node with Ethernet, so it gets the maximum speed possible

Linksys Velop AX4200 Wi-Fi 6 Whole Home Mesh System Review

  Not sure it's common to all mesh wifi, but Velop needs a lot of node to have the equivalent signal strength and coverage as in my case I ended up using all 6 of it to get rid of dead spot. I knew 3 nodes may not be enough but I expected 4 would cut it. Yet I found myself kept adding more to the mesh.  While I was at it, I also grabbed a deal from Staples for 2 dual band Velop mini mesh node, the ac1300, but ended up returning it as its backhaul throughput is too low while wifi signal is as strong as the tri-band, so other than interference it does no good

Not the Best Bang for the Buck but Attractive Design

 I replaced a 'power line' ethernet distribution system with the Velop mesh system and am definitely getting better performance. Velop reports that I am getting >200mbps download speed through my ISP, but on any wifi device (iPhone X) or Ethernet connected device (MacBook Pro) using SpeedTest, I only get a max speed of 120 mbps. SpeedTest and Velop do not use the same algorithms to measure speed, so the comparison might not be fair. The price on Velop continues to drop as other competitors now offer mesh systems with very good performance

 UPDATE 10/10/18: Escalation support has determined that my Netgear switches are Managed ones. As such, I'd have to disable Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) and, if possible, enable LLDP on the Netgears. Velop may work without LLDP, but Linksys can't guarantee that. I have not yet found out how to disable STP/enable LLDP on the Netgears, and so the Wired option won't be available to me with the Velops at this time

I have been an IT Systems Engineer for over 14 years and have dealt with technology for quite some time longer, particularly in the areas of networking and gadget. I am going to write this review as non-technical as possible, then dive deeper into the more technical aspects later.  Like many of you, you probably considered buying something like this Linksys Velop (or Eero Pro, Google WiFi, Orb, etc) because you have dead spots in your house where WiFi signal is either weak or non-existent. I have had that problem at my house where my outdoor security cameras would often freeze due to loss of signal, requiring a manual reboot every other week, and most importantly: I did NOT get enough WiFi in my bathroom to read my news! Nearly every man here reading this probably agrees that this is IMPORTANT!  PREVIOUS SOLUTIONS So, I tried improving coverage by setting up an additional WiFi router on the other side of the house, but that would require us to manually switch to the appropriate WiFi name (SSID) that gives us the best signal wherever we are

 Of course, the further out you are from the node, the weaker the signal. The closer the Velop nodes are to one another, the stronger it is able to amplify the signal to the other nodes throughout the house. So, if you have a two-story house with 4+ bedrooms, Linksys suggests having 3 nodes: one for downstairs, upstairs, and another somewhere in-between. Place it like a Zig-zag pattern (Z) or a sideways V (>) - I set up a Guest WiFi network to put all my smart home devices on (Yi and Kuna security cameras and electrical outlets)

 I don't recommend the dual-band, however, even though that's what I'm now using, because its range and stability are not as good as the tri-band's, probably because the smaller size means smaller antennae. It took me hours to connect the dual-band nodes, and they sometimes drop off the mesh without warning. The tri-band nodes have never failed except in the case of internet interruption. To add, you just go to the Linksys app => Velop Administration => Add New Product => Add Node

 I found the most difficult part of the set-up process was to figure out where to place the nodes. If I placed one on each floor, my family room TV did not get a strong enough signal to stream seamlessly. I ended up placing two nodes on the main floor at opposite ends of the house and one on the second floor, more in the middle of the house. Although this configuration ended up covering most of the house, certain areas had a weaker signal, in part because Velop decides itself whether a device should be on the 2

Beats Orbi, Deco, and Dual-Band Velop

  We just started a kitchen renovation a few weeks ago. I had to move the main node out of the kitchen as that area was being demo'd. So I decided to get into the nitty gritty of mesh networking and do the new node layout from scratch. The key thing that made a difference was that I downloaded an app called NetSpot on my phone that actively shows you the signal strength of ALL wireless network points it sees when you are standing in a certain spot

The Orbi is very expensive and I do not understand why I need to pay for wifi when I pay monthly for wifi in my home. Except that it did not work in my whole house only in one room. the Orbi is working now but I had to turn off the house wifi in order for it to work.

I bought thisabout 4 months ago to bypass the Verizon router.  Very easy to set up but except for running speed tests, I can't tell a difference.  The satellite doesn't seem to help any.  My phone seems to take longer to load apps than before and we have had some buffering on streaming tv for the first time in years though not a lot
