The La Sportiva Nucleo High II GTX is our favorite boot for coming out of water crossings unscathed. The Gore-Tex Surround lining and nubuck leather upper kept our feet dry, and the boot itself dried quickly after splashing through streams. The gusseted tongue also helped with water repellency. These are also one of the lighter pairs in this category, which definitely saved our feet after long miles. The Vibram sole has pleasantly grippy lugs, and the heel has some rock to it that makes it easier to brace and brake on downhills. 
This boot's stability was a little disappointing. Even though it has extra cushioning on both the inside and outside of the ankle, the upper still gives way under torsion. We also found the lace hooks curiously and frustratingly difficult to use. It means that the laces stay really secure, but we've never really experienced issues with lace hooks on other models, so we aren't sure why La Sportiva went with the hard-to-use redesign here. In any case, for those who will be stomping through puddles and making their way across streams, brooks, and shallow rivers, this model is our first choice.

The next step down in weight consists of trail running-inspired designs from brands like Hoka One One and Altra, but those shoes compromise big time in terms of stability and durability in order to shave weight. In the end, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a lighter boot that offers similar levels of support and protection

  Another quality hiking boot in this category is Asolo’s Falcon GV. The Falcon is one ounce heavier than the Nucleo at 2 pounds 2.6 ounces and has comparable technical chops. Comfort also was great out of the box (we think it gets the slight edge here over the Sportiva), and the Falcon has a more accommodating fit for those with average feet, which made a big difference for us

What We Don’t Narrow fit and no wide sizes means that people with regular to wide feet are simply out of luck. Pricey for a lightweight hiking boot at nearly $200. Some users have reported durability issues with the eyelets and heel brake, although we did not experience these ourselves.

 It’s also quite easy to tighten the laces securely around the foot and ankle, and we experienced no ankle rolls or signs of weakness or instability while scrambling over rock. All in all, because of its low weight, the Nucleo doesn’t feel cumbersome or unwieldy underfoot, yet it’s noticeably more supportive than most hiking shoes we’ve tested and a standout in the lightweight boot category.  They have not had heavy mileage.  I have contacted La Sportiva directly and they have been less than helpful. They simply note that boots wear out. If you are happy to pay over $200 for a pair of boots that only last 18 months with irregular and not heavy use then these are the ones for you as they are comfortable

But let me know, guys, if you had experience testing them in some really, really cold temperatures, let me know

 Welcome to Firearms of America! Today, as you guys can see, I have another pair of

 Salomon boots or shoes for review. Always excited to do those. Let's see what we got.

 These are the all-new Salomon Quest 4 GTX. Now, don't confuse them with the

 older version, the Salomon Quest 4D 3 GTX. This is the all-new 4 version. Almost

 wish that there wasn't a 4D in there so that people don't get confused. But this

 far only five ratings, five stars. Not gonna see a lot of those for a while, but

 I'm telling you these boots gonna explode because their previous version

 was extremely, extremely popular. So, let's see if this is an upgrade. Now, as most of

 you already know, this review is not just a regular boot review. No, this review

 specifically for my Ultimate Survival boots section. Basically, if something bad

 happened and you were either hiking or you were at work or doing whatever, maybe

 sitting in the house and you had these boots. Maybe you had them on or you had

 them somewhere on the shelf that you could put them on. And you did. Now, you

 had to leave your house and walk, run, fight on the way because it's survival

 situation. I don't know. Use your imagination. 2020 has been pretty crazy.

 2021 has been crazy so far. I would say probably crazier so far. So, you probably

 have some survival scenarios in your head. So, use them, right? And this is the

 boot that you were wearing. Would this help you to survive or, well, not? How do

 we make the judgment? We make the judgment based on eight different

 criteria. Let's begin the review. Criteria number one, of course, comfort level, one

 of the more important ones. And in order to test the comfort level of all the

 boots that I review on this channel, boots, shoes, because I do some hiking

 shoes, some trail running shoes as well. I do a three mile run non-stop and then a

 five mile walk. No pauses in between. Again, non-stop right after the run and

 then I continue wearing the boots or shoes for the rest of the day so that the

 total wear time is about eight hours. Now, I know some of the things that I run in,

 some of the boots like work boots, it doesn't really make a lot of sense. You

 wouldn't really run in those in pretty much any kind of normal wearing
