Hot damn! That is a bowl-lift model. I am happy you ran into such a good deal. Excellent procurement.

And yet it can’t handle whipping a buttercream on medium high for 10 minutes. I have to premix thicker doughs just to make sure it can get going. And it’s gotten to the point that sometimes I’ll just break out my hand mixer off the bat because I don’t feel like dealing with the Kitchenaid.

The good: The overall appearance of the mixer is sleek and, for lack of a more appropriate word, professional. The flat beater does do a great job of mixing cookie and cupcake batters, with the occasional (expected) scrape with a rubber spatula. I have not utilized the dough hook, and therefore have no opinion but positive at this point.

An added benefit of the digital control is that it's got a sensor for thermal shutoff if it gets too hot (I've never gotten there, but I've been pretty cautious). All told, this thing is incredibly well-designed, every little detail is thought out and done very well.

It is fairly easy to use, and it looks fine. It is easy to clean, and it continued to look like new after many uses. A number of other reviews state complaints about this mixers performance, largely of the nature: this is not built like my grandmother's Kitchenaid. I don't have my grandmother's mixer around to compare with this one

Unless you put more than a pound of flour in, there's not enough ingredients for the dough hook to actually knead the dough. Even with the tool adjustment set all the way down, there's still room enough for my whole hand between the hook and the bottom of the bowl. So instead of an amazingly powerful "professional" machine I will be pleased about putting on my counter once a week and proud when it can make dozens of cookies at once, I got something too big for everyday use and not really good enough for professional use. The only consolation is that the cheaper brands aren't really good enough for even home use, so I've got that going for me

Next, this is not so much an "I don't like" but, I plan to order a smaller bowl. The 7 qt capacity is way too big for a basic pound cake. The paddle mixed extremely well, all was incorporated and I did not have to stop and scrap the sides regularly, but a smaller bowl would serve well. I also plan to order the slicer/shredder

The mixer is very heavy and the bowl lift design is quite cumbersome and makes bowl scraping and blade removal or change a big mess if not careful. I would not buy this model again and go for the tilt head. The 575 watt motor is not as powerful as one would think . All in all you get what you pay for and this is a sub 250 dollar unit

On the other hand, it is very big and VERY heavy. Maybe it has to be to have that much power, but I find it is a big pain to move around. I also find getting the bowl on and off the clips to be quite awkward. I suppose I will get used to it over time, but compared to my old mixer where you just slipped the bowl on and off the stand, I find it cumbersome

If I keep it, I will look for new gears to install in it.) The KitchenAid has a slow-start protocol built in, so that when you turn it on (by advancing the speed lever - there is no on/off switch) it doesn't sent a puff of flour in the air or splash liquid out (unless you go immediately to high). The Kenmore I had apparently was engineer with a fast-start; I resorted to starting the Kenmore with the beaters up and then lowering them into the bowl when the mixer had gone to it's appropriate speed. Still, if I had a lot of flour in the bowl of the KitchenAid, I'd start with the bowl lowered, and slowly ight the bowl to reduce splatter, etc

Since the new unit is so much quieter, it's temping to think the speed needs to be increased. As an added bonus, my old bowls (6qt) fit the new mixer, which means the extra lids work - yea. Part of my research was to read the review done by cooks illustrated. As usual their recommendation was spot on

I've owned the classic for over 20 years and like that one more than this updated mixer. Power seems to slow down when adding ingredients after it's started. It's ok, but I like the classic which never left the gunk at the bottom of the bow. I'm trying to convince my son to give the classic back

Before I got my Kitchenaid stand mixer, I had a $15 hand mixer from Big Lots that worked just fine for years. You don't want to try and cream butter and sugar by hand with a whisk.

5. what ever you making you have to make in large amount otherwise it will not mix properly. ( the bowl is big)

Been wanting my own KA mixer for years and finally got the best deal here on Amazon. I put the mixer in my wish list about 2 years ago and have watched the price fluctuate by 20 dollars up and down, but it finally took a significant drop and I jumped. So, I have no idea the price others may get, but I found this a great deal at $320, especially when local department stores carry the same model for over $500. I have used the tilt-head model in the past (mother and sister both have one), but read many reviews claiming the tilt-head models in the past decade have had problems with breaking in the tilting mechanism

KitchenAid and Bosch are great but outside of budget. Don’t bother with Samsung (features often break) or LG (still have compressor issues).

Hnmnm I wonder why they only have a one-year warranty…JUNK… Stick with another brand!

The clicking hasn't changed for better or worse and I still love the mixer. Little irritated about the warranty since that was a big part in my decision. That's why I am changing my rating to 4 stars instead of 5.

I like the fact that I can make cookies that require 6 cups of flour with no issues. But frankly it is very loud. I'm kinda wishing that I would have tried the bosch or even quisinart. If you can stand the noise this is a pretty good purchase

Zowie!!! Once the ingredients were mixed and actual kneading began the noise was stunning! A family member ran from the other end of the house in fear that I'd been hurt or had finally lost it and took a hammer to the mixer. This was much louder than the last one and "crunchier". I really wanted bread so I let it carry on like that for several minutes while screaming over the cacophony that I was fine.
