 The flipper has nicely done jimping for fingertip traction. All edges are radiused and finished. The handle shape is fantastic for a secure hold and the aluminum scales are roughed up slightly for a good grip. The overall size is what is for me the max comfortable pocket carry size

Bigger knives like the BM Barrage take up most of the jeans pocket. This Link is slim enough and just shorter enough to leave pocket room for keys and coins and a hand

  The 420HC steel of the Link is plenty good enough for most purposes. It requires sharpening more often than the S30V but it is a well proven blade stainless steel. I don’t generally like liner locks since you must put your finger in the blade path of travel to unlock it. Use focused attention always when closing one

  The blades of the two knives are very similar: same length, same thickness with a tapered back and point though the Link has a sharper point and slightly more belly, same length of handle and overall, both have quality scales over sturdy stainless liners, same handle thickness. But the Volli costs more than 4x the Kershaw Link.  The 420HC steel of the Link is plenty good enough for most purposes.  A qtr turn on the locking nut fixed that without loosening the blade...now it works perfectly

Very sharp with premium/super premium steel

I really like my Link and carry it most days. I used to carry my Cryo_2, but I like this better (good steel, feels good). The blade is large enough and 'beefy' enough to take everyday use. The only thing I wish was designed different is that it has a frame lock, that requires one to push it to the side (and thus putting a finger in the path of the blade) when folding

Great everyday knife. Looks good and is practical for tough jobs.

 That was easy enough to sharpen to a point however. With the Link, I found that after I deployed the blade, the lock was very strong, with no blade play. Additionally, some people have concerns about flippers deploying in their pockets and cutting their leg. Obviously caution should always be taken when you're walking a round with a sharp knife, it's not your phone and keys, it's a potential weapon

 That said, the flipping mechanism, though fast and fluid in its movements when you hit the switch, is heavy enough where I imagine it would take unusual pressure to have it deploy by accident. If you want a fast, satisfying, sharp flip knife, Kershaw makes some of my favorites.

 While I did not observe any design flaws with the lock or flipper mechanism, I imagine some factory flaws might exist. When I first go the Headgrille I was surprised to find the tip a little blunt. That was easy enough to sharpen to a point however. With the Link, I found that after I deployed the blade, the lock was very strong, with no blade play

This blade, the Link, and the other Kershaw knife I own, the Headgrille, a sadly discontinued spring assisted flipper, are really solid designs and work well when you need a blade deployed fast with one hand. The Link is smaller and lighter than the Headgrille, and that would perhaps be my only complaint here. I preferred the heavy metal body of the Headgrille, which could be used as a glass breaker in an emergency, over the Link which feels about as light as a Swiss Army Knife in your pocket. That said, there are many benefits to a sharp, pointy blade that you can deploy fast with one hand in an emergency and which is small and light enough to palm in your hand

3 inches, and again it's a back lock, kind of a mid back lock, which is super easy to disengage one handed, it's got that amazing Spyderco wire clip that I love, it's not deep carry, which on this knife I think is really smart, it's so small that if there were deep carry it would literally disappear and you would forget about it, and I've actually had a Dragonfly II go through the washing machine and the dryer because I forgot that it was in my pocket, 1.2 ounces is, it's a featherweight, it's a true featherweight, it's a tiny little knife, but it is very much capable. I think that's the one thing I want to really get across is that although it's small, don't let its size fool you, because you'd be surprised, a 1.875 inch blade can still accomplish most of the things we use our knives for in a given day, whether it be cutting packages, letters, string, things like that, if you're breaking down a giant cardboard box I'd probably grab something else, but as an EDC folder, or as kind of a secondary blade in your fifth pocket, I think it's hard to beat the Dragonfly II, especially as like a really small secondary knife, I would totally use this as a primary, some people wouldn't, but as a secondary, I don't know, I think it's kind of hard to beat, super super comfortable, I have massive hands, extra large size gloves, and this thing is comfy, choked back, not using that forward finger choil, using that thumb ramp right there that is just beautifully jimped, I love Spyderco's jimping, choked back using that choil, it's just locked in, I mean if I put a little forward pressure on that choil, this thing is locked in my hand going nowhere, it's got that nice grippy bi-directional FRN, and then again the jimping on the spine, a little bit of texture on the FRN itself, and then you're jimping on the underside of that finger choil, and the width on this guy is

 So that's the Spyderco Dragonfly II, just wanted to do a quick video and talk about it and show you a few different options on ones you can get, I think, well so this is a recent release, I got that from BladeHQ I want to say, and I don't know if that one's still available, this I think was a sprint run at some point, the kind of greyish one, but all the other ones should be available, the black, the dark green, the yellow and the orange, plus a bunch of different ones, and if you look on Amazon you can find these as cheap as like 55 bucks for the kind of camo pattern, I think they call it Zome Green, and then again there's plenty other variants of this knife as well, so yeah it's just a really great knife and these things kind of get me excited, I just like them a lot, it's adorable, just look at that, would you look at that, yep, great knives, and let me get a little closer view on this one because that's a beautiful color, that teal, and I know these were pretty hot off the press not too long ago, and then the salt series is pretty cool too because it does have a different grind to it, so it just has a different look in H1 steel, as we can see there, so if you're spending a lot of time by the water this might be a good option for you, but yeah I just think for a fifth pocket backup folder it's hard to beat the Dragonfly 2, so let me know in the comments, do you own a Dragonfly 2, if so do you love it, if you do not own a Dragonfly 2 does this design appeal to you, and then let me know what would be your go-to fifth pocket folder if it's not the Dragonfly 2, it could be anything, but I'd like to hear your thoughts on kind of your secondary fifth pocket folder, and keep in mind I truly mean a fifth pocket, like a fifth pocket in a pair of jeans is like that big right, it's like a zippo lighter you know or something like that, so this will truly fit all the way into a fifth pocket, so what is your favorite knife that would actually fit into a fifth pocket, because I'd be interested to hear, so that's it just want to talk briefly about the Dragonfly 2 only because I like them a lot and no other reason, so that's it thank you guys all so much for watching and I will talk to you soon.

 That's right, today we're talking about one of my favorite all-time folding knives, probably top 10 of all time, and I think I said that in a recent video about a different knife, the K-Bar Dozier, so maybe I need to do a top 10 all time video, but today we're talking about the Spyderco Dragonfly 2, which is truly one of my favorite folding knives of all time. So let's get a few of these out of the way, they'll just kind of be there to stare at, and you know, we'll use the orange one for the review. So I just want to talk about the Spyderco Dragonfly 2 because I love this knife so much, and I did a video on this actually months and months ago, it was one of my earlier videos and it was terrible, it was one handed, I'm pretty sure the video was in portrait mode, it was bad. So I wanted to revisit it because it's a knife that I truly love, and I think you should too, I really do

 So let's get the short version out of the way with the Dragonfly 2, what are we looking at? Spyderco Dragonfly 2 | A Love Affair

  I am no longer an infantry Marine. When I was, I used fixed blades, multitools, and folders like the Paramilitary 2. I am not currently a forest ranger, a rancher, a farmer, or a multitude of others occupations that might occasionally need a knife that can pry, chop wood, etc. I'm also not a 'prepper' or a survivalist, and if I was, this is not the knife I'd be sticking in my bug-out-bag

  The DragonFly 2 in ZDP-189 is small and lightweight. I put it in the watch pocket of my jeans and forget about it, even with my iphone in the same pocket. I can drop it into slacks and not be bothered by it. In convenience, it scores an 11 out of 10

 So what it really boils down to is blade length. Is this a long enough blade? For my everyday use it is. The minutiae of daily American life.

 It'S going to have similar materials with VG, 10 blade and FRN handle scales, but a much smaller package of overall, and actually you can see it fits almost within the scope of the handle the delica. Now this does come in several variants, so here on the far left we have so May, which is a type of Japanese dying, and you can see that this is kind of a green brown, almost camouflaged like pattern. Next, we've got e zdp 189, so this is going to be an upgrade in the blade steel with higher levels of wear resistance. This is a high hardness, high chromium, Japanese cutlery, steel that has exceptional performance and we've got a British racing

Next, we have just the standard vg-10 model and that's going to have a black FRN, the salt series dragonfly

 We'Ve got a bleed of vg-10. On this version. It'S got a full height flat grind, with a full ink edge, giving you a very fine tip and a very thin blade stock on these as well. Making this an excellent slicer vg10 is going to offer good corrosion resistance and wear resistance while being relatively easy to sharpen, get an index finger

 Vg 10 blade. This one is built on stainless liners with the same back lock mechanism and then, of course, we've got foliage green g10 handle scales. This one is going to be a little heavier coming in two ounces overall in weight, but still very light weight option for everyday carry. Dragonfly offers an exceptional amount of performance, giving you a nearly full four fingered grip with that index finger choil

 but honestly its a good little knife, but maybe im paying more for the brand name on it than anything else. ive purchased better heavier knives (i like heft) for less on BladeHQ. but this would have been the same price there also so i gave it a shot with free shipping and very quick delivery. hope this helps a little

i want to love it

 It has gone through the wash a few times, and it is my most frequently misplaced knife due to it's small size and feather weight.  The short blade is very functional due to the 50/50 coil and aggressive jimping, but the small grip doesn't inspire too much confidence. The frame flexes a little, reminding you that it is a light duty knife. It is flickable, but you might have to tune the main pivot screw for optimal function

 I say “good” choice, not great, because these days there are better blade steels out there. VG-10 was fine back when this knife was first released, but times have changed. Still, VG-10 is serviceable blade steel and it certainly still works. What I like about VG-10 is how easy it is to sharpen, and how it is resistant to rust and corrosion

 But perhaps my favorite ergonomic feature is the way the back end of the handle has been shaped to support the pinky finger. This gives you a true 4 finger grip and allows for awesome leverage on the knife. In my mind, this little section of FRN is what really makes the Dragonfly work.

 This blade excels at opening mail and packages. My only gripe with the blade shape, is that it lacks a sharpening choil. A small notch at the end of the edge that allows you to easily sharpen the entire length of the edge. You don’t have a sharpening choil here, so it will be difficult to sharpen the heel of the blade with a flat stone

 Still, VG-10 is serviceable blade steel and it certainly still works. What I like about VG-10 is how easy it is to sharpen, and how it is resistant to rust and corrosion. Newer, more exotic steels will hold an edge longer, but VG-10 gets the job done. Most smaller blades suffer from poor ergonomics and get kicked out of my pocket pretty quickly
