You might not even fully realize just how much you want a ski like this. For high-volume ski touring, steep-and-rowdy firm-snow ski mountaineering, and work-week, headlamp exercise skinning, a lightweight set-up based on the K2 WayBack 80 is just the ticket. The featherweight construction flies uphill. The narrow and stiff construction grabs on the steeps but gets bucked around in tougher snow. 
This is a specialized tool. You won't pick these for day-to-day backcountry skiing. Deep, perfect powder snow is enjoyable, but bigger guns will be even more fun. Any sort of poor snow &#40;breakable crust? Slop?&#41; is better handled by a bigger and heavier option. All small skis are under-equipped for tough snow, but the K2 does better than most. It is this ski's more forgiving tough-snow performance that edges it ahead of other close competitors.

Obviously I won't be taking these out for powder laps but for long/fast and/or late season missions this is a great choice at a great price. Match them with a race binding (I mounted a Plum 150), light boots and race skins and you'll have a setup you won&#39;t mind hiking with to find snow in mid summer.

I got these for late spring/summer use and couldn't be happier. They are very light but can still be skied hard. I have found they shine on steep icy slopes (skied bulletproof on Temple SW) and they handle those horrible summer sun cups just fine. Compared to the Waybacks 88s I find they are a bit less grabby in breakable crusts and easier to control on steep ice

My vote goes to the Salomon Stance 84. All-mountain ski that isn't too crazy wide underfoot. Performs WELL beyond its price point and construction.

I am an intermediate skier who is looking to purchase skis. Most of my skiing is on piste.  I am comfortable skiing all types of runs. I am looking for a good all-rounder that is easy to carve and turn. Suggestions, please.

Helping choosing skis

 You get the benefits of metal. You get that smooth feel, maybe not as much dampening as the wider skis, but still pretty good. It gives you that confident, inspiring, smooth feel. But they're a little more adaptable, a little quicker edge to edge, a little easier to control, and they're not as fatiguing either

 They're responsive, they have a performance oriented feel, but they're not too demanding. They aren't as tiring, they're not as fatiguing, as heavier skis, and they also both happen to be really, really fun in the moguls because of their shape, construction, and just overall responsiveness and quickness. Great ski. Very, very versatile all-mountain ski, maybe not the best in soft snow conditions at just 84 underfoot, but the shape will allow you to play around in some softer snow in some variable conditions

 Welcome to our 2022 ski test. Right here we've got the Salomon Stance 84. There's two new Stance skis for the 22 season, this and the narrower Stance 80. And essentially what Salomon did is they took the overall concept of the Stance 90 and 96 and kind of tweaked it into a slightly more affordable and slightly more approachable version and also a little narrower too at 84 underfoot

 It's definitely going to be aimed at your advanced to expert level skier, somebody who wants precision and performance in a stiff ski. It does take some work to get this thing up on edge because it is stiffer but once you are there it is planted, it is glued to the snow, you will not shake this ski. Tremendous edge hold and a nice bit of energy into the next set of edges when you finish that turn. Lower speeds, less aggressive skiers are probably going to struggle with this ski but somebody who likes to ski fast and aggressive, they're going to love it

 But this doesn't lack any of the guts or the grit of the bigger stance skis. This thing is pure power. It's definitely going to be aimed at your advanced to expert level skier, somebody who wants precision and performance in a stiff ski.  This one has metal underfoot and then carbon in the forebody and through the tail. So it's a blend of having that dampness and stability underfoot with that metal and then the snap and energy and responsiveness of the carbon in the forebody and back here in the tail. Really it's all about blending that confidence and control in a carve turn with the lighter swing weight and more maneuverability of the lighter tips and tails. It's a really good way of building a ski

 This is a 177. It generates a 16 meter arc. It's definitely happy there. It doesn't really love the 25, 26, 30 meter turns, high speed stuff, but in that mid-range it really just is right at home

 And then we get their TIC frame. So in the Stance 90, 96102, they get the full metal treatment with the carbon flax cutouts. This one has metal underfoot and then carbon in the forebody and through the tail.
