 What's up guys, Rob from Whitelines here and welcome back to another quick fire review

 where I'll be answering some of your questions about this season's new snowboard gear.

 In today's video we're taking a look at K2's brand new all-mountain freeride snowboard, the Excavator.

 Starting us off, what kind of snowboard is the Excavator? Well, this is an all-new

 men's and women's model from K2's lineup this year and is best described as an all-mountain

 freeride charger. Whether you're wanting to go a hell for leather on the groomers first thing in the

 morning, get stuck into deep blower powder or simply cruise the resort and look for hits off

 the catrack and smash wind lips in the side country, it's got you covered on pretty much all bases.

 It's built around a mid-wide directional outline so through the waist the Excavator sits a little

 wider than your average freeride snowboard and this is what gives it so much potential for getting

 those high edge angle carves and for increasing its overall surface area to float in powder. Being

 that bit wider also means you can downsize by around five centimeters from your normal snowboard

 length if you want to. This is something we're seeing more and more from snowboard brands where

 riders want to have boards that perform really well in freeride conditions but don't have such

 a cumbersome length that can sometimes make them feel a little bit unwieldy. It also makes it ideal

 for slightly larger footed riders. Of course you can probably also see that it features a pretty

 directional outline so there's about 20 millimeters of taper running through the board as well as a

 setback stance and this cutout in the tail here. Now that doesn't mean switch is out of the question

 there's still quite a bit of board back behind the rear inserts but it's definitely going to feel at

 its best in your preferred direction. And that's also thanks to the directional camber profile so

 the camber in between the feet and rocker profile in the nose gives you that best of both performance

 where you'll get a ton of pop and drive underfoot but as soon as you take it into deeper conditions

 the nose rocker is going to lift you right up to the surface and allow you to float without having

 to shift your weight from the center of the board. So the flex rating sits at around a seven out of

 ten but being this directional in its nature means that the flex of the board varies throughout its

 length. The core is made with K2's Bambuja Pro Layup. Now this is definitely worth explaining

 because it gives the board so much of its character. It's the top shelf offering from K2 and features

 a combination of bamboo, aspen and polonia configured strategically throughout. The bamboo

 and aspen are placed at 30 degrees underfoot to supercharge the edge to edge response and increase

 the pressure distribution along the edge. Then there's the lightweight polonia placed in the

 tip and in the tail to help reduce that swing weight and finally bamboo stringers run for the

 full length to give you plenty of lightweight snap stability and dampening. And then throughout

 the core is sandwiched between more torsionally forgiving biaxial fiberglass layers with vertical

 carbon stringers running through the center from tip to tail which liven up the board's pop and

 give it some rigidity throughout its length. That doesn't compromise the more forgiving edge to edge

 feel though thanks to those softer laminates but it progressively stiffens up towards the tail. So

 back here you get two carbon power forks as they're known and they run from the rear insert pack back

 towards the contact points. So the more you work the back end of the board the more it responds and

 snaps back giving you this incredibly powerful and dynamic feel at the end of your turns,

 not to mention some pretty serious ollieing firepower. And what about the base? Well no expense

 spared here K2 have decked the Excavator out with their carbon infused sintered base. Wherever you

 point this thing expect it to go pretty damn fast. So the big question who is it for and who should

 buy this board? Well if you remember last season K2 released the Alchemist snowboard which we awarded
