That the Jinhao X450, however cheap it may be, is not worth it if you think you are going to write with it a lot for more than 6 months. The snap cap loosens up really quickly, the grip paint peels off, it can hurt your middle finger when the pen rests on it, and the gold plated trims damage very easily. I would tell you to go with a Jinhao 159 because i have seen that it has a screw on cap, but i have not tried this last pen, so i can't say anything about it.

What's your unpopular fountain pen opinion?

I know this is fountain pen forum, but I'll also say, the disposable rollerball and gel pens today are, in my opinion, even better than the expensive fountain pens. Pentel Energel is amazing, and Uniball Jetstream is a "do everything" pen that never fails. They are affordable and a lot less fuss, mess, and expense than multi-hundred dollar fountain pens.

 A great FP for like $3. Today, there is absolutely no need to be spending big bucks on fountain pens.

I am still new to fountain pen world and already looking for a local fountain pen anonymous chapter! 
All the pens I have are below $30 and they all write very well. I would like to understand what is the difference between an expensive pen like Sailor or lamy 2000 and pilot metropolitan or twsbi swipe? I am not able to think of any difference in mechanics. So what is the differentiating factor?

What is the difference between an expensive and a $20 pen?

 It's a large, solid pen, that feels comfortable in my (average-sized) hand. The Medium nib, two-toned gold/silver, writes smoothly and without hesitation or scratching.  By American standards, the prices for Jinhao pens are startlingly low-- they cost less than disposable plastic-bodied fountain pens. Get yours before Jinhao figures out how much they could actually sell them for!  Recommended

Attractive, good heft, smooth-writing nib...

 This may be in part because of the three flat spots on the grip which tend to steer the pen into position on the paper. They're very well done, and if this is the case, it works for me. This is a heavy pen. I have big hands so it doesn't bother me, but if you like a light pen, this is not for you

Very good pen, excellent deal - write on!

 You start writing then after a few words you can see the ink shimmering on paper. put the cap on and try writing again 20min later and once you pull the cap off drops of ink go all over everything! I should send Jinhao the cleaning bill, this one went directly in the trash. I had much better luck with my hero 359  ****Update: i got some ink and used the included converter and the pen stopped leaking. I believe the cartridges i used are not the correct ones (i have heard there are (2) different international cartridge sizes, even though the one i used seemed to fit)

 They are well-made and very sturdy pens. Unposted, I can write all day with these pens. They are comfy to hold and perform well. In general, I find that Jinhaos are high value pens

For reference, I also have a Pilot metropolitan, which I also loved until it started leaking after a few weeks, and a Lamy Safari which is an awesome pen, but it just feels a bit light for me.

Elite - this name is a monument. Probably, the most famous one is "Elite S". In around 1970, "Elite S" became very popular with the TV commercial. "Happa Fumi Fumi"... this marvelous word is it. Of course, function based on the concept is wonderful. "Elite 95s" is inherited the gene. 

Features - "make sense" 
The most common feature is the length. Almost all, this series are short. The length is controllable - this thought is very reasonable. When you don't use, it is pocketable. For this purpose, this pen adapt "spigot joint" mechanism. Not need to turn, also not sound. And the shape is excellent. Especially the streamline shape of nib is very cool. This beautiful streamline - it's like the future vehicle. This black body with gold accent remind limousine. Exclusive driver is you. Of course, the space you stop is problem. Please continue to run, run, run (When you write, length@is long...very, very).

14K, streamline. Streamline shape is very beautiful. Of course, there is not only beauty but also usefulness. The moderate hardness can endure long time writing. And moderate softness tell characteristic repulsion. Good balance. 
Converter is sold separately. Suitable is "CON-20 " / products of PILOT.

 It’s a very classy and elegant looking pen. The fine nib writes beautifully and the capping mechanism is simply sublime. I bought it through Amazon for less than $100, which, for a 14k gold nib with a very unique looking pen, is a bargain in my mind.

Depending on where you buy this pen, it may or may not come with a CON-40 cartridge converter. This particular purchase did not come with a cartridge converter, but with a Pilot branded black ink cartridge. This wasn't a problem since I have a few CON-40 converters handy. But if you do use a CON-40, there is a downside to it: because the CON-40 is so small

NPD - Pilot Elite 95s (f) - Burgundy/Ivory (aka “deep red”)

 Lastly I did not feel confident enough in the caps retention to have it in my pocket. I’m sure it works well in other uses, but I bought it to be a pocket pen.

Next level (under $100) - Pilot Elite 95s - I have both F and EF - superb in every way. Moderate (under $150) - Pilot Custom Heritage 92 - does everything well. A step up (under $300) - Pilot Custom 823 - great nib, the filling system, hard to beat this pen at any price. Pricey (up to $700 or so) - Pelikan Souverän M1000 Green - beautiful pen, fabulous nib

 There’s a small bit of feedback, but overall this is one of the smoothest fines in my collection. I am in love.

 I never post my pen caps. This pen is very compact and will easily fit into vest pockets or shirt pockets. It is very fine quality and very lightweight. It is one of the silkiest writing pens I have used and rivals pens costing almost a grand
