I found a perfect EQ for these headphones which bring up the bass and the Ifi Zen Can's magic Xbass bring a kick of added bass that does not distort. The HD800S are a big step up from the HD700, the soundstage is wider and the resolution is like an 8K TV compared to the others and live performances sound like the band is playing in front of you.

2 Years into the best hobby one could have

I’m using them with an ifi hip dac and in my total noob opinion it’s a good match. The hip is supposed to be slightly warm and the bass boost creates a good synergy with the dt1990. Let me know what you get!

I finally pulled the trigger and got myself the 1990‘s. I can‘t describe how happy I am with my purchase, I had Shure SE215‘s and AirPods Pro before but this is a huge step up. I was a bit worried about the treble but I don‘t mind it at all. At the moment I am using it with a Focusrite Forte on my PC but I am searching for a DAC and AMP just for listening to music. If you have any recommendations I would be very happy to hear them. I did look at the SMSL SP200 or the Lake People G103, does anyone have some experience with those AMP‘s? I didn’t search for DAC’s that much yet. I will mostly play music over my iPad via USB.

As those are my first „real“ headphones I can‘t really comapre them to a lot of other things. They are awesome for gaming tho, I could locate steps extremly well.

Nice choice! I went from Sundara to DT 1990 Pro. So far I really am enjoying them. They're definitely a great all rounder headphone, whereas the Sundara now are very neutral that I don't know if I can go back to them. I haven't tried the analytical pads yet, but also hear the Dekoni pads are good. Maybe I'll check those out later down the road.

So after watching DMS, Z Reviews and Joshua Valour, my final decision was DT 1990 Pro. Never regret the decision. Also before that, I had to buy an DAC and AMP, so just for an easy and quick solution, I went with Fiio K5 PRO. But this is going to be replaced with an much better AMP and DAC Stack later. I'm also looking to expand my headphone collection later on.

My first pair of headphones - The Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro

the people at the store recommend the Hip-Dac as the best option or money, being supposedly the best for a price range under 500 AUD. I ask about the E10K they had planned to show me, they discuss to spend the money and that all others wouldn't be worth it comparing to Hip-Dac. I spend the money. I leave with a Hip-Dac

 I guess I have two suggestions, let me Bluetooth and use this while it's charging if I could do that I'd give this HipDac a 5 it's that good. I almost bought the Zen Dac instead because I wanted to use it mostly plugged in but I couldn't use it on the go so I went with the HipDac. Great product

 I would also suggest putting a Bluetooth connection on this HipDac as long as you can maintain the wonderful sound quality. I use this product mostly at night laying in bed, it would be awesome to use this without a USB connection as it just makes it bulky and cumbersome. I guess I have two suggestions, let me Bluetooth and use this while it's charging if I could do that I'd give this HipDac a 5 it's that good. I almost bought the Zen Dac instead because I wanted to use it mostly plugged in but I couldn't use it on the go so I went with the HipDac

I love the sound quality, I use this dac with Massdrop Sennheiser X-58 headphones, they sound amazing with the HipDac. I actually have one complaint and one suggestion, the complaint has to do with the battery and the lack of a power supply. I know it sounds like two complaints but it's really tied together. If you're charging the battery you should be able to use the HipDac while you're charging it, by either having another usb-c connection for charging and one for connecting another component; phone, computer etc

I'm not looking for reference or clinical listening on the go, or even for basic work/desktop audio, and the Hip Dac just does that so much better than the BTR5...better than most Fiio applications to be honest

I've been using a Schitt Magni 2 (big, heavy) and an LG V30 as the DAC, but all that's becoming a pain to travel with. I'm already traveling with 2 laptops, 3 phones and an iPad. I need to consolidate!

I worry that the SQ will suffer on the BTR5 with all the tech they're cramming in there at such a low price, but it is really an intriguing little fella.

Trying to find an honest comparison of the BTR5 and Hip-DAC sound quality. I'll be using it when I travel with my HD6XX.

It's extremely comfortable and malleable. Also, I use the stock foam tips that came in the box and have felt no need to tip roll. Some caveats: My Oracles are driven by my iFi Hip-Dac and my iFi Zen Dac on the 4.4mm balanced out

I have been long searching for an upgrade to the Starfields.  
I tried a lot of sub 100$ IEM, and nothing was actually worth it (for me), except for maybe the blon BL-03.  
The Starfields have the perfect tuning for me, and after nearly 2 years of use, i decided that i want to go higher-end on the same Tuning, but with stronger technical performance.  


I have considered a lot of IEM:  
Blessing 2: Dusk (Not high-end enough?)  
Moondrop Variations (Mids too thin)  
EJ07M (Too Dark),  
Monarch (I surely wont like the tuning)  
XENNS UP (not well reviewed yet)  
and more...  


but i narrowed it down to either the Oracle, or the Clairvoyance.  


Now, these two are compared quite a lot, but i have yet to hear the opinion of someone who does not regularily review and receive 1000$ + IEM, but has a realistic look on value and performance.  


Unfortunately, there is no chance to listen to any of these without doing a one time blind-buy, and as i am in germany, used is also not an option.  


Any comparison, even to those mentioned above would be highly appreciated!

<p>In short: very natural, way stronger technicality, but its just not for me.</p>

<p>Review after around a month of use:
The Oracles have a VERY natural and clear sound. However, it really lacks the warmth and intimacy i loved about the Starfields.
I thought the &#39;wispy&#39; treble of EST Drivers would just be some nitpicking by High-End-Reviewers, but its quite audible sometimes.</p>

<p>To start with the good: Those who like very natural sound, clear sound with strong Separation, Detail and a pretty respectable Soundstage, prefer a less warm sound without wanting male voices or guitars sound cold and distant, this is your IEM.</p>

<p>However, while having impressive Detail and a very natural sound, its just not touching. Music is playing and i think to myself &quot;Yeah thats a pretty good sound, but it&#39;s just boring&quot;.</p>

<p>They have very nice, fast and punchy Bass, without being bloated at all.
The mids are very clear, and are just a touch too thin for my taste.</p>

<p>The Treble presents itself as very detailed, smooth and natural, but it&#39;s too sharp for me, weirdly sibilant and piercing without having the authority to rectify such behaviour.</p>

<p>It is very hard to describe, but i feel like they just pumped up the Treble, to somehow equal out the lack of authority the EST-Drivers bring with them.</p>

<p>Compared to the Starfield, they have much better clarity and extension, but the way it&#39;s done is just not enjoyable for me.</p>

<p>For reference you should know, that i am a bit sensitive to treble around 4k and 12k.</p>

<p>The Timbre is very natural, no coloring or warmth added at all.
The Starfields were way heavier in that, but the Oracles do a great job of being more natural and less warm, yet preserving accurate timbre, wich gives the sound a sense of realness and makes them a bit less analytical.</p>

<p>Alltogether, the Oracles are pretty good IEM. They are technically way above the Starfields, but i personally do not enjoy their implementation of tuning, and that kind of ruins it for me..</p>

<p>I will probably sell them and try the Shouer EJ07M instead, as I think their darker sound will suit me better.</p>

Thieaudio Oracle vs Clairvoyance (Starfields Upgrade)

. So, there's that. But considering how little runtime it lasts, I should hope it can charge quickly.  I won't mince words here - the device sounds outstanding for the most part and is a reasonable value, but I do NOT consider this a portable device

 You can connect the power connection to a second USB port on your laptop (this won't work for a mobile device since they obviously only have one port and run on battery themselves) but it will not supply enough power to sustain the Hip Dac indefinitely. In my experience doing this slows the drain but it *will* eventually drain and need to be connected to 5v higher amperage power adapter at some point.  Part 2.

 Does it sound as good???? Honestly, almost.. very nearly as good. But the total package is half the size/weight of the Hip Dac and can run, literally, double/triple/quadruple the time

 My runtimes have been 5 hours at the most and sometimes as little as 3 hours. This is unfortunately also simply "standby" time as I've more recently noticed that simply having the unit turned on (I can't say whether it will do this if *disconnected* while turned on) and connected to my laptop, just sitting there not playing audio, it last not half a day (4 hours at most). That runtime is, like I said, abysmal and especially given the initial claims. The only good news here is that it can go from a flat battery to full charge in under 3 hours (closer to 2 hours in my experience with a 5v 1

Sound Quality Fantastic - Battery Life Awful

 Tried resetting the phone, but same result. Works great with my laptop and for that reason I will keep it.  Update: On OnePlus (or Android) you have to turn on OTG in settings. Works fine after this and should be added to the manual

 Outside of that it's a good clean sound but nothing really stands out.  Outstanding build quality and is the perfect size. The cables seem to be generic from a supplier because it can be a little wonky when connecting to a PC. I'm a little mixed with the phone cable because it's nice and short for storage but too short to really do anything with when it's all connected

May not work with your phone

 They had me turn off sound for key clicks on my iPhone. This helped as the issue doesn’t happen now. Ifi spent a lot of time helping me with this issue. It did take a couple weeks but they really cared and were extremely concerned with finding a fix and making me a happy customer
