Convenience is just middling, though, in part because of a large and heavy tank that tends to spill when moved. It’s also on the noisy side. Pluses: The Honeywell HEV685W automatically shuts off when empty, and it has an empty-tank indicator. But the unit lacks a humidistat, so you’ll need to buy a simple hygrometer, around $10, to monitor your room’s humidity level.

 Wow, this unit is so much quieter than what it replaced. While we personally like the white noise, this unit is super quiet and I would recommend on that aspect if that's your thing. Humidity and controls. I will update the post after a full month of usage but so far this is putting out a ton of humidity and I estimate a full 3 gallons in under 24 hours which is great for our home's needs

Definite upgrade from 6009 but could be better

 Tried contact Honeywell about getting it repaired but website only has run-around prerecorded options that don’t apply with no other help. I don’t know the other 3 are working well and very happy with them but if it breaks - it’s done. I recommend you purchase the washable/reusable humidifier wicks otherwise you’ll go broke buying the brand name paper ones. I have to wash wicks every 3 weeks to keep them working well

Excellent Humidifier but Little Hope for Repairs If Breaks

 This is a crazy fix to even try! But whoever designed a HUMIDIFIER in which substantial surfaces cannot be reached for wiping and cannot be cleaned with "dusting" might be even crazier.

 The manufacturer advised that the non-removable grate was designed that way for "safety" reasons, but the result is a serious danger to the health of our family from running a dirty or moldy humidifier. At the moment, I'm considering putting waterproof tape over the dials, then turning the housing upside down and soaking it, grate downward, in vinegar solution 3 or 4" deep, i.e. not reaching the actual mortar

Impossible to clean thoroughly

I bought this exact model in the beginning of 2020 and was happy with it, but it wasn't enough for the space I used it in, and if you have hard water like I do, the filters become expensive, even in bulk if you can get them. I bought a second humidifier in the fall of 2020, but they changed the plastic for the tanks. The first one has clear blue plastic, easy to see through and easy to handle. The newer one has pale gray opaque textured plastic tanks which makes it much harder to see where the water level is while top filling because it is the same color as the water and harder to see through

 I also found this plastic to be slimy when wet. Overall, the humidifier works well as described, they are easy to carry when empty, and is reasonably quiet. But, it blows cold air (as it is a cool mist humidifier) and more than one lowers the temp of the room, causing me to boost the heat. And, the whole filter system is labor intensive, having to take the machine apart each time to rotate a wet filter or re-wet the filter if it gets dry

 I have no problem refilling from the sink and bringing over to my bedroom everyday. The tanks feel thick and sturdy.  I plan on purchasing another one for the living room downstairs. If you are really looking to improve humidity without a high price tag I would recommend this product

It misleading how little improvement the cool mist humidifiers work.  **Tip** Make sure you fully connect those floating paddles

 I have tried maybe 3-4 different "cool mist" humidifiers and I can say that in my masters bedroom a cool mist humidifier may increase the humidity from 18% to about 20-21% with the Heater/AC off. With the Heater/AC on I may get to 20% on a good day/night. Just using this product I was able to go from 18% to about 30-40% with heater/AC off. With heater/AC on I went from 18% to about 29-31%

Don't let the negative reviews fool you

 I like the ultrasonic models if I have a source of reverse osmosis water because without it, you can get white calcium dust generated by the humidifier. But ultrasonic models are very quiet compared to fan assisted style. Once you have determined that you want to go with the fan route, this is a decent choice as it has a high capacity to rapidly add moisture to the house. I'm impressed that it can use more than one gallon of water a day at low speed

 The high and medium speeds a a tad noisy and why I knocked one star off the overall rating. The wicking filters need to be changed on a regular basis and is not a big deal.

Adds humidity to the whole house fairly rapidly

 This unit can add humidity very quickly. The water capacity reservoirs are large enough where I only need to add water once or twice a week. Each reservoir comes with an inside grab handle, for quick transport. It is also super easy to replace the wick media, which I have once

Easily handles my 1800 Sq Ft house

 With the issues happening as frequently as this it is basically a manual unit that requires constant attention to be able to work without needing a lot of cleanup. You would think a company as large as Honeywell would make a better product. I’m now looking for a better humidifier and it will not be manufactured by Honeywell

 Update, three months in: I wouldn’t buy it again. The issues with overflowing are becoming more frequent and the issues with it not switching to the second tank when empty happen almost everyday, but with no consistency. With the issues happening as frequently as this it is basically a manual unit that requires constant attention to be able to work without needing a lot of cleanup.  Starting with the positives, the wick works great, the unit on low is very quiet, you can’t hear the unit running from 10 feet away and on high is only marginally louder but the hum carries through the house at night when there is no other noises. Great concept with top fill, makes it easier to fill, just set the tank in the sink and fill, the short legs keep it upright. We also occasionally top off the tanks by adding to them without removing them. Now the not so good stuff: We have had a malfunction of a tank valve and it emptied the entire tank causing the unit to overflow and we ended up with water dripping from the rafters in the basement

Great top fill concept, but that is all, I don’t recommend buying one of these.

 One thing is that you can track your humidity over time, with a week of history. It's kind of interesting to see that doing a ton of cooking (especially with gas) raised the humidity even a short distance to the bedroom. An additional app change is that they added "Smart Scenes". This functionality can work as a kind of workaround for the wide humidity range offered in "Auto" mode

 I appreciate the opening on the water tank, which does in fact let me fit my hand inside. However, there are fins of plastic on the inside that are hard to clean around. There's also a tube that runs down the inside of the tank with tight clearance between the tube and the side wall. I squeeze a sponge in between there and hope I get it good enough

 My unit consistently reads much higher than two other humidity sensors I have. For example right now it reads 65% when the other sensors report 50% and 51% (in two connected rooms). Sometimes it's closer to being only 10% off.  Second, the hysteresis (amount of overshoot/undershoot from your selected humidity) is +/- 3%

 There's also a tube that runs down the inside of the tank with tight clearance between the tube and the side wall. I squeeze a sponge in between there and hope I get it good enough. The outside of the tank has a piece towards the bottom that detaches, but it's also got a lot of small spaces that are harder to get to. The base isn't so bad to clean, although it's easy to splash water into the humidity sensor while you're at it

Bad sensor & limited auto controls

 Mild annoyance. Can be avoided by being mindful of it, which I suppose is a trait I lack in this particular case.  I bought these humidifiers on sale, and they have held up very well. I don't think I will purchase again in the future, though, as I'm sick of cleaning the dang things

 They run for about 16ish hours on high and can sufficiently humidify a large room.  It's important to remember that this unit doesn't have a filter, so it grows mold and gets slimy VERY quickly. I recommend rinsing out the reservoir AND the base once a day with hot water and clean with diluted bleach spray at least once a week. It comes with a handy brush to get into the little nooks

 Don't make the same mistake I did and neglect cleaning it regularly - you WILL get ill. Also don't let water sit in it when it's not in use.  Also worth noting - It doesn't leak but sometimes, depending on the air circulation in the room, some of the mist will float down onto the surface I have the humidifier sitting on. I keep the humidifier on a tray and lay the tray on a small towel to prevent my dresser from being damaged from moisture

  I bought these humidifiers on sale, and they have held up very well. I don't think I will purchase again in the future, though, as I'm sick of cleaning the dang things. They really do get slimy fast. So next time I'll opt for one that has a filter

2 years of use - not too bad

 I filled the water tank and placed it to work on the Low mist setting ONLY. The tank was empty after exactly 27 hours. Yes, it worked great, very quiet, and efficient for 27 nonstop hours! So, 40? Not in this world, no matter what you do to it. Of course, it will work even less on the Medium and the High settings, but I went with the Low only
