 The bass is punchy and has a good thump in the sub bass but not overpowering as it is clean and crisp. Separation of instruments and vocals is also done well.

It really shines in the treble and the upper mids while not being overly bright at all and harsh like my previously owned MSR7 (too an extent the HE4XX also). The mids are slightly recessed but still feel very detailed and clean. The bass is punchy and has a good thump in the sub bass but not overpowering as it is clean and crisp. Separation of instruments and vocals is also done well

Honestly, this way you may save a lot more money than if you slowly bought and sold your way up the price ranges like I did. I have the Utopia and a loaner SR009, I've owned SR007 and LCD4. Your Clear Pro is as good as any of them. I'd say EQ them to taste and only upgrade if you extensively compare them to another flagship at home (at least for a week) and find the other headphone to be superior for your tastes. Also don't trust any reviewer. We all hear differently and like different presentations so only your ears know what you like. Enjoy!

Do yourself a favor enjoy your headphones. As tempting as it is to try more headphones, it eventually becomes an obsession rather than a hobby haha. The Clears are great.

I have the exact same pair. It, paired with an iFi Micro iDsD BL is where I hit end game, and stopped. Just an amazing headphone, they blow me away every time I use them.

Jumping straight into end game (Impressions of Focal Clear Pro)

I have age related hearing loss so need headphones to appreciate music from the TV and to better understand the dialogue. I bought these to replace pair of Gardo SR225e’s that failed where wires connected. The Gardo headphones were excellent in sound reproduction, but they hurt my ears, and the wires came loose after five years. The Hifiman 400I headphones are very comfortable

 I do not get tired of having them on my head for two hours at a time. I am very disappointed in the sound quality that comes out of them. The music seems just dead, and I miss much of the dialogue. Sent the Gardo back for repair, and now use them when ever there is music to be appreciated or speech is hard to understand

The HE-400i seems to be ease to drive - it sounded 90% the same under different amps -- INCLUDING my HTC M9 phone!  Now this really sounds like a winner - close to 90% (well, may be 85%) of what I like from the HD 650 and Lambda Pro with just my phone as music player!  HOWEVER, I was bothered by a "glassy sheen" to the sound -- the "rosin" sound of a violin was just too prominent

I also purchased the carrying case and 4 headphone amps from them. Never again will I purchase or recommend any product from this company.  Want a quality product? Buy Beyer, Sennheiser, Audeze, etc and do a search for quality control issues BEFORE buying

  Is it possible to buy just the headband for the HE-560 (or HE-400i; should be the same, yes?)? The plastic yoke on mine snapped and is currently held together with Super glue and electrical tape. I'm not confident that solution will hold up over time.  If I can buy just the headband, how much is it? I've read in the past that they were $50.  Thanks

BUYER BEWARE  Quality and service are horrible.

This review is for the HIFIMAN HE-400I Headphones. (Purchased from ProjectorSupercenter through Amazon.com.)  Product Box:  The product box is a very nicely designed, very nicely constructed presentation style box

There seems to be some quality control issues with these headphones.

  Received my third pair which came in the same plain box as the first pair. The inspection date was also the same as the first pair. Verdict! All the harshness is gone with even slightly cleaner sound and a pinch more presence. My conclusion is that they may have made some slight improvements to the phones when the price was reduced

 Hence it was the second pair that was the anomaly. Was worth all the aggravation because of the sonic superiority vs other products at comparable prices. Finally, i never noticed significant changes to the sound after the breaking in period. If they sounded harsh upon arrival they will still sound harsh after 150 hrs of usage

 Keeping my fingers crossed. If this third pair sounds similiar to the second pair with the harsh high end i will then definately buy a tube Amp and maybe change the ear pads to smooth out those highs. Im of course assuming they work properly in every other respect.  UPDATE 3/10

This is a replacement of my previous purchase of the same product. The sound is very harsh and overly bright when compared to my first purchase. The first was returned because of bad connection and cracked gimble that holds the ear cup in place. The sound on the first purchase was fantastic

 Didn't bump anything, didn't mishandle in any way, just came undone. They advertise a 1-year warranty but if you go to hifiman.com/services their listed customer service number forwards to a different phone's voicemail after 5 rings. Very disappointed with HI-FI man

These are the best sounding headphones I've ever had, upgraded from Logitech Artemis and the difference was night and day in clarity. Modern games, especially ID and 2k games are so much more immersive with these on.  Unfortunately, these have a habit of falling apart. The padding on the left ear suddenly almost completely became unadhered to the speaker at 11 months of use

Fragile

  The first problem I had with these headphones was the where the headband connect to the cups (if you look around this isn't a uncommon failure), a cracked formed on the plastic connection and ended up nearly splitting the part in two after about 3 months; luckily I when I contacted support about this they were fairly quick to send over a replacement part that was easy to install and has held up for over a year.  The second problem was the ear pads started to com unglued from their ring after about 6 months of ownership, and while I was able to find brainwave pads that fit well on the ring, actually getting the ring to snap back onto the headphones was a massive pain-the-butt, which honestly made this the most frustrating failure on these headphones!  The third and last problem the cable, after about a year it started cutting out in the left ear, but this was easy to solve due to the fact the cables are removable on these cans.  Now I will say what I love about these headphones, and it is their amazing sound for the price, I got these as an upgrade from my Sennheiser HD558 and after getting these I can see why people desire "planar sound" so much, if I had to describe them in one word it would be CLEAR! I found them to have a similar mid bump to that of Sennheiser, which I enjoyed so I was happy to receive that, the highs are nice and crisp, vocals are clear, and the bass in deep and tight, instrument separation is also very good, also the sound stage is nice and large.  Summary, if you aren't scared off by the idea of needing to fix/replace things like band, pads and cables as time goes by, these are fantastic headphones for the price, but if you are you might want to look elsewhere
