It helps take away the difficulty/learning curve of having to find and keep your angle with a DE razor (especially on something like your head), but if you were interested in using a DE, you could take a look at the Henson AL13. It has the angle "built in" and is on the milder-side so it will be harder to cut and nick yourself.

Want to switch to a safety razor, for head and face shave

I have never wanted to found or join a cult devoted to a commercial product such as I have with the Henson AL13 😂. I didn’t stick with cartridge razors for 30+ years because I wanted my shave to be a skill based exercise. Henson used better engineering to create a razor that gives the benefits of double edged safety razors combined with the idiot proof use of cartridge razors. It’s the equivalent of an automatic versus a manual transmission, and it changed my relationship to shaving

Thoughts on Henson Razors?

I just got my Henson AL13 and shaved with it for the first time. I can't overstate how much happier I am with it compared to my first DE razor, an Edwin Jagger (don't know the model number). I had the EJ for 5 years now, sampled many blades, but even the best ones (Astra SP, Feather and some no-name of a local supermarket that is too far away to shop in regularly) left me a little stubbly and a little bloody. The Henson with an Astra was way better: not quite BBS, but closer to it than I ever was with the EJ and absolutely no blood

 I would stick with a milder razor and try to address your needs with the blade; right now, the Henson mild with the RK blade is the best I’ve tried, as it’s easy to use and efficient. Your main issue, though, is your lather.

My experience is very limited, but I got addicted quickly to this hobby and have done a ton of research. I would upgrade the razor to at least a Maggard or WCS, though you could go straight to a WSC Winning, Muhle R89, or even a Henson AL13. I (17M) am blessed with tremendously thick, dark, and VERY fast growing facial hair. 

I would be a huge fan of this, but facial hair does NOT fit with me or my style (picture a stereotypical, fluffy haired, high school teenage boy), and for the last 9 months I have been struggling to keep up with my fight to remain baby-faced.

My facial hair is very patchy. My sideburns, upper lip, and chin grow very thick, but my middle cheeks, jaw, and sides of my chin grow VERY thin. My facial hair does not grow evenly, either, and if I don’t shave, I end up looking pretty skrunkly.

To combat this, I have resorted to shaving daily. Understand that I am experiencing the later stages of puberty, and that my facial hair grows at a VERY FAST pace. If I miss even ONE (1) day of shaving I will get comments like “hey dude you’re looking a little scruffy” or “when’s the last time you shaved?”. This is NOT my goal.

About 9 months ago I came across this sub and ended up purchasing a safety razor and a brush from target. Things have been going well for the most part, until I started running into some pretty major issues. 

I will usually grow out my facial hair over the weekend to achieve a very close shave the following Monday (the longer the hairs, the easier it is to get a closer shave, right?). 

However, Tuesday morning I’ll have stubble that is dark and thick enough to be visible, but *just* not long enough to shave without usually nicking myself. To avoid nicking myself, sometimes I won’t shave, my hair will then grow over the course of that day, and by 5th period im looking scruffy again. NOT BABY FACED.

MY QUESTION TO YOU:

What can I change about my shaving hardware (?) or technique in order to achieve a very close shave *every* single morning? Would investing in better blades, a better razor, or real cream make that much of a difference? Is there anything i’m doing wrong?

Gear:
- Standard, generic safety razor 
- Van Der Hagen stainless steel blades
- Gillette sensitive canned shaving cream
- Standard, generic shaving brush
- Bowl

Routine: 
1: Spray less than a handful of cream into a small bowl
2: whip until light in consistency
3: scrub/massage warm water onto stubble
4: apply shaving cream with brush
5: starting at the right cheek/chin, shave at 30-35°, one pass with the grain, two passes against
6: repeat for chin, jaw, neck
7: apply cream gently to upper lip
8: shave two passes with the grain, one pass against, (near the center lip bridge) and one pass “away” (outer upper lip)
9: repeat for other side of upper lip


TL,DR: I have thick, dark, fast growing facial hair. I want it to look like i have zero facial hair ever. However, it’s hard to get a really close shave for stubble without cutting myself. Is there anything I can change in my shaving routine or technique to achieve a perfectly close shave every day without having to intentionally grow out my facial hair in order to do so? How do I shave STUBBLE very closely without cutting myself?

Mühle Companion Unisex Razor Shave and Review 4K

 What I did not count on was taking a 1/4 chunk of skin off the back of my head. I used my electric razor on my head for the next 10 days giving it a chance to heal before making another attempt. The second head shave went better but not great I have yet to get a nick free shave but I'm not giving up just yet. So far I can't say the quality shave is any better than what I was getting with a cartridge razor

 I started with the Trac II and used various cartridge razors since. About 20 years ago I started shaving my head.

Since receiving the razor I have shaved my face four times and my head twice. The first shave I anticipated getting a couple of nicks/ cuts due to inexperience. Over the past couple of months I've been looking into "wet shaving" using a DE safety razor. When I read the description about MÜHLE Companion being designed for entry level as well as being suitable for head and body shaving I finally pulled the trigger.

 The weight is very well balanced and even though she’s only used cartridges before, she really noticed the difference between cartridge and safety razor blade. I believe the weight and far superior blade is what really made a big difference for her. The shave is smooth and oddly quick. Yes you will get nicks but find me an actual razor that doesn’t have that possibility

 She’s never used a DE safety razor and loves her new companion. The handle is great and allows for a comfortable grip when wet; which is also slightly longer than most DE razor handles, especially those us men tend to enjoy. The weight is very well balanced and even though she’s only used cartridges before, she really noticed the difference between cartridge and safety razor blade.  The best feature of this razor, however, is that beefy handle and the fingerprint knurling made it very easy to grip, even when it was soapy. I liked it!!

Fantastic price! It's an efficient smooth razor. If it feels uncomfortable, try to adjust your angles, to find the sweet spot for you. Also, try different blades.
