 I think the Highest Setting on most Slow-Cookers should be above boiling, probably around 230˚ at least, esp. if one expects raw cut-up potatoes to be completely cooked within five hours.  So I would rec'd this KitchenAid model with reservations. Most braising recipes using a traditional porcelain-over-iron braising dish require oven temperatures between 275˚ to 325˚ depending on the recipe, but these recipe's cooking times are mostly listed anywhere from 2 hours to 6 hours. This means I have had to pull this KitchenAid's the porcelain container out of the cooker and put it in a traditional oven heated to 325˚ on some occasions when I needed a higher temp to complete the cooking on some food, usu. for 45 min

A Good Slow-Cooker, but not perfect.

 Chicken cacciatore was way overdone on low for six hours, next time I'll do four. I'm looking forward to pork mojo this week (butt or shoulder) and will do medium for six hours. So, this gets hot enough on low to cook anything safely but your food won't come out tough and dry unless you leave it too long.

Simple, no coating to peel and won't boil your food!

 Crock pots should last longer than 4 years. I have a different brand that I have had for 25 years and it still heats and works properly. Honestly, I would not go with this brand again.

 I "assumed" this would NOT be made in China, but alas; it is. :(  One of the greatest things the fire service has done in the USA since 1947 has been to create a fire prevention system, complete with laws, rules and regulations for the prevention of fires.  It seems to work; but, what's going on inside this appliance with the wiring? Is it safe? Well, I'm really not certain. Time will tell, I suppose. I can say this about that. I don't intend to leave this appliance plugged in and turned on, unattended

 This machine has nice big handles, and you won't drop it, except for when you're old and using this for decades and you break your hip. Then you might, but it won't be this machine's fault. It will be your hip's fault. Now, it is it easy to clean? Yes, yes it is

 Secondly, it has nice big handles to hold onto, and that's nice, because no one wants to drop your big pot roast or 6 quarts of chili, or whatever it is that you've cooked. That'd be terrible, but no worries. This machine has nice big handles, and you won't drop it, except for when you're old and using this for decades and you break your hip. Then you might, but it won't be this machine's fault

 It will be your hip's fault. Now, it is it easy to clean? Yes, yes it is. Super easy. As easy as lifting the ceramic portion by it's nice big handles and putting it into the sink to wipe it out with some hot water and some dish soap, and wham bam it's in the dish rank to drip dry

This is a pretty good cooker, but it should be for the price. Controls are convenient and easy to use. I love the cord keeper on the bottom side and love the 6 qt size. This is definitely a "slow" cooker - the low setting seems to hover around 145 degrees

I purchased this recently, as I saw a great review on it, and I wanted a programmable, 6-quart cooker to add to my collection. Besides being very easy to use the programmable option, this is a true slow cooker. Modern day cookers tend to run very hot and boil the food to oblivion. In fact, it is so similar to the vintage cookers, it might take some practice for those that are used to seeing their all-day cookers turn their food into a dried-up glob. This holds a lot of food, so it's perfect for larger recipes that you can freeze for later

 I love it! The only negative comment I have is that the insert is quite heavy. I use a bag/liner to keep washing at a minimum for easier handling.
