My biggest gripe, and it’s big, is the battery life. My first time taking it out I decided to leave my phone tripod at home to save weight. I ended up having to balance my phone against a dead go pro to capture my camping trip.

I don't know, we might be wrong, but you certainly have plenty of time to capture whatever you're doing, you know, a three hour surf session is a pretty good effort. Yeah, it's enough

 This connects to the camera so you can carry it around and press record and stop. You've got your two buttons, so it's a nice and consistent approach to the functionality of the camera. If you wanted to mount the TomTom onto the front of your surfboard, then all you do is just put this carefully on your finger or somewhere safer. So I suppose compared to some of the newer GoPros and other action cameras that have an LCD preview panel on the back so you can actually see what you've been shooting, this one doesn't

 If you want slow motion, it captures that in 1080p, so that's double speed, so that's 60 frames per second and the quality is just exceptional. Everything from raindrops falling in slow motion to a time lapse of sunset to fish swimming around under the water, we hardly even messed around with the different shooting modes and there are four different scene modes. One is automatic, which we use most of the time, then there's underwater, there's night and bright. For those people who are going to want to not use a full edit suite like we do, for us we're actually using this as a professional piece of kit and it can be, the quality is good enough

 When I go to put it back the next day it is charged up and ready to go. I have yet to run out of battery out on the trails. Video editing is a breeze when you're on the go. There is definitely room for improvement in terms of size and weight, however the bullet design and longer battery life make up for it in most cases

 I picked them out, wiped the dirt off, and mounted put the TomTom on my handlebar mount for the rest of the ride. Later that day I went and purchased a new helmet with less venting so I could use the 3M 360 pitch mount on it. I won't be using the GoPro headstrap anymore, that's for sure.

To connect the camera to the mobile app, you switch on Wi-Fi by pushing up on the four way control panel, then swap to your mobile device and select the Wi-Fi network from the list in the settings. The TomTom Bandit app is a free download from the apple store and an Android version will be available soon.

Video resolution and frame rate is key to capturing the action and the Bandit meets that demand with 4K at 15 frames per second (fps), 2.7k at 30fps, 1080p at 60/30 fps and 720p at 60/120fps, enabling slow motion capture. The Bandit can also shoot time-lapse sequences and capture stills at up to 16 megapixels.

 That means I can show you the insides, there's a reason for doing this. On this camera I've fitted the optional waterproof lens cover. Without it this camera is submersible to one metre underwater and it's fine. With this I think you can go to something like 30 metres, something like that and Gaz will check and the graphic will pop up now to say yes that's right or no it's 50 metres or something
