Google Chromecast with Google TV vs NVIDIA Shield TV Pro

I already liked the WebOS on the LG TV, and was curious to see how this new Chromecast would fare. Well, yesterday was the last day I'll be using it as my go-to device. The Chromecast is insulting; it's supposed to suggest movies and shows based on what you like, NOT on who pays Google the most. I've clicked on the "don't show services I don't use" toggle, but Google doesn't care

It updates automatically it's easy for less tech literate people to use because they don't have to learn how to cast from their phone and of the limit...

So yeah, a little disappointing (as licensing limitations usually are) for the audience/user. Google's marketing of this device/platform as an aggregator of all the streaming services should be much clearer about this limitation. Also to note - the remote itself is slippery and hard to hold on to. Do yourself a favor and get one of the cheap silicone covers to help (sold here on Amazon of course)

Sooooo we left the cube plugged in for me and this for my husband but then when I would hit the home button on the fire cube remote to switch inputs and go to the cube the shield would then overwrite the command and switch back to the shield. It was so annoying. I just unplugged the shield. We haven't even used it in about a month

I recently discovered making a speaker group of my Chromecast on Google home means I can listen to Spotify and watch the slideshow of my dog pictures on the TV.

Nvida can be extremely hard nosed and that last reason is why I left my king of streaming boxes years ago on my older TV when I upgraded. NVidia refused to support Dolby Vision at the time. Now you can have it. Why did I buy this device? I ordered the 2019 Shield TV Pro because the AI-enhanced upscaling that experts are calling the "best they've ever seen

The UI is pretty good and I think it's pretty easy to navigate and find what you need. Overall it's a pretty cheap and decent solution. It gets the job done.

I'm updating my review entirely, I was finally able to get Wolf Launcher to run and MAN is it SO SO SO MUCH better than the stock launcher that's the current update. The stock launcher is OK, it hitches and shows me so much irrelevant content since I only use my Plex server. Wolf Launcher is 10x more responsive and looks much nicer. In order to do so, make sure you find the updated "techdoctorUK" video

Why is the Bluetooth audio on the Chromecast with Google TV so bad. Don’t get me wrong, it’s better than not having any Bluetooth connectivity, but the amount of time I’ve spent reconnecting my AirPods over and over again while my food gets cold is ridiculous. It’s either too loud, too quiet, or the volume doesn’t change with the slider. It is very rarely correct, and when it is it’s after about 5 minutes of tinkering

I have a Sony A80J, Nvidia Shield TV Pro, PS5, Definitive Technology Mythos 4 fronts, Mythos 3 Center, Cube 3 Sub and Pro 1000 Rears 5.1 plus 2 outdoor speakers on A/B switching.

Wish the chrome cast had its own speaker so I didn't need to have the remote to activate Google assistant to find things. Would also extend the range of my Google home. By providing more opportunity to hear verbal commands. 3

My sound stopped working, checked sound settings (turned off surround sound), rebooted, factory reset, but could not get sound back. Tried support forums no one had a permanent fix, and tried chat support but gave up after waiting 30 minutes. Just seems like i should not have these kind of simple problems that require more than 30 minutes of troubleshooting for a premium device. I'd call myself an intermediate user i can fix most simple issues like this

Been waiting for YEARS to be able to stream video on one device and have the audio play on another, can finally do it through Bluetooth. No need for cables across the room anymore. Reason for 4 star is that audio has a minimal stutter every now and then. Might get fixed in an update

I used an Ethernet cable for my original Shield, but with the new one I tried to use WiFi because I didn't want to run another cable. However I soon discovered that every 20 minutes or so my entire WiFi network would go down, disconnecting everything on the network, and then come back up by itself within a minute or so. After searching for the problem on the internet I discovered this has been an ongoing problem beginning with the 2017 model, and unfortunately if it occurs there is no solution other than to use a wired connection, or try to buy a router that might work with it. It appears it happens most frequently with ASUS routers, but it's really dependent upon the chipset a router uses, as well as the local WiFi environment, so others are affected as well
