The Giro Manifest Spherical is our top choice for a mountain bike helmet. This helmet is pretty unique and has everything we've come to expect from a high-end, half-shell helmet. It has a sleek, well-executed design. It uses the MIPS Spherical rotational impact system, which is made up of two separate EPS foam shells connected with elastomers. These foam shells have different densities and are designed to rotate against each other in case of angular impact, much like a ball and socket joint. The interior foam shell extends lower on the back and sides of the head, allowing the helmet to comfortably fit a wide variety of head shapes. Large air vents and interior channels give some of the best ventilation we've seen in a mountain bike helmet, and the interior padding does a great job of absorbing sweat.
We had a hard time finding anything to complain about with the Manifest. We found no issues with performance during testing. It does have a failry high price tag and only an average weight. But, we think the dual-shell design's protection is worth the weight. Even though it's a few grams heavier than some helmets, on the trail the difference isn't noticeable with the secure fit. We're also not very concerned about some added weight for a trail helmet that does it all. The price tag might seem high at first glance, but it's comparable to other high-end mountain bike helmets. And we think this helmet outperforms all the other high-end mountain bike helmets, so the price is justified.

 Except for the Montaro I recently tried that was painful inside. This Manifest is pricey but very comfy, light, and has some nice features. It feels really nice on your head like a padded glove where others, for my dome at least, whereas others I've tried have pressure points and just uncomfortable. I have no complaints with the fit and feel of this nor the quality

 For those of you who aren't familiar with MIPS, it's a brain protection system which helps reduce harmful forces transmitted to your brain if you crash. But it's a different MIPS system in this helmet that I'm used to. The MIPS equipped helmets I've used have a low friction, usually distinctive yellow liner like this one. This manifest spherical helmet uses a more advanced ball and socket MIPS design whereby this outer liner can rotate around the inner liner in the event of a crash

 So you don't have that hard plastic liner against your skin. This is interesting because it's never been an issue for me so I'm interested to see how this feels during a ride. Spherical technology allows the helmet to be constructed with different density foam too, which Giro say can deal with low and high speed impacts more efficiently. There's an impact resistant band too that covers the width of the helmet adding to its overall structural integrity

 What's up everybody welcome back to the unemployed cyclist as you can see I'm still in the middle of a disaster zone from our remodel The good news is that we are at the very tail end of it. We're gonna do a final inspection this week with our general contractor and Then we write him a check and we are done. It has been a major pain in the butt it but we chose a great GC and and everything turned out really well, so I'm currently waiting for a appointment at a Urgent care to get my hip checked out after that crash I had back at the end of July and while I wait for the go-ahead to come in for You know to get checked out and possibly get referred to an x-ray or for an MRI because my hip is still bothering me. I I figured I'd take a break from cleaning and moving stuff out of my workout room slash office to do a couple of Product reviews and an update on a helmet So we're gonna start with a one-year review of my Giro manifest mountain bike helmet If you remember I got this helmet I bought it last year after I crashed out in the Las Virginas open space I hit like a ground squirrel nest that collapsed under my front wheel and I got thrown and the whole front end of my My road helmet got shattered

1 YEAR UPDATE: $350 Bicycle Helmet: Is it worth it? (Giro Manifest Review)

 With the Rock Lock Trail Air Fit System, this thing is super easy to tighten on the back of your head to make sure you got that secure fit. And then also with this magnetic lock system for the strap, this thing is awesome and I feel super bomber when it's on, it does not feel like it's going to come off. So after spending a few days in this helmet, I absolutely love it. It's got great ventilation and for myself, I sweat like a pig

 I would definitely recommend this for any beginner rider to advanced rider that is just looking for something ultra light weight. I definitely give this helmet a good thumbs up and I would definitely purchase this again if I ever had to get a second helmet. We've tested many well-ventilated helmets, but the Specialized Ambush 2 is the best of the best in this category. Specialized claims to have used computational fluid dynamic modeling to optimize the airflow with this helmet's design. This is noticeable immediately when you roll forward, and you'll feel the air moving over your head through the helmet. Even at low speeds, you can feel air moving from your forehead out through the back of this helmet. Also, the MIPS SL rotational impact protection system doesn't require an internal plastic liner. This further enhances the ventilation effect since there's no plastic sheet to block the wind. We had no issues with sweating or excess heat while wearing this, even on long, hot, exposed climbs. But breathability isn't all this has to offer; this was one of the highest-performing mountain bike models in every category. It has some great features, such as a well-designed eyewear holder: two small vent ports on the front of the helmet have rubber flaps to hold your glasses securely. This lets you easily stash your sunglasses beneath the visor with no chance of accidentally dropping them on rough trail sections. The helmet also has a highly-adjustable strap, harness system, and a great, burly visor. 
The visor on the Ambush 2 is not adjustable, however. But, it easily comes off and back on, so it shouldn't break in the event of a crash. The visor's high position on the helmet doesn't provide as much protection from the sun at lower angles, though. The adjustable harness works well to give a secure fit, but the way it connects to the back of the helmet doesn't allow you to position it as low as some models. Regardless of these minor flaws, we feel this is an excellent model with awesome features that beats other brands' flagship models in price.

Specialized Ambush 2 with MIPS is what I use. I’ve seen their helmet testing, it’s legit (as are most other reputable helmet makers). It’s well worth spending the extra money for MIPS or something similar whichever brand you go with.

I’m new to mountain biking and looking for a safe high quality open face bike helmet. I have been looking around into wavecel and Koroyd, are there any other technology out there that is innovative in safety? What helmets do you guys suggest? If I’m going to spend around/over $200 for a helmet I want to make sure it’s as safe as possible.

It's a nice helmet, I went with a different helmet after I had an accident that totaled the helmet. I used a Bell Super 2 and It always gave me a headache, it just didn't fit, I bought another Specialized Ambush soon after. I would recommend you find a helmet that fits your head well and stick with it. Also if you're going to be going fast, I would recommend getting goggles and ear covers

” And when he pulled the helmet out, I failed to hide my dismay and fully agreed with him. In use, I've found the new fixed visor is less functional than the adjustable visor on the previous version for keeping sun out of my eyes—it's not actually visible while I'm wearing it.  On the plus side, the visor is well designed for storing sunglasses or goggles.
